Thanks for watching and for commenting. I think a lot of the lyrics Bon wrote that were Bon-esque were actually a team effort with the Young Brothers (including older brother and mentor George Young), so that alone could account for YSMANL being in Bon's lyrical style (whether it included some of his lyrics or not). I do get a little more into this in the subsequent videos in the series.
soviet invasion was awsome
Oh yeah, and later on in my live sound engineering career, I had the chance to actually work with some of my idols. Fishbone, bad brains, Steel Pulse, GWAR, Ween, and the Melvins. I mixed monitors for them. Each monitor mix had a corresponding meter in waving needle form on the meter bridge. The console was a Yamaha 2408/M. Buzzo wanted a moderate amount of his vocal mic in his wedges in front of him. The ZERO mark on the meters was at about the 1 o’clock position. His vocal, when he sang, brought the needle up to about high noon, straight up, pretty normal but loud. When his guitar kicked in hard, the sound coming from 15 feet behind him was enough to push that same vocal mic level up last 2 o’clock!!!!!! Never witnessed before or since. That means that the guitar volume was such that it was blowing into his vocal mic much, much louder than his voice at one inch. In technical terms of loudness and decibels, that is astonishing. But wait, there’s more. He kept gesturing at me to turn UP his guitar in the sidefill, which was essentially a small P.A. unto itself. More. More. More. Yesssss. Buzzo. The Melvins. “It’s Shoved”, right in front of me, at a level that churns the gut. For me, it was juuuuuuuuust right. Oh blessed day. Blessed day. A highlight of my career. And that’s saying a lot. If I do say so myself. The epic shows and moments of outrageous glory I have lived could fill a book. I’ll do a forced stop. Here.
Very awesome! Sounds like quite a time!
So it’s about 199……2, by process of elimination. Houdini had not been released. I was having a standard impromptu house party for about twenty of my closest freaks, I mean friends, some of us were tripping, but most people think I’m perpetually tripping and thought so waaay before I ever tried it. Of note, some friends decided it would be cool to have a cool group trip and let me in on the fun. Afterwards, while they were all tripping their faces off, running around naked on the beach in the middle of the night, I was tracking ghost crabs scurrying into their burrows and using the angle of the moon and the tidal positioning here in Charleston and had determined that the human species would not exist past the year 2500, and that was being generous. Afterwards they asked about my trip. I shrugged my shoulders and told them I had felt that way before. Because I had. Anyway, at the party scene, we were listening to the White Zombie album, the slow psychedelic crunchy rifftastic song with the Arabic prayer calls that just took you on a journey and then promptly dropped you off the edge of the couch. A couple of dudes said I should check out two bands who were distinctively sludgy, a term I associated with an engine with lacking oil change discipline. The two bands were The Melvins, and Cathedral. BOTH are at the top of my list to this day. Cathedral being an English doom metal band, no, THE DOOM METAL BAND, unabashedly acknowledging that Black Sabbath was their number one if not sole influence and that any comparison would be embraced into eternity. The Melvins were, well, like no other. Then there were those first two albums. The Cathedral album was an EP called Soul Sacrifice. Right off the bat, a hard driving riff monster that no one can deny as a simply exemplary rock and roll anthem, doom masterpiece, and groove laden vehicle into the cosmic soul within us all. Then there was Bullhead. With what looked like a pineapple and various fruits on the cover. Very simple. “It’s Shoved” became both the first bassline and drum beat I could play at will and seemingly from within another part of myself that had been set aside just for that. Weird. Because I didn’t play bass or drums at that moment. I play bass now, but at that point, no. To this day, quite strange. “If I Had an Exorcism”, was just by its title, a kindred soul. Because I needed one. Weekly. Ok daily. The Melvins and Cathedral and bad brains and Carcass are all parts of my almost daily exorcism requirements, kinda like the “recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals”. But in sonic form. Bullhead. Soak it in. Do it again. Do not rinse. But repeat. Do not rinse. But repeat. Do not rinse. But repeat. Boris likes a lot of little things to kick!!
Thanks for watching and for commenting. Love how you described soaking up Bullhead like vitamins and minerals: totally spot-on!

