Thanks so much. Doing this for the first time. Using an expression pedal as volume for patches that don't use the keys to control volume intensity like other patches. Mainstage is really great. Last show, I did, RENT, I used it to trigger all of the sound cues, even in the middle of playing. Not used to using my feet so much, but I can't wait to get more versed in these concepts.

How do you get your audio out of your USB Audio interface and into the room? Can you plug a ¼ inch instrument patch cable from the audio interface’s output, right into the input of a clean guitar amp? (Or two guitar amps, if you want stereo?) I tried this and it sounded horrible and shrill. It sounds great going into my Presonus studio monitors. Should I just take a pair of powered monitors on the road with me? Or do you go straight from your USB audio interface into the house’s mixing board? How do YOU get your sound out of your computer and into the room? Thanks!

Mainstage came with Logic 9 so I opened it up and couldn’t figure out how to use it. It is like most Crapple products. You are on your own to figure it out. Never used it.

Do yourself a favor. If you run more than one keyboard, use logic. I know it’s not really intended for live situations but it works better than mainstage for me at least.

Really disappointed with mainstage. Spent 2 days trying to find my midi input tab so I could run 2 midi controllers and never did. Tried everything I could think of to get it to do what I needed it to do and never could. Finally went back to Logic Pro. I know it isn’t really intended for live situations but I can get what I need from it.

This week I remade a song extracting the original vocals from a cassette I made with my best friend 33 years ago.

Logic gets all wonky when you split a song after it has been stretched to the grid. I hope they fix this bug!

Requires M1 Chip minimum. Try playing both the original stereo track (all parts) and the separated vocal stem with the phase reversed on the stem... use the bass separated stem to feed to a tube amp, re-mic and record the base from the amplifiers speaker back to Logic. Add new ambience to vocal with pre-delay from vocal stem only. possibilities are great.

I feel like Logic wins the battle here. Most of the others have more leakage and spectral errors. To have it built in without additional cost makes it a slam dunk. Great honest review.

Is there any reason why the velocity processor range mode defaults with the higher number on the left? I noticed you switched the high and low number (which makes more intuitive sense to me also) but was wondering if it matters. Is the processor simply looking at the highest and lowest number regardless of left or right side or is the side also significant?

Excellent comparison, I was hoping someone would do this. I've always thought Spectralayers did the best job at stems, but I think Stem Splitter is giving it a run for its money (free with Logic vs $300 for Spectralayers Pro!). I was surprised at how well lala did vocals! In general, the mix of the original song input has a huge impact on how well these splitters perform (especially EQ masking, stereo imaging, and reverb); all of the splitters will struggle on some songs. Interestingly, "analog" songs mixed many years ago before all of the recent mixing technology and digital plug-in mishmash can be split with great success. Bravo on this video!!!
