    For years I’ve been using an iPad app called BeatMaker Pro. It allows me to map specific regions of a keyboard to specific patches much like Mainstage. When I worked with a school that couldn’t afford a MacBook, I became very accustomed to using the auto sampler to create a patch on my personal computer, and loading it into BeatMaker and applying it to the synthesizer at the school. It has direct integration with DropBox as well, so it’s very easy to get everything loaded and running. It’s always funny how limitation breeds ingenuity!

    I’m hearing that current iOS AUv3 plugins are being supported. There are many awesome small developers that many have not heard of yet that have been making plugins on iOS for a while. Looking forward to using those easily in my Logic workflow!

    Third party compatibility will be make or break. Waves and UAD are the big ones. Along with things like Celemony. They’ve mostly got native Silicon compatibility at this point, so I think it would mainly be about making a touch-compatible interface. After that, it’s about horsepower. Depending on your Mac, you will hit a limit of how many plugins you can use at once.
    So without those plugins and the power to run them, it’s hard to see the difference between this and GarageBand/Logic Remote. Also, the iPad version should be free for Logic desktop owners.

      Yep! If they want to have any real long term adoption from professionals, having Waves/UAD/Native Instruments on board will be huge.
      Otherwise I can't see people really adopting this into their workflow in a serious way.
      It's not very common with any other software to make the user re-purchase the mobile/tablet version. Usually the download is free if you already own the full/desktop version of the software which makes this weird because the precedent isn't there.

    There is app called AUM on iPad which serves for very similiar purpose like Mainstage it's many orders of magnitude better -))) It's basically midi/audio mixer/router for live performances .. we don't need mainstage on ios, we have AUM

      That sounds cool! I’m going to have to check that out!

      I agree and use AUM every week for performances but I miss having a true setlist. I don’t like having to load a new session each time. I would Love to create a set for exact song and switch between them in realtime.

      @@deecm22 yeah, realtime switching between sessions (or even continuos fade) would be killer feature

    I think this represents the beginning of a sea change in the iPad finally becoming a pro music creation device. Other companies will follow Apple’s lead in making their apps and plugins compatible - they’re not going to pass up the additional revenue stream. This is where the future is headed.

    • @CatherallAudio
      @CatherallAudio  Před rokem +1

      I would love for that to happen. The iPad Pro is way more powerful than it has any reason to be at the moment. There’s not a lot of professional level apps to make use of the hardware inside!

      @@CatherallAudio and I think this is exactly why the iPad is so powerful - Apple has been preparing the iPad for the release of Logic and Final Cut.