@@EddyCannistraci not at all. You came off as a big fan with a massive appreciation for the music.
A lot of people did heroin. Just because someone did heroin doesn't mean they are a bad person. John Lennon did heroin. Half the Chili Peppers and all Guns and Roses did heroin. Don't be so judgemental.
Where was I being judgmental? Do you mean where I said I didn't think ex junkies were great character witnesses? I stand by that, but it doesn't mean I'm judging them. I simply know their impressions might be impaired or dictated by the need to score.
@@EddyCannistraci thats being judgemental. You deal with people every day who have drug habits and you don't know it. I am of that culture. You wouldn't believe the people that use. Professional people from every walk of life. You just don't know it. You are just wrong in your assumption that you stand by.
@@EddyCannistraci it just bums me out when people take any label and paint a broad picture. I am a Christian too and that happens all the time with Christians. Why not take each person as an individual, just like you want to be treated, and then judge them.
@@knowsmebyname Believe me, I've known my share of drug addicts, including heroin addicts, and when they're in the throes of their addiction they will say and do anything to get a fix. Heroin isn't vaping. It's a serious narcotic that destroys lives and makes people do unspeakable things: from lying to stealing to hurting others and themselves. And many addicts, even ones who "kicked the habit," can relapse at anytime. If being judgmental is taking into account a person's life choices and addiction when considering their unsubstantial claims about who wrote lyrics on an album they didn't witness the recording of, then yeah: I'm being judgmental.

I love ACDC. Bon Scott is my all-time favorite frontman in rock. I read every word of Jesse Fink's book and appreciate it. It helped me form a good opinion of what may have happened. Most of us were not there, so we can only speculate. I feel like Bon was writing Back in Black when he passed. However, I don't think much of it was used. The Young brothers edited a lot of what he wrote on previous albums from what I heard as well. Brian Johnson may have had access to some lyrics, but I think he did most of the legwork with his own lyrics, melodies, and singing style. All I know is that I love Brian for saving the day. He sang his absolute heart out on BIB and I could not think of a more fitting way to pay tribute to Bon. This topic used to really bother me, but I have let it go. None of my post is on a factual basis. Only the opinion of a single fan. I do feel Bon in a few songs on BIB. I do not get that feeling from any other album afterward. Long live ACDC and thanks for the video.
A respectful and reasonable view from a true fan. Thanks for watching and for weighing in! ⚡🤘🏼

Absolutely outstanding video!! Prince is and was a supreme artist, and I honestly think it’s going to take about 150 years for people to really get their heads around what a genius he truly was. He kind of wrecks it for other people. He would be a genius if he were just a songwriter, or a singer, or a producer, or a performer, or a guitar player, or a piano player, or a drummer, or a bandleader, or a multi-instrumentalist session guy. But he was all of that in one, and so much more. I mean, arguably the greatest male pop vocalist that ever lived. As a songwriter, forget it…the only person to combine macro and micro to such virtuoso effect other than Bob Dylan. In terms of his prolificacy and depth of his work, all while being able to write top 10 hits and tour stadiums, he really does stand alone. Nobody, and I mean nobody bridged pop craft with maverick artistry muse chasing like Prince. Unbelievable. Two things, though I had already had Dirty Mind for several years, I remember flipping channels late at night in the mid 90’s, and there was a slow motion skiing scene in some movie that caught my attention, and what’s that? A cover of When You Were Mine? So yeah, that’s how I watched Hot Dog! Another thing, I bust out laughing when Ian talked about “Michael is an entertainer, Prince is an artist”, because that is nearly VERBATIM what I said in a pretty heated argument with a co-worker who once worked with Quincy Jones and was very partisan Michael. Prince’s peers really weren’t Michael and Madonna, if you look at the whole scope of his work they were Zappa, Miles, Duke Ellington, Hendrix, Dylan, The Beatles etc. Oh, and one more thing…this is his third album, and he had absolutely MASTERED album sequencing. The whole awesome opening volley of side one, then going into the more “normal” songs, as kind of an aural rope-a-dope, to then catch you totally off guard for the sustained, perfect side long funk suite of side two…totally incredible. One of the best album sides ever. Plus, that like The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, James Brown and very few others that he could make perfect statements as singles and then go and make such beautiful full length album statements. Anyway yeah, I loved this video, watched it twice, and yet another example of why this is my favorite channel on youtube!
As always thanks for watching and for your extremely insightful comment, my friend. I know when dealing with a genius like Prince we can write and talk endlessly about him and still only be scraping the surface...!!
Every time I mention Melvins to people, they're not interested. "Melvins? What's that? Sounds lame". I have to play the songs for them first and wait for them to ask what it is lol.

