Former Wal-Mart employee, one of my favorite training videos is a recent one about workplace shootings to teach employees how to defend themselves within an office space, and it features employees blocking a pull door, and then the shooter pushing on the pull door. I think I received multiple looks when I burst out laughing. Wish it was publicly online.
Ironically enough, most of the American media business is heavyly unionized - including most of the actors. I am certain Walmart made sure that no unionized actors were harmed during the making of this video.
Well, this is why Walmart failed in Germany. We want everything to just be on a professional basis, no 'cultlike behaviors' (as it was called in newspapers), cashiers are rather quick than friendly and we sure are gonna unionize if you want to or not. Especially greeders were hated and 'morning motivation' was seen as very weird.
I remember going at the supermarket in Berlin. Those cashiers are fast, like so fast it would make breaking news in my country. "Fastest cashier in the world". Makes me appreciate how lazyness is a working right in my country

They even had a phone number for employees to snitch on each other
I remember in high school one of my friends getting written up at Walmart for calling an ambulance for an older lady who was having a seizure (not a grand one, the kind where someone just stops talking mid sentence and can't respond). @@Boy_Boy unions in america are fucking abysmal, companies will legit put more money into brainwashing employees into "unions bad" so they dont have to raise wages or make working conditions better. Were fucked
@@TheMartine Unions can to some degree affect unemployment positively because it raises the wages employers need to pay their workes. This is positive because the workers who get salary, get more, but it is negative because some of these workers might take up salary which could have gone to employ more people. There wil always be positive and negative sides to something, and unions are no exception to that rule.
German here, have visited usa on work trips several times. The greeters were amongst the weirdest things there (besides the unspeakably low privacy on every single bathroomstalls due to stupendously large gaps in the toilet door). The role of the greeter always felt so fake to me. It is obvious that the person doing the greeting doesn't want to do it and truly doesn't give a shit about your general presence. And everybody comming through the door just knows that, and doesn't care for it either. Who on earth is convinced that having a greeter is a great idea? All it does (in my eyes) is convey a strong sense of a very, very bad attempt of brainwashing people into feeling appreciated. It makes me squirm inside, this blatant act of insincerity and greed. Great video, guys! Due to the age restriction yt has placed on this video (for whatever reasons), this has been the last video I've bingewatched from this channel. Can't wait for the next one, I love your content!
Late comment, but that's not why greeter's are there. They are there to try and stop theft. If they are not checking receipts directly (which they do in most stores) they are there to let would be thieves know that they are being watched. I believe I read if you interact with an employee when you enter a store, you are less likely to shoplift.
@@derrick3001 Except that even if they catch a shoplifter, they can't touch them. If they're lucky and feel motivated, they can lock the entrance to delay the thief. Seen that a few times during my 4 years of pushing carts. The Walmart I worked at, the AP office was on one end, and it's funny seeing the AP managers running to the opposite end of the whole store to try to catch someone. Some run in a genuine attempt to catch them, others just take their sweet time strolling down to the other door.
Actual purpose of a greater supposedly helps reduce theft of Walmart merch. It's psychology tricks that are somewhat effective amongst a good % of the masses.
Apparently thieves are amazing and effective job creators. May we all thank thieves for continuing to virtuously contribute to job security, especially as we head into a recession.
I'm in the mason union and I love it. They won't let you do anything unless it's as safe as it can possibly be, we aren't rushed unless we have a huge pour going, but we all know it's go time when that happens. It's fucking amazing. I'm happy to pay a few dollars to the union in exchange for a comfortable, safe place to work. And, despite paying that few dollars, I make way more than any Craigslist labor worker would ever make. The only way I could really make more money by doing this work is starting my own business.
I worked at Wally World for a summer, and the vid they showed me also included “if someone outside the building is talking about unions, report them to your manager immediately”, as if the unionist was going to blow the place up and the manager was the only one who could stop them. Truly insane.
About the pie toucher, most employees do that in retail. Id say maybe an hour total spread throughout the day as a cashier you spend going up to random shelves in front of store and just slightly adjusting things until they look as neat as possible. There’s even a term for it.
That sounds so depressing. It's wild how much mindless work goes into making the consumer experience perfect. Do you know the term for slightly adjusting things?

The workers really are scared of union representatives. One store was taking steps towards a union meeting, and was completely closed because of it. So, many workers have it in their head that if they spoke to a representative everyone could end up losing their jobs because of it. As far as the “ open door policy” they would say management couldn’t retaliate if people express concerns. However, I’ve seen them pick people apart later, and fire them for meaningless stuff. Everyone knew that wasn’t what it was really about though. At two points during my career there they fired a large amount of people who were close to retirement for petty reasons. I worked as an optician for a long time, and would not recommend it to anyone. It was underpaid, and I ended up personally screwed over so many times. Worked open to close, came in on days off, acted as manager whenever we were without one for up to six months at a time. I’m from a small group of towns with little employment opportunities. Eventually I quit and now drive a super far distance to work in a factory. I don’t regret it at all. Sorry to ramble I guess I just had some stuff to get out lol.

I hate when big anti union companies pretend their employees are one big happy family when they actively discourage too much bond building between employees because it leads to unionising

I find it incredible that they manage to convince even a single employee to be against unions. "Hey employees, you know what you don't want? To be part of a group that has the power to get you higher pay and more fair working conditions!". People don't make labor unions when they are happy with their pay and working conditions, and the only cons to a labor union are to the business and potentially its customers - none of the cons are for the employees. And if you are earning minimum wage and working dumb hours in unsafe conditions, you shouldn't really care if your employer makes less profit, or the customers end up paying more - the employer should make less profit or charge more for their product/service if they can't make that profit or charge the prices they do while not paying their employees properly, or making them work in bad conditions.
One negative is certain unions are infiltrated by anti-union people and organized crime and laws can be made that make it the only union allowed. Therefore people believe all unions are bad
@@essr4580 The main problem I see with unions is when people are not given an alternative. Yet it is such a complex thing, because lets say you get offered incentives to not join a union, that makes sense on the surface, the employers now have to compete with the union to provide better benefits independently. That's good, competition leading to more options. If the incentives are good enough the union dies and what is stopping them from reducing your benefits after the fact? I personally think ideally it should be government enforcing minimum quality of employment but that is not the reality we live in. What is government supposed to be but a giant all encompassing union meant to look after its member's interests?

