Ron Lee - 1977 NBA Slam Dunk Contest
While the NBA's modern slam dunk contest format didn't debut until 1984, the league's first foray into organized slam dunkery actually occurred in 1976, just after the ABA debuted their own contest months prior. Contrary to the modern, single-event format, the NBA's inaugural dunk contest took place over the course of the 1976-77 season with players from various regions battling head-to-head for the right to advance. Rounds were generally televised during halftime of NBA on CBS broadcasts.
Known for his nonstop motor, 6-foot-4 Ron Lee was the first dunk contestant in Phoenix Suns history, eventually followed by dunk contest champions Larry Nance ('84) and Cedric Ceballos ('92) as well as the likes of Tim Perry, Michael Finley, Kenny Battle, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Derrick Jones Jr.
The final round of the 1977 dunk contest was broadcast at halftime of the NBA Finals. There, Darnell Hillman defeated Larry McNeil with an array of dunks that featured significantly more flair than what Dawkins and Hayes offered in their own rounds. In 2017, Hillman was finally gifted an official NBA Slam Dunk contest trophy in a surprise presentation in Indiana: czcams.com/video/RU1Qs-5IvtI/video.html&ab_channel=BallySportsIndiana

What the hell was Bill on? Everything ok at home bro?
Drafted by the NFL and Soccer league this guys a beast!!
Love hearing from all these Laker fans still in denial! This was the only win for the Lake show in that series.
IT "why don't you guys like me" I don't know man 😅 maybe you were a dirty ahh player and a poor sportsman
im pretty sure he generated lift with his arms on the last one
Aaron gordon won the entire dunk contest not even 2016
Wow!
Hey bro this the account formerly known as Jaboo82681, YT took away my account a few years ago for posting games, but again thanks for giving me a shoutout.
Jaboo! Great to hear from you and sorry to hear about your channel. Your contributions to the community have been missed.

0:52 love the little sound bite of “I’m not so sure he did.” I love when mics catch this and it’s crystal clear
Knicks fans are harsh! Ewing's put back dunk was clutch and sent them to the finals to play for a championship against the Rockets. But instead of praising him for this everyone always dogs him and brings up his missed layup game against the Pacers in game 7 of the Semifinals the following year. I'm glad the Knicks haven't had success since the Ewing years. #karma
Unbelievable that this place was only open for 20 years
It still F's me up that Sir Charles didn't get a ring, and we have to live in a world where Kenny Smith is a championship 😑
I am Today years old ever hearing about this person 😅
Oscar Robertson was the best, ' Its a mans game, getting a little rough out there ' The 70s was the best. No video bs just guys screaming and yelling and its settled by the ref. Case closed
I love the 70s. No BS video crap. over and over. Just yell and scream like nutballs and then let the refs settle it. Thats the human way.
Wasted talent. Only 38. There are people who are still long way from finishing their careers in the NBA that are the same age and he's been retired for 12 years.
Xavier McDaniel was the man
Sounds “off” without Ray Clay
the boos Karl Malone and Shaq got made me laugh so hard
Watching all those Dennis Rodman videos I wondered who is that guy always cheering on the bench and hissing at Rodman's opponents? I thought it was junior coach or something, like basketballer who finished his career early but who stayed at the sport. Today I discovered who he is, and I think he was a special man.
"Game orignated in the ghetto"?
And they said a white man can't jump now we know the truth, hahaha.
"CUSE BABY!!!"🧡Love ya Raf!!!!
You're looking at the greatest of all time.
Thomas was a dirty player.
Your favourite basket ball player's favourite basketball player.
So his gums were always that big
Ok, 19.5..2024 . This power dunk is still in top 3 ingame POWER DUNKS of all time. Love you Rodney, remember watching you play from east Europe. Hugs

does charles look darker in this clip?
This is back when the NBA was good
and he didn't travel.
Gimmie the hot sauce! At one point in time this was a serious young man. Get him a box of Maple Dunkin donuts. Good upload.
But why dunk it when you can shot a three pointer
That guy will be telling the story to his great grandchildren how he got dunked on by the one and only Jordan
This was the last time travelling has been called in the NBA. Please take note.
Also no whining. Jordan barely looked at the ref.
Got right back up. No flopping around. No laying down for 10 minutes. Grown men at work!!!!
who here after ian used this clip 😂😂
“my number 1 agenda is to win a championship.”
The Malice at Oracle?
My 2 favorite players of all time
Detroit, how could you possibly give up a historic-sounding stadium name like Joe Louis Arena? Come on.

I've never been a fan of any team Charles played with but I still think it's a bummer he never won a ring
I like when he threw the 10 on the table like that @ 4:06, lol. God Bless.
I think history would have looked at Bill Lambier wayyyyyy differently if he wore a bulls jersey... History is always written by the winners unfortunately.
Funny thing is, back in those days, the traditionalists criticized Sampson all day for shooting from outside and not shooting everything from the low block. Today, centers are winning MVP's playing Sampson's style of basketball.
That was The Big O! He played for the Pistons for a few seasons.
