- The answer we all want to become reality is BOTH. Unfortunately that isn't always the case.

🚲2023 Norco Fluid FS - Sport
It doesn't have to be one or the other. Even a long travel Enduro bike could be a good all-around Trailbike if it is designed and set up right.
Avoid overly long slack bikes. Buy bikes with less slack geo. If your bike comes with an adjustable headset, adjust it to the the steeper head angle. Or, add an adjustable headset to steepen an overly slack bike.
Avoid heavy bikes. Buy a light bike. Or, upgrade your bike with lighter parts.
Avoid bikes that do not climb or pedal well. Choose rear suspension designs that are known to be good climbers. If you have already have a bike, set up the rear suspension with maybe more air pressure, compression, or rebound so that it favors climbing over descending.
Avoid heavy slow-rolling tires. Install the lightest fastest rolling tires that you can tolerate.
Here are some long travel bikes that I think do this well: Ibis Ripmo, Ibis HD6. Specialized Stumpjumper EVO, Yeti SB140, Orbea Rallon., Pivot Switchblade.
Here's my own personal example: 150/160mm travel carbon Stumpy EVO Expert, adjustable headset steepened to 65* HTA, Maxxis Rekon tires 2.6 front and 2.4 rear, weighs 31 pounds.
The Geo on that Norco(I have one! stock 140/130) is great for the climbs, and we all have to get to the top before we fly down! Strong Trail bike for descending.
Been watching your videos all mornings on the 65" at work. Good content. Subscribed.
Thanks man. Means a lot 👊
I own a Scott Ransom 920 with twinloc, I choose 170 /170mm OR 120/120 mm of travel on the fly !!
SO I have both in one !! Boom, drop the mic !! NEXT !!!!
Great video, I love climbing as well. 💪
👊👊
I would shop around more. I've ridden a few Enduro bikes that are actually pretty descent climbers. I just recently rode the Nukeproof Giga 279 and I gotta tell ya, it climbs pretty darn well for a 170mm bike. It's all about bike setup and geo. Not necessarily Trail vs Enduro
You're right, i was waiting for, " So I'm selling my Norco Fluid and here's why." I'm glad you like your bike.
Haha! thanks man. Really digging the Fluid
I have an Orbea Occam 140/140, great all mountain bike, does everything I need it to do
I had the same dilemma recently, debating between an enduro or trail bike...wound up getting a Stumpy EVO (150/160) - hopefully a good compromise between the two? If I had to choose though, I'd go enduro. I know it's controversial, but I actually enjoy over biking. The added confidence on the downs/jumps are worth less efficient pedaling IMO 👍
It's definitely the most popular response for sure, overbiked better than underbiked. That Stumpy was top of my list. All sorts of good reviews on it.
My enduro bike climbs well thanks to a steep seat angle, long chainstay, and high anti squat. It makes the climbs really fun.
Nice! Sounds like a Ripmo? Firebird?
@@MILTONATOR Privateer 161. Effective seat tube angle is 80 and 452mm chainstays.
Thanks for making this video. Appreciate your thinking in matching your bike to your trails. Curious how much different you find your Fluid to your old Ripmo? Seems like they have similar specs.
Thanks man. Loved the Ripmo in terms of pedal efficiency and great going down also. Just not long enough in the wheelbase for me and I could feel on the fast straightaways. I’ve gotta feeling the V3 Ripmo once they release it might get a bit longer
You should definitely try riding a Sight 💯 Climbs just as good if not better than the Fluid & descending is wildly better in all areas.. cornering to smashing!
Yea man. Definitely gonna give it a go at next Norco demo at JensonUsa
I have a sight too and second this. Although I wouldn’t be mad if I had a downcountry bike like an Izzo or Epic Evo
@@bike_somm 😥
@@bike_sommother brands have gone through budget cuts to stay afloat due to lower demand. Specialized and trek downsized too if I recall
@@anthonyhum8739 Some people thought 200-300% Covid profits would last forever.. too much inventory and mismanaged budgets are now what plagues many brands. It’ll take another year or so before things balance back out & we see more new bikes being released again
The Norco seems like it would be more of a playful bike and easy to flick around. Riding the trails you do I would go with the Norco.
