- This is the re-upload of the Lesney No 71 Jeep Gladiator. The old video was corrupt and even this video is not perfect as I could not get rid of all the bugs. However this video only has one small glitch that I am OK with as it happens in a transition. Really sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi all... The other video was broken so I re uploaded this one... however, even it did not make it unscathed as the issue that was corrupting my video files could not be completely removed. I will remove the other video ASAP... Sorry for the inconvenience.
baremetalHW it’s neat you did the Jeep gladiator as they jus revealed the new gladiator the other day
baremetalHW Yah I saw the other video and I thought that my internet connection was bad
Yeah still corruption at 8:48
The corrupted video was not a big problem. In the end it's more important that the restored Jeep looks absolutely fantastic!
STILL COUNTS AS DOUBLE UPLOAD YAY!
I am a 28 year old woman who has never had an interest in Matchbox or Hot Wheels, but I could watch your restoration videos all day. The process is very interesting and I find these videos extremely relaxing. Thanks for restoring this spider house, lol
nice baby
Hey thanks for watching!
I'm in the same situation as you, apart from I'm 30 and male. The videos are a good way to relax omw home from work even though my interest in Matchbox cars is zero. It's great to see such skill and care taken in a hobby and it's presented in such a friendly and informative way. It really sets this channel apart from many other channels.
I’m the same! But older. 😂 I’m a BaremetalHW completist. My friends all think I’m crazy but my son likes watching with me!
Hello - I'm a 39 year old man who still loves his childhood cars, however, I also find these relaxing. What you are experiencing is called ASMR, look it up, there are 1,000s of videos to watch.
You keep mentioning this "Display Case" but we've yet to see it, can we get a video of your collection on display??
Please 😊
Yes please!
Agreed 😍
Yes please!
"Crickets"
7:14 "Or at least that's what I'm going to be telling myself" LMAO - love it, sound like me convincing myself on something. As a UK child of the 80s I love seeing these Lesney cars being renovated, I had so many before they fully moved over to Matchbox.
My uncle worked for Mattel. Got all the new cars before they went to market.
You bring me back 40-50 years...
So many sandbox memories, so many lost cars.
I hate you so much !!!
Thanks man.
Keep torturing me.
I love your work.
And yes, I know it's a Matchbox... 😉
Do you think the spider used to pretend to drive the car?
THEY'RE LEARNING!
No don't be silly! Spiders don't drive Jeep Gladiators, they drive Alfa Romeo Spiders of course : )
Oops! Meant as a reply to 'Ratcliff'.

@Ratcliff: The coffee web is the most whacked out of the lot! People drink that stuff morning, noon and night : ) : ) : )
I just found these videos and I’m hooked! Oddly find them relaxing...👍🏼
Completely agree. Actually, I find them therapeutic. A wonderful release from the non stop bad news these days.
If you have the tools for this, it's really fun
My 4 years old son wanted to watch a matchbox restoration video before going to bed. He doesn´t understand English yet and he was pretty quiet until the cars were next to each other for comparison. Then he said that the other car was more red and the other was more orange. Nothing about the dust on the hood though. 😂 Thanks for the great bedtime stories.
Because of health issues i started building models after a fifty year hiatus. I came across your videos and am totally captivated! Between plastic, wood and metal models life has never seemed better!
"Its not about what tools you buy. But HOW you use them"
Awesome work!
Love your restorations
Your channel is like a little vacation from life. I love these videos. Thank you.
Honestly, it looked like an old field found or barn found clunker before - like, it even wore like you might expect it to, and after, it looked like you'd spent a year lovingly restoring it to take it out on the town. I don't know if it's the detail of the car or what, but it's great and I liked it both ways, but I feel like you really did this restoration a special brand of justice here. Well done!
That's about as close as you can get to factory. Nice work. The blemishes in the paint on the hood are not visible at a quick glance. They could be accounted for at factory anyway, knowing most diecast assembly line mass produced paint jobs. The glass and interior are pretty darn classy.
Cool piece all round and thanks again for the video Sir.
As I commented on your original upload this is a very nice restoration which is my preferred term. I do not agree with the term "forgery" as many of these original pieces are in need of some care to bring them back, and they are still the original casting. A forgery in my opinion are cars made to look like an original with different obvious characteristics. Eg; Body lines may be altered or base stampings are different, etc... I very much look forward to your next project!
Exactly. or parts from a different model car that looks similar, but is sold as original. This is just a restoration. Making it look like it was originally when it came off the factory floor.
Totally agree. When a real 1:1 car is restored I don't hear anyone calling them forgeries.
I would like to think anyone capable of doing a restoration that would fool an expert… Would also have the foresight to be honest.
However I guess the fear is these will eventually get passed on to unsuspecting buyers and sold as originals… But I agree restoration is the right word not forgery.
I recently found a 1977 Matchbox Ford Model A chassis digged in my backyard and I passed cleaning all day and I feel really tired but when I saw what you did I'm really impresed. Good work!
The little fabric fibers on the left rear wheel are what really adds character to the car!
