How to Draft a Public Comment for ASAM Clinical Practice Guidelines
We will have another free work session next Saturday, July 13th at 12pm EDT. No need to register, just show up at this zoom link: zoom.us/j/9913155194?pwd=NGk1VnZJSWducEdYaUExWEtwemcxUT09
If you need help submitting your comment, please email me at Angela@apeacockconsulting.com
How to submit a public comment:
Step 1: Get a blank piece of paper or open a blank word document.
Step 2. Write a factual account of what happened to you or use one of the prompts below to get you started.
Step 3. Proofread what you wrote, omitting anything that could cause the person reading it to become defensive or to ignore what you wrote.
Step 4: Open downloads.asam.org/sitefinity-production-blobs/docs/default-source/guidelines/bzd-cpg-narrative-draft-for-public-comment.pdf?sfvrsn=6d96408_2 to find a page number and line number to add your comment. Do not worry too much about this as the document is very repetitive.
Step 5: Open www.research.net/r/BZD_CPG to submit your comment.
List of prompts to get you writing:
What do you wish were in place during your process that would have helped? What services were missing?
What happened to you that could be prevented in other patients?
Dream solutions: what services are needed? Paid peer services, therapists in the know? Long-term programs paid by insurance? Caregiving and respite services? Outpatient deprescribing clinics?
Do’s and Don’ts
DO write as if you are writing this to a psychiatrist who doesn’t know anything about this issue
DON’T use language they wouldn’t understand or take out of context: (ie. tolerance withdrawal means something to benzo people, less so to psychiatrists and addiction medicine professionals
DON’T curse them out, even though you want to. Write that part first then delete.
DO write a FACTUAL and least-passionate narrative of what happened to you, what you wish happened instead of what you want included in ASAM clinical practice guidelines.
DO ask for help from a healing buddy or email me at angela@apeacockconsulting.com if you need help submitting your comment.
DO ask ONE other person to submit a comment too.
Together we heal. Together we change this.

It’s criminal. I’m a clinical psychologist and yes, you’re right
I hope your messing around doesn’t interfere with Lorazapam availability. I need them. 😊❤
It’s not out messing around it’s ASAM and perhaps you can submit a comment and tell them why you still need them! That’s part of what we are advocating. Have you written a comment?
Lorazapam was the only thing made it possible for me to function! I am so extremely Grateful for them. I was having anxiety..panic attacks..insomnia..headaches and had five children to take care of. I went off them for a few years…but now have extreme muscle spasms which they are only thing helps. 😊❤
Write a comment about your experience, please.
It's another layer of healing to release painful joy until it doesn't hurt anymore. You're letting triumph coexist. 🎉❤
You're so inspirational. Keep up the great work, Angie. Yes, you deserve this!
Thank you for all of the information and encouragement. I just submitted an impact statement on the ASAM guidelines. My story is still in progress ( 18 years on K and now tapering with a very good MD) but I am an MSW with a clinical practice and many, many of my clients have been prescribed benzos for many years. I advocate for them actually more than for me. Again, thank you!
Wonderful!

All done and submitted
Thank you Adel for helping me start my tapering journey. My life has improved and continues to do so. 😊
Well done Angie, thank you taking us all along the way, on your healing journey. It has helped me more than I can put into words. Thanks for giving me strengh to keep going, when I couldn't find the hope. I have recently started to make major improvement, now i'm trying to process all the trauma that i expirenced though it all. thanks again for sharing with everyone and being such a genuine person.
Ughhh already overwhelmed. I have two strokes and In the middle of my benzo taper .

It was so helpful to hear his personal experience. I knew about the SSRI, but not with as much detail. It makes such an impact to hear personal stories. Love the analogies!
Thank you for this!

Im having to rewrite this several times to remove the emotional anger that I have about what happened.
That’s okay and understandable. Just know that can help you in your healing too!
Done. I told my story and posted already. I watched a nonprofit video last week and was just confused. Your video was very informative and helped me understand how to do this. Very important! Thank you
Hello Angie thank you for your comment. I used venlafaxin for 7 jears , do you think that i have a chance to heal in a half year ?Then its full 2 Years complete. Or do you think in more years? What do you think ,Whats your feeling? Thank you very much for all. ❤
I don’t know anything about you so I have no idea. No one can really say. You just have to focus on healing and it will happen.
Thank you very much for the answer.

