This brought me to tears. My husband stood by me through such horror as I went through this (severe aka and SI that lasted for almost 4 years). He read and researched and supported me. It breaks my heart to hear this from his side and when I think of all the pain he suffered along with me. And my mother too. She and my husband, and Baylissa, are the reasons I made it through. Thank you for being so candid and honest, ziza.

I’m going through benzo WD’s now. This interview has given me the insight of how the people around me are affected.
I see on their faces the fear they endure by watching me, which causes me more anxiety.
WD’s is a lonely place. To have someone willing and that loves me enough has been such a blessing.
I think this talk is good for all those suffering, not just the caregivers.

I am truly blessed to have a husband that cares for me. He followed me around during post - acute stage to keep me from doing any harm to myself. The agony and worry on his face made me anxious that he would have a breakdown and be ill. I'm now 14 months off and still suffering windows/waves. I am saddened when people say that their family are not supportive.
The impact of this problem and the burden on families, is not talked about enough!
My family is not supportive. And I’m expected to be caregiver for mom and grown son who is suffering within the system past 9 years.

I really admire the caregivers! Lucky are those of us, the harmed people, that have someone by their side helping and supporting them. I have been through this hell almost totally isolated and alone... I feel like the loneliness, not having someone by your side is cruel and is worse than the withdrawal itself which is already a horrible beast....
Me, also. ALONE, except for narcissistic abuser, with occasional phone calls to see if I'm still alive. A Crime Against Humanity. My Rage over this overwhelms me! They have been destroying patients' lives for 60+ years. Don't ever fall for the story that "they didn't know." IT'S A LIE.
Absolutely right pharmaceutical companies use doctors ….problem is deep as even doctors don’t know how to taper drugs ..No single chapter in medicine regarding withdrawal of psychteic drugs..Problem is big in developing countries where some patients get medicines without drugs

This is a great interview on such an important topic. Ziza is amazingly insightful, articulate, loving and patient. I hope there can be a follow-up interview some months from now to see how things are going with her husband. I also hope there will be an even deeper dive into really how tough it is to be the caregiver. As loving and patient as we want to be, there can be so many emotions that arise including anger and frustration when the condition continues for a long time and our loved one is not able to help with much. This condition tries us terribly and is utterly exhausting and stressful. Caregivers can get stuck between a rock and a hard place, being so overwhelmed and wanting to leave the situation completely, but not wanting to leave because they know their loved one is suffering so much, and who else could help? As mentioned in the interview, others really have no idea what the sufferer and their caregiver(s) are going through and how horrifically difficult it is, and their ideas of help would likely make things worse. A question: Is the benzo withdrawal condition the same as akathisia? I heard the word akathisia only once in the interview, and am wondering if they are interchangeable? Is Kevin suffering from both akathisia and benzo withdrawal symptoms? Thanks for any clarification!
It was both, which I believe the akathesia is part of the benzo withdrawal symptoms. The akathesia has settled down quite a bit now.

I am 6 weeks off, after the initial acute phase, was improving, but due to bleach with acid cleaner used in the house, my symptoms increased severely. Some new very disturbing symptoms, blurry vision like severe distortion, can't read, spinning rotating head type feeling, severe dizziness and head jerks started. I am so scared that I won't be able to heal, due to these severe setbacks. No one in the house wants to believe or listen to me.
Please help..... will these symptoms fade away with time? Are they due to acid cleaner strong smell or benzo withdrawal? as throughout my taper I never felt like this before.
My younger brother is a cop and he sees things the same way that her husband did before going through it himself. How do I share info with him in a way that he will receive it? He’s very closed off.
