I'm 56 and bought an e-bike last summer. I hadn't ridden in years because I was overweight and my knees were killing me. I've lost 84 pounds by using my e-bike as my primary means of exercise. I couldn't have done it without my e-bike. Ironically, I'm now fit enough to ride my analog MTB again, and I ride both now.
Ironically indeed. What an awesome story. Congratulations
Bought my e-bike last year and haven’t been able to wipe the smile off my face since!
I know the feeling
I have a '24 Orbea Wild and still have my '23 Megatower. Life changed a bit for me when my wife and I had 2 kids in 2020 and 2022 and we're both still working full time. Being able to get out and do multiple rides a week just wasn't and ins't really possible anymore, and as a result, I've just gotten way out of shape. The trails I love to ride are pretty tough climbing-wise, and I was getting absolutely gassed even when just riding by myself, way worse than ever because I just don't have the cardio anymore. What was an hour or 2 long ride normally was taking 3+ hours. Riding just once a week isn't maintaining any kind of fitness so a year ago I bought an Oso and it was awesome. Being able to get out when I could and do a "big" ride and have a ton of fun was so good. Then I demo'ed the new Wild last spring and LOVED it so I placed an order and got it a few months ago. But had I not gotten the ebike, I actually think I would have stopped riding alltogether aside from occasional trips to bike parks or when I can go with a group to do shuttle laps. It's also helping me stay a little in shape where I still can ride the Megatower once in a while and I'm not dying half way through the ride. It was a decision I didn't think I'd make coming from being kind of an ebike hater, but I think I'll always have one now.
Great video Milton, congrats and the new Ebike!
Thanks Antonio 🤘
I ride for fitness so a regular bike works better for me. E-bikes are great if they work for you. Glad you are enjoying yours.
my 3 reasons: fun, fun, fun.
So stoke you were able to finally get an eMTB brotha. God is good and the stoke is high! Can't wait to get some more laps with you soon 🤙
All the time, He is good! 🙌 can’t wait Mark! We need a Greer do-over
I hear you there! I am looking forward to one, and probably and SL like yours. I'm also hoping it will extend my riding into the hotter weather more, which I don't last long in. I don't need to be a broken man after a 2+ hour ride, but I want to ride a decent amount at the same time!
An e-bike will definitely get you that. Longer rides, minimal toll.
Great video better!!! Love those reasons
🫶 thanks brother
Looking forward to seeing what that norco fluid vlt is like!could be my next bike
I’ve had my fluid for a year now and have many videos on my channel. Take a peek… it’s an amazing bike
@@MILTONATOR yeah the vlt e bike not released yet
Yeah Milton stoked for you bud. It took me three years to find the right e bike. I am a one bike kind of guy but need something that is good from XC to ski lift bike park riding. I had my heart set on the Decoy MX but it did not have enough travel for me. I am happy with my free ride e bike with 180 travel. I am never buying a pedal bike again. Keep up the good work🙏🙏🙏❤️
Thanks man! There’s a 125mm travel e-bike coming to market soon. Crazy! But different strokes for different folks, I guess. Already looking at summit later this summer 🤘🙏
@@MILTONATOR Hope to see you again at Summit or snow Valley. Cool 125 sounds fun too🤘.
I bought one in December. I have an aneurysm. I love riding. There are many Fast riders that I could never keep up with. E BIKE allows me to keep up. I also 2vd your reasons. Especially the family being irritated if I come home tired... I cover way more miles too. Makes my regular mtb feel super light too haha.
Yesss! Rode my regular bike today and it feels feather light 😅 and it’s aluminum
Just got one too bro, and still getting a mean workout.
Congrats man! 🤘
EXACTLY!
Cuz it’s fun. 😁
I can see the benefits for a lot of people and activities. I’m just a sadist. Something about climbing the steepest roads and trails I can find and going all out does it for me.
Very nice video bro. 🤘
Thanks man
I have asthma... but I don't really think that has any bearing on buying an eMTB. I want one regardless. The only thing holding me back is money. But it's looking like I can get one this summer and I am super stoked! I've rented eMTBs on Bentonville trips so I already know how amazing they are when they don't fit me right. But I can't wait to see how they ride on a bike that DOES fit me! 🤘
Hopefully everything falls in place for you and you’re able to get your emtb. Bentonville huh? I need to make that trip happen for me 🤘
Go for it! You will not regret this and you will ride more. 😊
i am curently looking for an e mtb but i dont know how to find a great model do you have any advise?
I was a BMX fanatic as a child and a teenager then got into smoking. Biking lost its appeal as a result. Decades later, I tried then bought a Spec Levo SL from a friend. Today, I find smoking disgusting.
