Carbon Fiber Side Skirts Installed | Step 2 of 3 Of The Splitter Lip Kit For The GR Corolla
These carbon fiber side skirts have been a long time coming since I got my front lip splitter from ExtremeOnlineStore.com but they were worth it! The is the 2nd of 3 steps to finishing the entire kit on my GR Corolla. The fit and finish of the side skirts is excellent and they were a snap to install, as you will see in the video.

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys Před 9 dny

      The reason you don't is that the pads can drag even with the caliper pistons pushed in as far as possible. The only way you could use both is after some pad thickness has worn down. The shim manufactures say not to use both shims. If you aren't tracking the car the OEM shims should be just fine.

Reason I’m curious is because I saw this video on GR Yaris where they said the combo works well with OEM adding layer of anti-vibration etc. He swaps in new pads with OEM shims sandwiched in between. Extra protection from heat as well .. I ordered a set of 555 shims and asked them if ok to use both and said sure. They said they haven’t heard a case where the two metals have galvanized etc Video: czcams.com/video/0frkoFIwTrE/video.htmlsi=hgnlopN6Oz4BDHxd I might try and use both on my worn OEM pads first and see how it feels before I throw in the endless

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys Před 9 dny

      @@bbb4019 The OEM shims are very thin while the titanium shims are much thicker. I'm sure that pad thickness will vary depending on manufacturer but with the Endless pads they wouldn't fit with both. If we had forced them in the wheels wouldn't have even turned due to the friction of the pads against the rotors.

Connected it but did not put everything back on so I could make sure it was working it didn't kick in and rotate. I took the car for a 2 mile drive but it still didn't kick on. Is there a reset of some kind that needs to be done? It's connected to the power source so what might I have missed or should I still check?

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys Před 9 dny

      I just cleaned it with small detailing pads, like stiffer Q-tips that I buy from Griot's Garage to clean hard to reach places and I used some Simple Green cleaner. It did the trick quickly on each blade. The fan doesn't always run but not having everything put back together might also prevent it from coming on. There may be a sensor that knows it's not enclosed but I'm not sure. There are only a couple of connections so I would install everything back together and see how things are working. If there's a problem you will get a message or CEL that something is wrong with the battery cooling system. No messages, all is working as intended. Just make sure the few connections are all reconnected.

      @jimsgaragetoys Před 10 dny

      Thank you, I appreciate that! I find the ride to be firm but comfortable and not bothersome. I've had 2 back surgeries over the years and I had no issues on this 5300 mile road trip. This was the first time I've ever used Amsoil. I got a friend that is a big believer in it and is always telling me to try it so I finally agreed to do so. I'm a big fan of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and that's what I've always run on my cars. I might try compare them to each other and send in used oil for testing. Both should be fine since the GRC calls for more frequent oil changes so the oil will most likely be fine on both at the 6 month mark when I change it.

    U aren't going to pull "an Amsoil" & change oil at 10,000 miles or more, are you? First time I disagree with you, if u do. I am anti AMSOIL because that Texan brags about how long between oil changes. Then he adds all those additives.🙄 I suggest Valvoline Restore & Protect. I saw it on the "Oil Geek" & he speaks "the Gospel" on oil. I'm just a 71yr "ole" guy who owns a measly Prius that runs Toyota oil (even over Mobil 1) & I KNOW they're SUPPOSE to be the same, but Mobil is more yellow in color & I feel engine will look more "varnished" as it gets older. All my opinion. I take it your ICE is at least direct injection, but dual injection? That's why the "catch can"? I have low miles on my car, but am considering using that Valvoline occasionally. (And I'm not a Valvoline fan). Nothing personal, I have a certificate from General Motors Chevrolet Division, had HS auto shop, owned some muscle cars, & have worked on my cars for decades. I DID notice how clean your oil WAS draining it. All your cars are IMMACULATE & I always agree with all u do, so hope not to offend. I just love Toyotas.✌️🤓👍

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys Před 8 dny

      I never run 10k mile oil change intervals. All of these oils now brag about how long they can go and I could care less. The GR Corolla calls for a 5k mile/6 month oil change at normal use and 2500 miles for severe service. I'm a big fan of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and use that on my cars but I was curious about the Amsoil due to the fact that item have a 0w-30 that I wanted to try in my 2009 Corolla Turbo S and I'm curious to try it in my GR Corolla too as I feel that 0w-20 is just too thin for a turbo engine. I'm not a fan of Mobil 1 or Toyota OEM oil as it hasn't tested very well when compared to other oils. In fact, the Toyota OEM formulation was down right poor in its additive package. The Amsoil has a good additive package but there were others that had more but were less effective. I told my daughters to use the Valvoline Restore and Protect on their cars that they bought used and have higher miles since we don't know the maintenance schedule they had. I run an OCC on many of my cars, even my Prius as it's been shown to work very well on a Prius. Preventing that junk from being routed back into the intake and dunking it up pays dividends. No worries, I'm not offended. I'm not against trying different things and I know that Amsoil is a quality oil but I'm not doing any crazy long oil change intervals! Thanks for reaching out!

    Ever since first seeing these bushings/bearings, I've wondered if they might benefit from a little grease. Partly for protection, partly to allow all those metal-on-metal interactions to have a little smoothness added to them. I reached out to Racer X last night, but I've not heard back from them yet. I may do it, just for shits n giggles, post the results on the grc forums.

I think you will be quite pleased with the performance once installed. My only area of concern would be the grease collecting dirt and debris which could cause the bearings to prematurely wear. " Which is a valid point. It would get pretty grimy there, floating in the engine bay. Far moreso than if it were hanging out on the shifter side of things, under a shift boot. @jimsgaragetoys great informative video. I had a quick question for you. I just picked up a 2017 Lexus ct200h which is equivalent to the Prius c. The original owner never changed ecvt fluid and the car currently has 101,780 miles on it, mainly northern California freeway miles. Would it be a bad idea to change the fluid with 101,780 miles? I’ve seen some videos saying it’s ok to do it since it’s not a traditional CVT and I’ve seen some videos saying not to do it. What are your thoughts and thanks in advance.

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys Před 14 dny

      Your CT200h is equivalent to a standard Prius, not the Prius C. Your eCVT is a drain and fill just like a manual transmission with no filter. It won't hurt anything to change the fluid so I would do that for sure. Here is how to do it when I changed it last on my wife's Prius, your setup will be the same. czcams.com/video/TMuuCAvutVc/video.htmlsi=eI_6zN645IJW1ldo

      @@jimsgaragetoys appreciate the quick reply, thank you so much. Sorry about all the questions but I just bought the car for my wife and want it to last as long as possible with timely maintenance. She was driving a 2009 Kia Sportage that has just been a huge money pit and I was done putting money into it. So the previous owner of the ct200h didn’t want to pay the extravagant amount that Lexus was charging for the 100k scheduled service. He only did the oil change and didn’t do the initial coolant exchange and the tire rotation like it’s scheduled. Right now it’s sitting at 101,780 miles, would it be ok to do the coolant exchange, ecvt drain and fill, oil change, and tire rotation when it hits 105,000 miles? Also, after getting all of that done, would this schedule be good to follow for the next times around? Every 60k miles for the coolant change, every 30k miles for the ecvt drain and fill, every 5000 miles for oil change and tire rotation. By the way, we live in Vegas so I’ve always followed the severe scheduled maintenance for all of my vehicles. So far so good with my 2014 pathfinder, but I’ve already had a transaxle replaced at 80k miles and now it’s needing a new subframe at 108k miles. Once the pathfinder is on its last legs I plan to get a 2014-2019 Lexus GX 460.