Hey Angie, so good to see you. Thank you for this video, I have been feeling overwhelmed about this since Nicole's alarming video. I will get onto this&will share with everyone from REST Project UK. I have 2 things: 1. Is B ig P harma just that determined to keep the HARM in pharma As long as profits keep rolling in, is that it? And OK I see the problems and I see ALL the suffering and could probably write a good comment so, if I just had what I would consider a minor case of brain zaps and issues from a quick taper off Effexor, am I qualified to comment? Because … I can’t believe not more people are helping you and talking about this!! My gosh I try to raise awareness of these issues whenever I can but this seems like THE TIME to act, and as complex as it seems, the PLACE to do it- a golden opportunity that can not be missed! Ugh!!!
Why do we have to find a line number? I guess that’s throwing me off
Because that’s just how they know what part of the document you are commenting on. Like a placeholder.
I guess this is confusing me… where is the link to where we can submit a comment?
Everything is in the caption of the video. Just look below the video and you’ll see everything there.
They MUST require physicians to COMPOUND patient’s prescriptions!!! Omg it was the hardest more it’s inducing experience of my life!

Thank you, Angie, for your willingness to help others submit a comment. When I sent the link for comments to my benzodiazepine friends, their number one concern was that they didn't have the cognitive bandwidth to make this happen on their own.
I know that all too well as I experienced it too. I’m here to help those that need it.

Thank you Angie for your work
Thank you so much for this video. Hardest thing through this current withdrawal, is my own family and "friends" not believing me and telling me it is because I "need" the medication. It's heartbreaking to hear that from everyone, even my own mother. You're doing amazing work and I hope to do similar work as you in the future. THANK YOU
Thank you for your insights.
I tried with my DR to taper off my ssri and I was a lunatic in 30 days . This info is very helpful because I want to stop them in the future
Hi, Angie thanks for doing a video on mental stuff. Now at 10 months off, physical symptoms are manageable except the fatigue, but mental symptoms are so much intense and frequent, it's really much worse than earlier months. I feel like losing my mind. The constant dpdr, disassociation from my body and surroundings, the weird thoughts about my reality of my own existence makes me hopeless and out of my mind. Will this ever go away? Will I ever be normal?
Yes it will go away. Yes it feels permanent but it is not! Yes it can sometimes ramp itself up and be very intense. Yes it’s normal for 10 months off
@@AngiePeacockMSW thanks for this hopeful message, I really needed it as the mental stuff is so intense and unbearable with an acute head pressure that I was losing hope . I have come so far that I don't want to give up.
Also there are multiple young people who are struggling with chemical castration sexual dysfunction on an epic scale with anti depressants.
I am aware. I was one of them.
Heyy. Ive gone through this too but i was prescribed the worst drug ever clonazepam in 2021 by a bad psychiatrist and i died but despite tapering. Now, in weaning off antidepressants and its still so bad. I wish antidepressants were banned. In india, the psychiatrists are psychopaths. Im glad im not alone. But yahh. Got no support in this. I wish psychiatrists lose their job they destroy people's mental health.
I agree. 🥲
I don't think the dosage will decide how horrendous your withdrawal will be i was given anti psych effexor and benzo on small dosages for 4 years and here I'm 7 months off with extreme symptoms... If your dosage is helping you even if its .1 mg and if you come out of it ... Be prepared for hell... I came off CT so I've got no idea no words to describe maybe one day I create a video but rn no way
Yes and one small dose can cause this injury. I’ve seen it

The 6th day stopping it withdrawal began...on fire.
Day 6 is when mine started too. Hang in there. Watch some of my later videos for hope. There’s tons on my channel!
@@AngiePeacockMSW can you please direct me to some you have alot?
@@MrPeterISABELLA Just start listening to any of them. All are helpful.
One thing that should not be overlooked is the importance for a support person , do not try to hurry the process. To hurry the process is to put expectations on that person. Expectations may be the very reason they are suffering in the first place. Telling someone they should get therapy is really just a form of gaslighting. The message that that sends is that they are the problem......space and patiences and of course love,. not easy to do but if you are supporting a loved one or friend your life will be greatly enriched..
