    I was very lucky to find a lovely therapist who’s best friend (who’d previously been a psychiatrist) had been severely effected by psych drug induced neurological damage. It was nice to talk to someone who understood that I’d been fucked by the drug and would just listen to my difficulties rather than trying to diagnose me.

    I tapered for a year & been off psych drugs for a year now. I noticed several months ago that even tho I was constantly in therapy from 1984-2023 , I never processed any of the abuse I endured as a child or adult & there has been a lot-& about 1/2 of the abuse was from MH professionals. So, now all that trauma response has just been masked and now I can actually feel it bubbling & churning inside me. I literally physically FEEL it in my gut. My whole GI tract, from swallowing to elimination is rebelling! A lot of that is damage from the drugs, processed food, environmental toxins… But I also think my body is PROCESSING TRAUMA!
    But it is DEBILITATING & holds me back from thriving!!
    Your videos are AMAZING!!
    Except for my wife, who is absolutely gorgeous & the ultimate light of my life, you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen!! Thank you thank you thank you for sticking around in this world. You give me hope & soothe my soul! 🙏🏼💜🫂👍🥲😊😭😍

    Hi, totally unrelated comment but hopefully you see it. Could you make a video about withdrawal and the menstrual cycle? My symptoms are absolutely worse during some times of the month, I find NOTHING about that. We’re just like 3 members of SA talking about it and that is ALL. Could you make a vid about it?please !

    Totally agree about the importance of working with a healer in any of these modalities who is validating, nonjudgmental, experienced, emotionally healthy, and not surprised by anything. And you made a good point about how doing the therapeutic work while on the drugs could be a really different experience (perhaps less effective and more disorienting) than doing the therapy after a period of time off the meds. I found brainspotting (a subset of EMDR), energy healing, hypnotherapy, and somatic experiencing to be helpful. I believe my positive experiences with these particular therapies had as much or more to do with who my therapists were than with the processes themselves. There are many great holistic mind/body therapies out there to help our subconscious heal ourselves, with the support of patient and fully present healing guides.

    This explanation is handy, thanks.
    I am lucky to have a therapist who is understanding and encouraging and believes my experience (she's not a huge fan of psych meds), so it's helpful to talk to her as additional support and she's given me coping skills that were helpful. During one wave in the beginning, she let me call her when I was freaking out and talked me down, which was somewhat often for a month or so. I appreciate her so much for that. I'm not sure we can get more out of it than that, though. The CBT and affirmations and all that stuff...I just can't feel it. It doesn't really work that well for me. I really hope that at the end of all this stuff, I've worked through most of the old stuff and the techniques help me process this current trauma. I want to get to a point where I don't think about benzos and mental health much at all. I want a life full of other wonderful things that I don't have the time or inclination to dwell.

    Can the wrong interpretation also intensify the symptoms?
    I am 5 months off xanax. I watched a video that says , distraction is only a bandage for anxiety and not a long run cure. So I was so terrified to do household work, interaction with family members, that distracts me from my anxiety and other symptoms, In this struggle, my mind is so confused and tired, that I felt horrible mental symptoms.
    Do you think that it may be the cause? or it's just an intense wave?

    • @AngiePeacockMSW
      @AngiePeacockMSW  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Either one. The chemical anxiety in this is not the same as regular anxiety. Distraction is the only thing that can help us. Please don’t think you shouldn’t be distracting, you absolutely should be! Once it dies down a bit you can try exposures and things like that but for now it’s survival and letting the time pass.

    Very helpful video.
    I can say that therapies may be useful for any other trauma other than psych meds withdrawal if the therapist completely understand your thought process. But withdrawal takes it's own course of time , and that too different for each individual with the same med history. The only help a therapist can do , if they can validate our symptoms, and explain the reasons for these frightening symptoms, so one that is undergoing the horrible process will not freak out.
    In my opinion, only CBT can help, but other therapies that are not suitable, can even make our symptoms worse
