This would've been far better if they discussed initiatives to help them and how to help them. I think the way the government in general deals with the subject, and the messaging a lot of the more popular talking heads are just not appropriate. Not enforcing drug laws doesn't work and throwing them in prison for so long they forget how to be human also doesn't help anything. And neither does going around filming them like this help anything if you're not using it as emotional shock to get people to donate to homeless aid or vote for initiatives to help people. We need social workers and therapy for them, not prison. And we need financial assistance, job training, job aquisition assistance, and teaching them how to properly manage their finances not more drugs.

Nobody wanted to be next on that list. Russia had no right to be afraid because it was clear nobody from the former Warsaw Pact wanted to ever go to war with them, that's literally the reason why we joined NATO in the first place. Our attempts at creating our own democracies weren't perfect. They were heavily influenced by a fetishisation of the West, helped along by propaganda from Radio Free Europe and other CIA psyops. But characterising it all as an American project intended to plunder the corpse of the Russian empire is just insulting. We're our own people too. (Also "Ukrainians West" and "Russians East" is a gross oversimplification, the majority of Russian speakers in Ukraine were not scared of Euromaidan, but my comment's already too long so I'll stop here)