This is one of your best pieces of work. It's just so clean and classic: Red truck with white interior. That spider had good taste.
On the peak of the hood and top of the driver fender
Ten out of ten, Mr Baremetal. Another fascinating video that showcases your skills and passion for the models. Very well done.
Nice model. It was one of my favourites as a boy. Great to see it here, having a makeover.
Turned out great. I picked one of these up for two bucks. Planning to refurb mine in the near future.
Holy cow! I had this one, too. It was part of a small collection of 1960s toys I inherited from my uncles.
nice restoration!
one time I opened up an old hotwheels police car full of live earwigs, never found spiders :)
I had one of these, along with the Lark Wagonaire and Ford Corsair. Some nice memories...wish I still had them. Keep up the good work!
I had one of these as a kid! We didn't play with Matchbox vehicles much, preferring the larger Dinky and Corgi models, but I always liked my Jeep Gladiator! It looked cool to me and with opening doors yet!?!
The texture looks great! Nicely done. Really looks like a clean factory job.
These are wonderful videos to watch. Very therapeutic and really want to have a go at something like this myself, as you make it look rather more accessible than one might imagine. Plus it’s a link to my childhood, while simultaneously being creative.
Very nice restoration.
Big fan of returning to original condition but also love watching your custom jobs. Well done.
Jack
Love the restoration and I love the Jeep Gladiator. I find watching these videos has an almost therapeutic effect as you, and others who also restore/customise, have an obvious love of the cars and the art.
Amazing restoration well done 👍.
Another nice restore. My wife loves Jeeps and I caught her watching this video over my shoulder. Normally she is not interested in this stuff, but you got her attention with this one. lol
I can’t explain why I love your videos do much
Great video and wonderful restoration
You're the master of restoration on CZcams.
I've watched many CZcamsrs and none can get even closer to what you do.
Congrats keep It up Bro !!!
I commented on your original upload. This is another fine restoration. I have a few of these and one has the cab roof missing but the doors are intact!
As someone else has commented, this restoration is not a forgery. It could only be considered a forgery if the model was to be sold as original, mint condition, with the intent to defraud the buyer.
Your restorations recapture the look of the original model in its glory. The care you take with each restoration greatly inspires others.
Thank you.
I love the interior detail plastic piece. This turned out very cool.
A fantastic restoration video as usual. Loved the way you stayed true to the original.
Awesome restoration man. I’m just about done with a matchbox Ferrari 308
Having trouble cleaning up the windshield!
Love watching your vids
😎👍🏽
I have no idea how I stumbled onto your channel quiet some time ago.
But I thoroughly enjoy them and find myself happily viewing what you do.
I have no criticism and no suggestions.
Thank you.
I liked that restoration a lot came out really well! I have a red dodge truck and the color seems to be spot on with the jeep, paint # was PR4 Flame red B9326.
One of my favorite restorations of yours.
Great vid,,, I have learnt so much from this channel,,,living in England lots of Matchbox old stuff much like I guess Hotwheels in the States,,,just restored a Matchbox AMC Javelin did it Metallic green but far too shiny as compared it to some original 70s Matchbox cars,,so I'm working on that,,,this weekend I'm restoring the 72 Boss Mustang though doing it in light Metallic blue,,,also found that if the wheels are rough then paint whole wheel chrome then when dry let some water colour black in wheel trims wipe then when dry lawyer,,as yes even new Matchbox wheels are hard to get here in UK and whilst I luv Real Riders like to keep Matchbox wheels stock,,,, Thanx for a great vid,,,wishing all a great weekend,,,
Most professional matchbox/ hot wheels videos on CZcams. So darn good. Thanks for the outstanding quality. I wish day to day life was handled with such aplomb. Well done!
This is the EXACT truck that was used in the Tremors movie, owned by Earl. Maybe someday you could find another and try and make a miniature replica of their truck, would be pretty awesome!
Gotta be light blue in that case. Good eye and idea!!
Rust.the.man I only connected the dots because of the iconic grill design.
I'm a big Tremors fan lol
Dammit I love that movie that whole series was great
I have the red jeep gladiator too, it’s essentially in the same condition as yours was before the restoration. It also has that metal band that acts as a spring to hold the doors in place.
I think your restorations are very fun to watch. I haven’t ever done car restorations but I do a lot of modeling.
For this one, it really seems to me you painted the paint on very thick and that’s the biggest difference I see between your restoration and the original.
I had this exact truck as a kid, in about the same condition as you found it. It was already vintage then, but I didn't really understand that. I was a bit rough on my toys, and I left it on a dirt pile with a bunch of other older cars. A very large thunder storm rolled in and caused a flash flood which buried all the cars I left out and I was only able to find two. Somewhere out there a toy very similar to this is waiting to be discovered by some archaeologist.
