IONONE - lyrics video
The music video I released yesterday with accompanying lyrics! I will share some lore about the lyrics here:
In the second verse I am referring to the Winchester Mystery House, a house built in the late 1800s and early 1900s by Sarah Winchester, the widowed wife of a gun manufacturer. This house is a place of intrigue due to its numerous architectural oddities, such as staircases that lead to ceilings, and doorways that lead to dangerous drops.
There has been much wonderance about the reason that Ms. Winchester built such a house, with many people suggesting she was trying to trick the ghosts of those killed by Winchester rifles.
However, a more benign explanation is that she had a genuine interest in architecture, and was simply experimenting so as to learn of the craft. In addition, certain elements (such as the dangerous doorways and staircases to ceilings) reportedly exist only as a result of reconstruction after earthquake damage. That all being said, this is a popular tourist attraction, and there have been many reports of paranormal activity by visitors.
Also, I will share this explanation of the first verse as well, because literary analysis is a good thing:
In the first verse, I am drawing a comparison between the chemical compound ionone, with its ability to appear then disappear from olfactory perception due to its flooding of nasal receptors, to a skipping record.
Record skipping is often caused by dust - “wool” - gathering on the needle.
“Woolgathering” is a term used to describe daydreaming. And often when we listen to music, we daydream.
And daydreaming, of course, is much like being transported to another world…perhaps like the Greek Goddess Persephone, who was picking flowers when she was abducted to the underworld by Hades, God of the Underworld.
This video is also with a minor correction to the last one - I realized last night that I had forgotten to lower the volume on a couple of the clips, leading to weird rustling noises at a few points in the video. It had been inaudible on my computer but I heard it through my phone. Anyway, that’s fixed now.
