There Are Risks! The Walmart Gravel Bike - Ozark Trail G1 Explorer
The Walmart Gravel Bike is big bang for the buck, but there are risks to consider. The Ozark Trail G1 Explorer is a fantastic bike that I plan to keep around. But I will be replacing it with a more capable bike

    1. Its assembled and just as well as any bike distributor will 2. It is stock with drop bar, disc brakes, and several mounting points (although the inserts may spin) 3. Its PROBABLY the absolute best value bicycle Ive seen on ANY website. It rides well, but I feel like that front brake is too good. I think Ill have to be careful using it.

    Can i ask the question do higher end bikes have issues? If yes who would we blame if the issue happen. I think regardless of who makes the bikes or where you buy them from all have problems. Buy some new tires for the bike and keep enjoying your rides..

    • @MILTONATOR
      @MILTONATOR Před 3 dny

      In the space of higher end performance bikes, the frame and the components all come with warranty and if/when an issue arises, one can easily file a claim. Not so with bikes like this one from Walmart. I don’t “blame” Walmart necessarily because I expect issues to happen because they’re producing bikes that are affordable for casual riding, not performance based. Hope that helps clear things up for you

    Been riding about 5 years and I only had bad crashes in the first year and since then I'm doing way steeper and rougher tracks. I feel I'm qualified to give advice to 1st year riders and it could be bad advice... 1) Lean way back and make sure the seat is lowered enough to get behind it even if it is slightly bumpy. 2) Consider wearing a dick protector or some sort for when something makes you come to a sudden stop and you are behind the seat. I've hurt my johnson twice when going slowly down something 45 degree sections and the bike comes to an unexpected stop on an obstacle but the body keeps going. 3) Falling off the back of the bike is much better. 4) Wear steel cap boots because although I have uprooted a boulder at high speed with my foot and didn't break anything, I have also gently tapped a rock/root and broken my toe. I still haven't gotten steel capped boots. 3) Wear gloves and brake using only index fingers because all other fingers are required to hold on firmly. I have 1 short lever and 1 long lever currently and I much prefer the short one because it's easier to finese. 4) Probably the most important thing no-one told me to begin with is that the front brake can be applied much harder than I thought. Practice just how hard you can pull the front brake 5) Always stand up on anything rough or at high speed on relatively level smooth ground, to lower the centre of gravity. 6). Put emphasis on leaning the bike when cornering. Not sure on proportions but it made a difference.

    I know this was 2 years back but just watching this now. About 6 months back I had a pretty bad fall coming out of a double tabletop followed by a hard left berm, I was carrying too much speed for my skill level and I instinctively braked way too hard while cornering, front wheel snapped sharply to the left breaking my right wrist and then on the fall I hit my head hard on a rock. I was unconscious for a few minutes and the rest was blurry until I got to the hospital. I've been riding again for a couple of months now but I have a much higher level of fear than I've ever had before, also my wrist is still pretty weak so taking it easy. Much respect for the message you've put out in your video, as you can imagine I have had similar thoughts recently.

    I never thought I would consider a gravel/road bike , but just turning 53 my knees are making me think otherwise . Especially for the price point this bike comes in at. As far as your bike goes I would upgrade the parts as they fail with parts you want and then when the frame is the weak link make the final upgrade.

    A lot of companies are having summer sales right now, Obed, Niner, Specialized, Canyon, Trek, YT, Priority, Ari, GT, Alchemy, Lynsky and Lite speed. I probably missed a few, lol. This is not normal, maybe due to low sales and too much inventory. Maybe we will see sales again around black friday. Some of these bikes are 2k and upwards of 4k for a nice build. Some cheaper options might be going with a Chinese brand like Winspace or searching used - if you can get them to a price the bike is valued at. It's a buyers market right now. I was a bit concerned about those tires on that Ozark bike and after watching your video, I think they are worse than I thought. Good gravel tires are 60 - 80 / piece

    I just got one of these delivered. It was supposed to come unassembled, but came, “put together” anyway. It’s awful. Not the bike, that seems fine, but the assembly. It’s an actual death trap. I am just imagining some poor soul getting one of these, not knowing what to check, and the first time they hit the front brakes hard their front wheel twists off the frame as the quick release skewer nut is reversed. I mean, before riding they’d have needed to tighten the handlebars (in every direction), filled the tires, adjusted the brakes, and rerouted the chain, but after that.

      Yeah, I really wanted to get one fresh in the box for this exact reason. With it sold out online though, getting lucky finding one (pre built) in store is currently the only option. Mine also needed numerous adjustments, torquing, and lubrication to bring it to an acceptable riding state. I enjoy it, but people need to realize you're not going to ride a bike like this right out of the store.

  • @Tinykiller138
    @Tinykiller138 Před 9 dny

    No offense but you just got some bad luck and got a flat unfortunately just upgrade the tires on it. My explorer has been abused since day 1 up and down hills and big jumps and I am not a light person. Why hate on the bike when it’s just a quality control issue on Kenda tires? With that being said, glad nothing happened to you man! I do enjoy the videos. Switch the freewheel to the Shimano 14-34 that’s what I did and it makes a big difference going up.

    This might be an odd question but i owned the ripmo v1 loved pretty much everything about it...till it got stolen. During the pamdemic. But ended up on the bronson mullet. With the rear a tad snaller i find myself nowadays struggling to kerp up with my fellow 29rs. Do you feel that way on this bike. Does it climb as well as thr ripmo?

    • @MILTONATOR
      @MILTONATOR Před 9 dny

      It definitely climbs as good as a ripmo. But you’re right, a smaller rear tire gives agility but it does sacrifice rolling speed (some)