I signed the Melvins to Atlantic back in 1992. I was involved with the making of Houdini, Stoner Witch and Stag. They were my first band I ever signed as an A&R guy. I’m the luckiest guy ever to be associated with the Melvins legacy. I agree with a comment I saw in this thread “they’re the greatest band ever that nobody knows about.” I actually like that, those who know, know. Buzz and Dale’s eclectic musical taste is what makes the band special, Buzz will try anything and has. The Melvins are an American treasure and true high art and I’m fortunate to know them.
Clearly, you're a first rate A&R guy with great taste: signing the Melvins! Wow. So awesome and to be involved with the making of those albums: I imagine you have many stories to tell. And obviously, I agree with everything you said about the band. Thanks for watching and for commenting!

Most arguments can have a stale mate also . Why start it ? Chill is another. New managed situation is gonna be. Till the end . And you know it.
I know I disagree with these statements (at least the ones I understand).
I always thought UYI1 was superior, but 2 has the songs that keep you coming back! It's def a deeper album and balances the firey energy of 1 out nicely. At the time I thought every tune was great even if they dipped a little, but now I agree they could've shaved it down to 24 songs or so. Here's my attempt to do that... 1st album: •Right Next Door To Hell, Dust In Bones, Live & Let Die, Don't Cry, You Could Be Mine, Double Talkin' Jive •November Rain, Perfect Crime, Garden of Eden, Get In The Ring, Dead Horse, Coma 2nd album: •Civil War, 14 Years, Yesterdays, Dont Cry(alt lyrics), Breakdown •Pretty Tied Up, Knocking On Heavens Door, The Garden, Locomotive, Estranged, My World(secret song) Bside album...Lose Your Illusions or Bad Apples EP??.. Bad Obsession Back Off Bitch Shotgun Blues You Ain't The First So Fine Bad Apples Don't Damn Me
Nice! I love the title "Lose Your Illusions" for a leftovers EP. In a perfect world...!! 😉
Loved this album then and love it now. A flawed masterpiece describes it perfectly! At the time I didn't see a difference from Steven to Matt(I was 11) but I can see it now for sure. Matt's style never bothered me tho, imo it gave Guns a more "metal" edge which I like. After Izzy left they def couldn't find a direction songwriting wise. Axl wanted to become NIN and Slash wanted to do AFD again and without having Izzy as a springboard they never recovered. What a waste!!! And you're right, Izzy def softened his edges a bit with the Ju Ju Hounds. Prob just reflected his mind set at the time. Good for him! Them not having Izzy involved in the "reunion" b/c they didn't wanna pay him equally blows my mind. Just one more thing in the GnR universe that makes no sense lol. Anyways great review man, I'll be checking out more of your stuff.
Thanks for watching and for commenting. And with the exception of Matt's drumming, it sounds like we're on the same page about the band and these albums (although you'll hear in my UYI II review I dig Matt's playing on two songs).
Such an awesome video!! These latest two albums are incredible, and I still cannot figure out which one I like more, though Tarantula Heart is such a fully composed and amazing piece. It Won't Or It Might is my favorite song on either of the two albums though, absolutely beautiful. I really love how you break down the Miles Davis / Teo Macero influence too!
Thanks as always. I thought you’d appreciate getting a tease of my inevitable Miles Davis video tucked in a Melvins video…!!
Eddy, Eddy, Eddy, of course Bon contributed to the lyrics on BIB. Angus has admitted it in several interviews over the years, `yeah, bits and pieces`. Ian Jeffrey, their road manager said the same thing and also said that Plug the roadie who was in the studio when BIB was recorded said Mutt Lange also helped out. Wouldn`t surprise me if Mutt linked everything together, Bit of Bon, bit of Brian, bit of Angus and Malcolm, bit of George and Harry and his own efforts to achieve the most incredible result. And no one can take Brian`s vocal performance away it was phenomenal. Cheers.
Well, you're definitely one of the more congenial believers of the "Bon wrote BIB" narrative and I appreciate that. I can only find one interview in which Angus cited any kind of contribution from Bon on BIB (and I discuss that quote in further detail in the third video). Most of the time, Angus has said Bon didn't contribute ANY lyrics. But he definitely doesn't win points for consistency. I love Angus, but he might struggle a bit with the english language. 😜 Ian Jeffery was never able to produce any proof of his claims and the band fired him in 1983, so he might've had an axe to grind with them. I definitely think Mutt Lange had a hand in helping the band with the lyrics on BIB (as well as HTH and FTATR) and I think his contributions are the real X factor that the Young Brothers wanted to play down. This is something else I get into in the third video. That all being said, thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers. 🍻
This guy looks like Bon Scott.