There are pros and cons to unions, but the pros outweight the cons in most cases 🤗
@@whitemagicsponge7190 What are the cons?
@@TheMartine Unions can to some degree affect unemployment positively because it raises the wages employers need to pay their workes. This is positive because the workers who get salary, get more, but it is negative because some of these workers might take up salary which could have gone to employ more people.
Also if some parts of society is unionized and some parts are not, it can cause misallocation of wages and resouces, resulting in innefective resource allocation.
@@derrick3001 This
@@derrick3001 Except that even if they catch a shoplifter, they can't touch them. If they're lucky and feel motivated, they can lock the entrance to delay the thief. Some run in a genuine attempt to catch them, others just take their sweet time strolling down to the other door.
Actual purpose of a greater supposedly helps reduce theft of Walmart merch. It's psychology tricks that are somewhat effective amongst a good % of the masses.

They won't let you do anything unless it's as safe as it can possibly be, we aren't rushed unless we have a huge pour going, but we all know it's go time when that happens. It's fucking amazing.

As far as the “ open door policy” they would say management couldn’t retaliate if people express concerns. However, I’ve seen them pick people apart later, and fire them for meaningless stuff.
Spot on. The craziest part is that they're generally successful in stopping union membership across the board.
One negative is certain unions are infiltrated by anti-union people and organized crime and laws can be made that make it the only union allowed. Therefore people believe all unions are bad
@@essr4580 hi
@@essr4580 The main problem I see with unions is when people are not given an alternative. Yet it is such a complex thing, because lets say you get offered incentives to not join a union, that makes sense on the surface, the employers now have to compete with the union to provide better benefits independently. That's good, competition leading to more options. If the incentives are good enough the union dies and what is stopping them from reducing your benefits after the fact?

Very cool flag in the background!! Viva Cuba!
Former Walmart onahole here. That little massage is called "zoning". You do it at the end of your shift to make all the little goodies stand straight, front, and center on the shelf. You do this for about an hour or more depending, after which your gloves are wet and cold from the frost melting into them.
I didnt know you guys had so many videos before the haircut one. So much great content. Keep rockin'!
Contrary to Walmarts popular belief, unions are actually pretty dope.
If only their employees knew that.
I just imagined that video clip meme of all the Vin Diesel look-alikes droning "Family. Family. Family.", I would just super-impose Walmart blue aprons on them :)
hahaha shhhh, you're giving walmart more propaganda ideas
my favorite isle is always the mayo isle. so many different types and brands to choose from. its almost overwhelming, but then I remember that once i get even just one mayo my life will be better. So i just grab one and drink it and that usually helps with the unioncidal thoughts i get.
I get to offroad a 2016 2wd nissan titan and do slaloms around cars and obstacles at work. Might scare my passengers but it brightens my day. Wholeheartedly relate to Alex.
my favorite part was when they said flexible and friendly hours, when I worked there in highschool they would schedule me for 2:30 and I wouldn't get out of school until 3:30 and when I would show up let I'd be penalized and get yelled at.
As a union worker at UPS the most inconvenient rule I have to deal with are that I need to face ladders while going down them and maintain 3 points of contact, even on the 2 step "ladders" that go up to the walkway before the trailers. Which I get, it's a safety thing, I just kinda wish for something that small they'd just make steps so it doesn't qualify as a ladder and we can get through quicker. Other than that the only thing that kinda sucks sometimes is that I'm not allowed to work through my break.
So yeah, unions are soooooo baaaaaad for workers... Toooooootally not just Walmart trying to convince workers they don't need a union to protect them from Walmart exploiting them.
Not Melissa from Teen Wolf (TV Series) acting as a Walmart recruiter 😭
Every job I've had started out with at least an hour or two talk about why unions are bad. "Because here at ________ we're a family, and families take care of each other. You wouldnt let some stranger interfer with your family would you?" Exact quote.
This seems like a video Michael Scott would make.
i love your pfp
spooky
Not even a few months ago I was forced to do death by power point at my shitty ghetto convenience store job.
“Unions r bad n stuff!” I barely absorbed any of the information and used common sense.
It’s insane how these companies describe themselves as friendly but in all reality they don’t offer even reasonable accommodation or opportunity for raises. To them a raise is 25-50 cents every year or whatever. While my store has no ‘cult leader’ the individuals are often very full of themselves making a sort of localized cult. It’s a weird feeling to describe and they often have unrealistic expectations for new workers. As if by day 5 I should know the store better than I know every nook and cranny of my body. Truly machine like.
In canada, there are positions where you have an hourly wage, but you have incentive so that if you do more work than is required you can increase your hourly wage for the day. Its very helpful, but it does lead to competition in the work force. Like multiple people might be trying to make above wage at once, then you get those people racing to get the job done... its good in a few ways and bad in a few ways as well
17:06 - 17:34 leaders is the new term for corporate owned businesses in America I think. Here, I worked one job that used team leader or Leader on Duty(store manager or manager in charge of the store for that shift). Then I went back to my old job, that was franchise owned and then got bought by corporate (in late 2021). Now the term for the managers is leader but no one working at my particular job says that.