I’m 61, I love pedaling and I cannot bring myself to buy an e-bike. I know that day is coming though if for no other reason than age or health related necessity. For the time being I went away from the trend of heavy, super slack, long travel bikes and bought a Transition Spur. Absolutely the funnest bike I’ve ever been on and super capable. I’ve been taking it on gnarly black trails and have realized I don’t need an enduro bike for 99% of the stuff I ride and would bet it’s the same for many of us. My big problem with e-bikes where I live in SoCal is the lack of trail etiquette from the guys riding in my area. No bells, flying up hill as fast as they go downhill. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt and I have had a number of near collisions with some of these clowns. Also, if I hear one more guy tell me they’re getting the same work out as on an analog bike I’m gonna blow a gasket. Bro, no you’re not.
Haha! Definitely not the same workout.
@JP-mp5st not to cause you to blow a gasket but you can get just as good of a workout on an e-bike. It’s not the same workout exactly but the e-bike allows you to ride longer and you can put in as much effort as you want, technically more if you turn off the assist and pedal the considerably heavier e-bike. Also, if bike riders are going uphill just as fast as they’re going down then they’re probably not on a true e-bike but likely on a Sur-Ron or similar or on an over powered bike that doesn’t conform to the e-bike classifications.
@@Scomelbasses sorry just because the app tells you you’re getting the same workout it doesn’t mean you are. Leave your app running and get in the car and drive home after a ride and see what happens. It’s basic physics. If an engine is doing the work that your muscles would normally do then you are not getting the same work out. When I’m doing tough climbs with buddies that are on e bikes they can talk to each and have a normal conversation. I can’t because I’m breathing too hard. Absolutely guys are flying uphill. I was talking to a guy the other day in full face gear on a 170/160 commencal e-bike bike on a blue trail and he was going on about his Strava time to the top being the best that day. Clueless
@@JP-mp5st you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say. If we were each to ride 30 minutes, one on an e-bike the other on a non, yes you on the non would get a better workout. But on an e you can ride much longer and the accumulative effect is that workout benefit is the same. But again, I can turn off the assist and actually get a better workout than you on a regular bike. This just makes the e-bike more versatile in my opinion. I still ride non e-bikes, as well.
@@ScomelbassesI’ve heard this argument from my friends. I usually try to be out 3 hours per ride on weekends and for quick hitters during the week 1 to 1.5 hours. You just can’t get close to that workout with an e bike. So, aside from all day rides (which I don’t do any more) and which I would assume most people can’t do daily I just don’t see how the argument holds up
Interesting - I ordered my first ebike three weeks ago at the age of 58, it should arrive in another four weeks or so (I am 1.95m - 6'5" - there's a limited number of bikes for me) and I agree: eMTB has more momentum than MTB right now.
58..? Youre a kiddo, enjoy your ebik.. I m 68, I bought one 3 years ago.. It's Fun!
Happy new e-bike day! Enjoy
Happy new e-bike day! Enjoy
I’m in the can’t afford the bike that I would want 😅
😅 🙏
I turned 50 last year and I bought and e-bike.....also.....I am able to keep up with the 30 somethings out there who ride 3 times a week.
Heck yea. Congrats
Come on..! Be 100% honest... You bought it because now you have more, more, fun!! climbing & descendent.. Not a shame to have double the fun..
Haha! That would be reason #4
Milton, you don't look 50!
Best comment of the year 😃 thanks man
I thought you were going to buy a meta v5 as it is such a great peddaling bike? 😂
That’s the plan… to sell my norco and get the v5. But right now the timing isn’t right. Hopefully this summer 🤞
@@MILTONATOR sounds like a nice plan! Hope you can make it work. Meta looks way more fun than norco fluid. But if you could only have one bike? Would you keep the ebike?
@@niemazysku actually the Norco is just a fun. Easily one of my favorite bikes I’ve owned. Going to the Meta because it gives me more confidence at the bike park. If I could have one bike only? Oof! I probably would stick with the Heckler SL (or an SL e-bike)
#1 All your friends are on e-bikes
#2 You can't keep up with your friends that you used to beat on climbs
#3 You are tired of being towed by your buddies.
Electric power is inevitable.
Agree 💯
I bought one just to troll all of the elitist haters.
😂
Nah, nope. Not for me and our guys. So many phat @ss mtb'rs on E bikes these days. What happened to the grind and then getting better, faster and stronger? Disappointing when I see it. Of course, to each their own.
“Phat @ss mtb’rs”… two perspectives on this: 1) did they gain weight from riding e-bikes? OR 2) their ebikes enable them to get out and ride. Either way, as you say, to each their own. Cheers
