I am a new driver and I'm having problems. If someone can assist I'd be very grateful. So I done a shift and the shift was 4hrs and 20 mins. I've now taken my card out and not worked for the next 9 full 24 hour days. Ive gone to a new shift more than a week later and when I've put in my tacho card it tells me I've already done 4hrs and 20 mins and had a 15 min break on my previous shift so now it tells me after 10 mins of driving I have to take a 30 min break! Keeping in mind I've had 9 full 24hr days off. I'm so confused and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. This has happened to me on 2 occasions where I've had atleast 3 days in between shifts but it does not reset. Someome please help.

How much is the toll for a car these days ?

Thanks for that . Went to Hull yesterday and saw the bridge as we went kind of under it. Didn’t have time to go over. This helped a lot with missing out .

CPC told us always put on REST before ejecting end of shift this means no manual entry on start required just remember to put back to work before walkround so a good 10mins+ is shown before moving off... This seems to have changed a little now, they want a manual entry on start and to add 10mins to end of previous shift to show working for final admin..This is done for our overseers really cuss I park up let forks unload whilst I hand in paperwork wash hands then return to truck park it up log out, back to office 30secs hang up keys bugger off home. Hate manual entry 1 wrong press and darn thing goes crazy or drives you crazy trying to get back on track.

Hi, I’m new to the hgv industry, 2 times now I done a print out and it said same thing as yours on the paper under VOLVO, !not legal printout ! Please advise what does this mean and do I need to do anything to fix it ? My taco print out now has (?) next to my rest/bed/break symbol

Hi Steve do you not put your tacho in rest mode before ejecting?? That's what we were taught in 2005/6 when we first had digi tacho's.

Watching in late 2022 and still 12 quid for a truck. Just about the only thing in the country that hasn't gone daft price wise.

You dont eject your card until the driving week has ended!

9 and a half years of driving and I cannot bring myself to drive over it.Its high,over water and I personally know one who took their own life on it (I have walked across in the past and as a coach passenger though)

I start a 4am and i do the same as you but you were only showing 10mins (other work) when i on my walk round checks i make sure i stick 16mins on there, great clip for new drivers easy to understand, 👍

Did the same paper roll load for an outfit near Ely....nasty folks at the firm as only wanted agency driver for overweight loads as no weighbridge available on site.....anyhow, like many before, will never drive for paper and cardboard firm near Ely....horrible folks and firm.

What happens if there is a longer period of time between removing the card? Say you last inserted the card two weeks previously. You obviously can't make manual entries for the previous two weeks as that would take too long. Would you use a time sheet?

For those who are wondering the extra lane at the toll is for emergency services Edit: maybe they use the motorcycle lane

By the way, some lorries don't let you eject the card unless IGN is on. So, if like me, it wont eject and you're tearing your hair out thinking its bust - just try turning the IGN on again.

Hi Steve. Cheers for the video. When would you need to take a print out from the tacho machine? Is it just when you are asked for one? I am doing my very first agency job tomorrow and have a lot of new info to put into practice. The agency have told me to ‘download’ my card at the end of shift - do they mean a printout or is there somewhere in the business you’re working for you put your card for this? Finally, sorry - have you any links to a type of step by step aide memoire for different scenarios on the tacho, like doing a print or a manual entry? I've been ejecting my card on rest and it's been counting my off time and weekends as other work so I got in my daf today and it said rest period needed immediately. Our machines are a bit different we have to hold the driver 1 or 2 button in to eject card. Should I end the shift with the hammers showing or the bed??

That is a cool drive and great commentary too. Having travelled to so many countries around the world it is amazing that I haven't explored some parts of England considering that I am from Nottingham but I had no reasons to go to Hull - however, might do a detour to go onto the Humber Bridge to get to York instead - the only downside is that you have to pay toll charges!!

Word is it that it’s all a con to clog up Dartford as much as possible to get public opinion on the side of building another tunnel! More money for Highways England.
