- I am finally in a position where I can afford two bikes. I decided to go with the new Santa Cruz Heckler SL as my EMTB. I am one of those "on the fence" riders not quite sold on full fat ebiking - yet. This is a quick bike check for anyone considering this bike to get a close look at the stock R kit build. Congrats man. Sweet ride. Im currently on my own emtb hunt. Heckler SL is definitely on my short list. I demoed a full size Heckler and really liked it. I just wish it had a removable battery at least for charging, maybe even for riding without. My use for an emtb is trips out to the mountains. My local trails I may ride once in a while just to really smash some trails or get in extra laps, but for the most part they don’t warrant an emtb. Having to bring the entire bike to the charger while traveling is a bit of a bummer- I carry it with a wheel off in bed of my Gladiator that has a cap on it. Also can’t fly with it. Or take battery out and ride without if somewhere that doesn’t allow ebikes, so now I’d have to bring two bikes. Also considering the Transition Relay and for full power the Ibis Oso and SC Bullit. Interested to see what you think of the Heckler SL in future vids cause I bet it rides sweeeeeeeettttt!!! And who knows, that may outweigh every other concern I have. So stop reading this and get out and ride and post up some review vids. Lol. 🤙

That Heckler has the same size down tube as my Nomad V6. I get asked all the time if my Nomad is an E Bike. I’m 43 now, I might have to check out that heckler.

Congrats on the new bike. It's odd that a company like Santa Cruz would spec that tiny shock on an enduro style e-bike. It's literally the same shock on their "XC" tallboy.. Guess they gotta save money somewhere.

Most e-bikes need brakes and suspension upgrades, unless you're buying a 14k build.
I went with TRP brakes, grip-2 damper in a fox 36 and x2 in the back. I have a 245 front rotor and 220 out back. Levo comp alloy.
Fyi, TRP are good brakes but they won't sell seals or any parts for the calipers, so I'll be switching to saints at some point.
You’re absolutely right! I just threw in a Factory 36 and first ride on it will be tomorrow. So far I’m actually okay with the db8’s. Seriously thought they’d be the first upgrade but not so. Love TRP’s but I didn’t know about them not selling seals and such. Thanks
The Heckler SL came out like two months after I bought my Fuel EXe which I'm kind of annoyed about (my other bike is a Bronson), wish I had waited a little bit!

I’ve swapped out shocks in the past and have spare bushings. That’s how I made it work
My Heckler SL Fazua drive unit already failed on me - had the bike about a month. Started losing power randomly on rides and leaving me stranded. Contacted SC rider support and they said to file a claim with Fazua for a new DU.
Bummer man. Seems to be a common issue. I just filed a warranty claim myself for a new drive unit because of a grinding noise. No issues with power just abnormal noise. Unsure if it’s an indication that it will eventually fail, but a new one is on the way. Very easy warranty process, it’s the good thing
That sucks guys. Mine has been super quiet and working great so far. Got about 200 miles ish. I’m not a big SC fan boy and I am worried about the Fazua warranty process if something does happen, but man the bike rides fantastic. Good luck with the issues.

How's the range ?
I’m new to emtb’s so can’t compare yet, but I managed to ride 23miles, 3400 ft of elevation, Rocket mode all climbs, River on descents and finished with 4% battery left. I’m pretty stoked with that
What's your weight If you don't mind me asking ? I just got one but I've been riding a full powered ebike for the last 3 years.. before that I had a Bronson..

Only thing e bikes suck for is they cost a lot more to fix than a non e bike when that warranty runs out, apart from that having an e bike is a fantastic addition