For the trails I mostly ride, definitely the norco is a better fit
Love the video Milton!!!!
Thanks Mark! N+1 😜
I literally have both of these bikes!! Fluid a1 for ripping trails and I recently brought a capra core 3 for enduro riding!! Ive ridden alot of bikes over the years from xc to dh and these 2 bikes are the best combo I've ever had. Best of both worlds!! Dont choose, just have 2 bikes!!
Ended up keeping the Capra 😁
@@MILTONATOR 👏🤘
@@MILTONATOR look forward to seeing the video of it! Love the channel mate!!
@@chriswhite8243 thanks man 👊
2 me a enduro bike is a enduro bike and a trail bike idem, depending on the trail (85% singletrack 15% bike parky) i would go for the Capra. and 50%/50% singletrack/bike parky go for the Norco.
I think you meant the other way around. Norco, capra.
Get a We Are One arrival 152 and you have both.
Good job brother
Thanks man
Seems like the Bronson you recently had was a blend of both of these bikes?
It does seem that way. But for me, the Bronson leaned more towards the Capra in how it felt.
Both…n+1 my friend 😊
Working on that 🙏😛
Any issues with over stroking the rear, is it a 55mm stroke? Thanks
No issues man. I’m running a coil now stroke 55mm
I'd go with the enduro bike. Love riding trails, and I do it probably 85% of the time, but a trail bike would not be nearly as fun on shuttle laps or lift access parks as an enduro bike.
I ride my spitfire (custom build) at Killington and it's a blast! It's literally difficult to choose between that or my 2020 gt fury (almost fully custom)...
With higher-end suspension and wheels trail bikes are the $hit
That is true. A full on enduro is much more fun at parks.
Haha! You’re not wrong 🤘
Norco should improve their cable management. I’m still disappointed for their exposed hanging cables at the bb.
That’s a good callout. Then cables down at the bb should be/could be improved
Have you tried riding the ripmo ? People like it as a compromise between these two
Yep! I had a ripmo v2 and it is in my opinion the most well-rounded bike out there. But to me, it felt more like a super capable trail bike and not so much an eduro... and by that I mean that the geo on it is very conservative and as an example, the wheelbase isn't long enough and I found it got somewhat squirrelly at fast speeds. I think the Ripmo V3 is going to be really good though when it comes out.
what camera you use
GoPro 8 black and iPhone 14 pro
A coil on the Fluid!? Make a video about that please. I overstroked mine just 7 mm and put a performance elite 36 on the front with 150mm. I'm currently at Silverstar Vernon for a week with a shock wiz tuner and can honestly say that Norco should have 36s as the OEM fork and the stock Z2 limits this thing way too much. Also, how did the bolt break?
Definitely the 36 should be OEM. Mine is at 160 but will drop it to 150 soon. I installed the coil the same day I broke the bolt. Will look to make a video once I get some mileage on it. That linkarm shaft/bolt is only 10nm torque and I over tightened (messing with it without a torque wrench) Got me one now.
So your stroke on the fluid is now 210x57? From 210x50? How’s tire clearance? I’m debating on going back to the fluid from my yeti sb130
@@johnshredsalot1295 stroke is now 210x55 - I removed the two 2.5mm spacers. Tire to frame and shock to frame clearance is ample. Got another video posted where I show the clearance, if that helps.
@@MILTONATOR sick I’ll check it out. 👌
@@MILTONATOR which video is it?
Real mountain bikers pedal. Stronger you are up ⬆️ the stronger you’re gonna be down ⬇️ 🤘
You know what, there’s a lot of truth in that 🫡
Not all enduro bikes are created equal. Not all trail bikes are created equal.
Weight isn’t everything either. There are several enduro bikes that have been updated in the last 18 months that climb like a goat.
Some trail bikes climb like crap. Some trail bikes punch well above their weight class. Hating to say it, but, the Trek Fuel Ex Gen 6 with a 160mm fork will descend like an enduro bike and climb like a tight XC bike.
Enduro...😁
YT Capra every time.
