Coach Dan Landauer is a psychiatric drug withdrawal coach who has first-hand experience with the destruction these drugs inflict and is dedicated to helping others heal and recover from their damaging effects. In 2015, Dan entered a treatment center and survived a rapid 9-day taper from a cocktail of prescription drugs. His health was devastated, his mental faculties were severely damaged, and he suffered from a barrage of horrifying symptoms. After spending years recovering, Dan has found a new drive and passion in helping others who are suffering the same as he was and works to help pull them up from the trenches of psych drug damage.
Dan is the founder and creator of Philosophical Fishing, an online space that seeks to bring light, healing, and awareness to benzodiazepine and psychiatric drug injuries. His dedication has earned him a loyal following that he has fostered, and has become a beautiful collective of people that support and encourage each other through their healing journeys. Through Philosophical Fishing, Dan collaborates with others in the Benzo community across various social media platforms to help spread awareness and hope via interviews, podcasts, and videos. Due to Dan’s unwavering involvement in his recovery community, he has witnessed the therapeutic effects that result from identifying with someone who has been where they are. He now utilizes that understanding to help gently guide others to walk the path toward deep healing.

Beautiful, guys, thank you. Angie, when you found that old video and said that his words were your hope back then, I lit up. One of the main things that’s been getting me through for at least a year has been something you said in one of your posts. You were describing how much hell you went through, how you thought all the success stories were bull crap, and you said you were inconsolable for a long time. Then you said something like “Then all of a sudden, I wasn’t inconsolable.” That simple statement really stuck with me, and it gets me through the day, knowing that someday I will heal too.

@@AngiePeacockMSW I know it’s not recommended but I had to. It’s been over 2 years now since that happened. I’ve been to both the detox and I’ve been to several psychwards they are very familiar with who I am I never had to take any meds at the psychwards. I was able to hold my shit together in them. It was a great escape away from an abusive spouse so it was like vacation. I still had a million XSX but I’ve got high tolerance to fked up shit. and Im still med free.😊🌹 I was on high dose of benzos for over 12 years, and I took every second generation antipsychotic. There was an all antidepressants from the SSRI SSRI, including Wellbutrin. I have been through all kinds of psychiatric medication drugs. I also did ketamine that was a nightmare. I’m not gonna say I didn’t suffer because I did, but I made it through. I’m totally clean I don’t drink I don’t smoke. I don’t drink caffeine and I eat organic Whole Foods. Exposure therapy was the greatest thing that helped me and I was put through a lot of abuse the whole time it’s still going through abuse but I’m still making it.

28:50 Indescribable inhumanity. "All there is, is metaphor." And as is happening here, recognition and understanding through the shared experience of such horror, at and in the hands of ignorant authority (the medical/pharma model). Who don't recognise what they inflict on innocent people, who they are then content to discard as worthless and hopeless. "poisoned again. and again. and again." Well, you both showed them, what psychological resilience is. Thank you for your endurance and your survival, and for what you do to put right where there is so much wrong.

Terrific to see more and more people transforming their psychiatric hell experiences into good by doing things like coaching and making videos and much more. You two are awesome role models! Thanks for mentioning in the discussion that withdrawal problems are not necessarily related only to benzodiazepines. Most people are on more than one kind of psychotropic drug when they decide to taper, so it can be hard to distinguish which one(s) are causing the withdrawal symptoms and neurological problems. It's complex and it's probably all of them.

Angie and Dan, how and where should I look for a course I need to take to get a degree to help others going through this? I’m 42 days off Klonopin. I’m in the facebook community on some sites and I find myself speaking words of hope and encouragement to others. It is helping me to heal as well. I’m 62 and I’m not ready to retire yet! Helping others going through this is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I feel like it’s my purpose from this point on.

    • @AngiePeacockMSW

I would say your lived experience is your training ground for right now. Healing is your touchstone to look at every aspect of your life to come out of this better than you went in. Next consider some training in non-violent communication or a mental health counseling program. I feel that some of the skills needed (and mandatory) are how to listen, how to hold non-judgmental and unconditional LOVE and space for people who are suffering. So… you can get that through NVC courses, spirituality courses, mental health programs (as long as you can discern the crappy medical model stuff) and coaching programs. Just seek these things out and see what resonates with you!

Oh my gosh yes, I’ve been told all the time because I did certain things during my wd I wasn’t that bad. Or because I’m mostly healed I couldn’t have suffered like others suffer. I was like you, I had to constantly go. I had caustrophobia. I couldn’t sit or lie down. I hate the fact that if you don’t fit these set criteria you aren’t severely injured. I hate the comparison of suffering and some people are so hung up on doing that.

I make sure to let them know I’m on a benzo for horrendous SSRI withdrawal akathesia 👀

I was tapering Zoloft to 7mg and stoped because the symptoms from antibiotics. Last time I took benzo 0.10mg was in March and now I had to restart last month 0.5mg a day.
I went to inward psychiatric hospital and they put me on Prozac and I left after two days. I stoped the Prozac because I didn’t feel well on it.
Today I came back to the hospital with insane symptoms of anxiety and they don’t want to admit me again after waiting 24 hours for a doctor.
I jus left and probably they did me a favor because after I took again 10 mg Prozac two days ago, I literally felt like dying. I don’t know but I cannot tolerate SSRI’s again.