I love these OG Matchbox restos the most. When I was a kid in the late '70s, one of my uncles gave me a bunch of his '60s Matchbox cars, and it was obvious even then that the newer ones weren't as well-made. (My favorite was the Mercedes-Benz ambulance.) I wonder where they ended up. I should have a look around--I had a collector case for them, so if they didn't get thrown out or yard-saled somewhere along the way, they should all be together, somewhere in the family's closet ecosystem. :)
Also, you may be interested to know that the Willys-Kaiser brochure name for that color appears to be "Indian Ceramic No. 2".
I agree any change to the car is a custom not a restoration I love these cars,
They should be restored to manufacturer specification so the last another 50 years
good luck with the rest of your restoration you done a great job on this one👍
I traded one of these for 10 or so Munster bubble gum type trading cards. The cards were extra large (probably 6x4 ) and we were both happy with the deal. I don't miss it as I have two more and several other Matchbox cars I collected during the 1960's. Great video and thank you.
Great restoration. I respect your preference for keeping it factory looking :)
This much better video now. Thanks for the reload video Sir
as the cars were spinning at the end I forgot which one was the original, so good work!
Like I said the first time, great restoration. Hope to see more Lesneys here.
You will! thanks for watching!
Thanks for the videos. I have been finding myself relaxing to them.
Criminy! It is like you ended up with all my Hot wheels & Matchboxes! I have had so many of the restoration toys you have done. The electrolite crap is the scary expensive part of this process although I have wanted a power supply like you use for lighting projects as test supply source. Very interesting & masterful job on something one would think impossible. Bravo!
Those small imperfections are perfect, you made it look very original, fine job
Looks amazing. Colour looks perfect
Love this and all your videos. Keep it up. Amazing work!!!
God why do I like these restorations so much?
I think it's nice to have an original untouched version displayed right next to a restored version to see the differences improvements and even occasionally do a full modification to show a fantasy version.
I caught them. I usually find little things that most people wouldn't notice. I love your work. I say again; I wish I had the funds...
Awesome video. Interesting note about springs, they only wear out over time with use. So you could leave something under load for 100 years and as long as the spring wasn't used regularly it should be good as the last time it was use.
Beautiful restoration!!!
No worries, your videos are still awesome.
Cool! A nice way to start the weekend!
The 2 minor flaws you mentioned make it look more original. I have 2 of these Gladiators, one came in the G 8 gift set, Christmas of 65, and the other was purchased about 20 years ago.
Looks great! Perfect for in a display!
Well, again, really nice. And I'll have you know, you got me hooked and I just found some cars to practice with. Just some odd ones from the 90's. So we'll see what I can do, and thanks for inspiring me to try. :)
Amazing work. Your an incredible artist!
This dudes videos are re-watch worthy
I don't know how your fingertips aren't full of steel wool bits & brass. I used a slow speed dremel...even to buff out scratches in plastic. And as for detailing - nail polishes come in many metallic shades & have tiny brushes too. Makes for a more glassy appearance on headlights & a more plastic one on taillights. And chrome too can be found.
Nice restoration though. Love seeing all these cars from my childhood!
This has to be my favourite restoration so far nice job- a returning fan :)
Very nicely done.
Great work! , is really cool to bring back to life old precious collectibles :-)
Beautiful restoration 👍
Peace ✌️
Great job, as always!!
Great restoration Bare Metal they both look good side by side 👍
Another fantastic job. I always enjoy your videos they are so detailed and relaxing to watch!
Thanks for the re upload
Really hoping Matchbox will re-release this one with an updated chassis and wheels, they should consider bringing this one back like some of the other classic vehicles they reintroduced recently.
Beautiful! Love the channel.
I found this very interesting as I have not one, but two of these from my childhood. And even the box from one of them. I can't tell you about the spring for the doors as I'm not willing to pop the bottom off but neither of them appears to have had silver paint on the front bumper. Just the grill and I think the headlights. They're not in as rough shape as the one you restored but certainly not mint either. Hey, I was 4 or 5 years old... I played with them.
Great job on the truck
Bro, this is so relaxing I fell asleep in the second video lol
Quedo hermosa la pick up jeep excelente trabajo saludos
Great job... and i noticed an issue in the paint on the front of the hood. But as you said, it's a very small imperfection. And BTW, i would have used chrome paint and not the pen. I think that would give it much better coverage. Overall just nit picking. Looks great.
I would be proud to display this good job
Still awesome video, great work , cool Jeep . Mike Espo …
I have watched this video a couple of times now, as it’s entertaining and also like an art reveal. Good job on your videos!
Looks great 👍
Yes I had that model it was called the Jeep Gladiator Pick-up Truck in the UK. I could only see the one fault, a little grain of dust or something on the right (UK near side) front of the bonnet cover .
Awesome work as usual
Paint on the tailgate shows the restoration truck you did has slightly thicker paint on it than the original, still looks good though, color looks nearly identical to the red on my truck irl
Hey. A very nice car ,a very nice colour and a perfect restoration ;-)
Sharp looking truck
Well now we know spiders like living in little toy cars and cars we drive around in 😆
Great restoration I have a few of these jeeps, luck if the draw all mine are metal springs for the door, and white interior.
Amazing. Great job!
