  • New Endless Brake Pads Install | RacerX Short Shifter Install on Toyota GR Corolla
Mike made the 90 minute drive over to my house from the OREGON COAST so that I could give him a helping hand to get these mods done. I didn't record everything as we were quickly going through things but I will link the full installation video for the RacerX Short Shifter.
The brake pads are a breeze to install and we go through the process of how simple it is to swap them out.

I’ve seen videos where folks say you should use the OEM shims as well as the titanium ones for best results. Curious to hear why you would recommend against. What issues could result

The reason you don't is that the pads can drag even with the caliper pistons pushed in as far as possible. The only way you could use both is after some pad thickness has worn down. The shim manufactures say not to use both shims. If you aren't tracking the car the OEM shims should be just fine.

@@jimsgaragetoysmakes sense. Reason I’m curious is because I saw this video on GR Yaris where they said the combo works well with OEM adding layer of anti-vibration etc. He swaps in new pads with OEM shims sandwiched in between. Extra protection from heat as well .. I ordered a set of 555 shims and asked them if ok to use both and said sure. They said they haven’t heard a case where the two metals have galvanized etc

I might try and use both on my worn OEM pads first and see how it feels before I throw in the endless

@@bbb4019 The OEM shims are very thin while the titanium shims are much thicker. I'm sure that pad thickness will vary depending on manufacturer but with the Endless pads they wouldn't fit with both. If we had forced them in the wheels wouldn't have even turned due to the friction of the pads against the rotors.

@@jimsgaragetoysso I installed the titanium shims with OEM shims on outside. So titanium in the middle. Ngl it took a little negotiating of the pistons to get the sandwich in the caliper. At first I thought it wouldn’t fit but I was able to push pistons back more than I thought and I was able to get them in. Feels a bit more stiff brake pedal, very nice. Didn’t use grease and still there no noise whatsoever. I’ve heard from a few sources that the combination of the two shims offers unparalleled heat protection.
Note: I have about 3,000miles on the pads. I didn’t try this with brand new pads. But 3k miles isn’t much wear. Especially considering I’ve not tracked the car yet and only done one backroad blast that lasted abt an hour.

@@bbb4019 We were curious and did try but that was really tight with too much resistance. I wasn't worried that it would be okay if they fit but if too tight then don't use both. The other option is to use the new pads a short time and then install the OEM shims back on as there will be enough room.
