Welcome to my new channel dedicated to Aroids which are plants that belong to the Araceae family. Plants in this family have flowers are found on a type of inflorescence called a spadix. The spadix is usually accompanied by, and sometimes partially enclosed in, a spathe.
This family of 114 genera and about 3750 known species and there are many Aroids kept as house plants. The most popular ones include philodendron, epipremnum (pothos), alocasia, syngonium, monstera, scindapsus, and many, many more.
I created the channel to talk about my love of aroids, share creative ideas and art-related content plus lots of tips and tricks about keeping and living with these amazing plants. And it's not all Aroids! We cover a wide range of popular house and garden plants.

Sauromatum Venosum Life Cycle - The flower spike is getting bigger by the day! Hardy Aroid progress This is the December 2023 update and Rupert is growing well in the Ikea cabinet. Putting on lots of inflorescence height but losing tuber weight as expected. Sauromatum venosum Life Cycle. - Following a Tuber for a year One of my favourite of the Hardy Aroid the mighty Sauromatum venosum. I'm going to follow just one tuber (Rupert!) for 1 year and see how he gets on as he grows an inflorescence, his leaves and then I'm hoping he will set seed for us. This species emerges from a tuber and develops into an inflorescence with a purple spadix and a yell...

Dormancy in Hardy Aroids in a UK garden - Seen in Aroids like Sauromatum and Amorphophallus Hardy outdoor aroids, like Sauromatum, experience dormancy as part of their natural growth cycle, especially in regions with distinct seasons. Sauromatum species, commonly known as voodoo lilies go through a period of dormancy usually during the winter months or in response to adverse environmental condi...

Can anyone tell me where seeds might be available.?? I've been wanting to grow these for a long time. Thanks.
I call them potato babies. I think they feel sort of like a potato if they have not died.
🤩I'm crazy about these ! Great video !
only 500 people have met rupert :( very poor. hello rupert! beautiful plant
Do the worms reproduce ?
Obviously, the 2 top cuttings did the best. I honestly don’t think one method is better than another. Certain plants will have a preference. Ive always propagated in soil & it works fine. I’m experimenting with moss & it works. Im not fussy & my plants are all thriving. I keep them in really good conditions. Thanks for the video!
Could you comment on its' medicinal qualities?
Totally LOVE this! Why aren’t people being corrected about spreading false information in regards to this beautiful plant? Videos are plastered all over social media saying that this is the “Rose of Jericho” (Anastatica hierochuntica) which is not true at all. Luckily I did some research but most people don’t! Love your posts! 💌
Agree. I’d give up a whole lot to have an ounce of this artist’s talent.
Thanks for sharing this video
If you ate someone who has generally sensitive skin do not peel the corms without gloves! Alocasia sap is toxic and can cause skin irritation/rash
I've heard people want to eradicate arum because it's too invasive like a weed and can spread, taking over your garden and yard. I've had some for years and it never spread all over, but it did grow big and it only moved a foot or two from where I originally planted it; the odd thing is that there is no arum where I originally planted it. It made me think of "The Day of The Triffids," getting up and moving, but luckily it has not eaten anyone! lol I no longer want it where it is some I'm going to try and transplant it.
Have you tried Japanese maple cuttings in this ? Great video
Amazing video, thank you!❤
What if they’re attached to the plant ?
Where can I get a bulb of this?
120 euro..fairytale price 4 stupid idiots--self made max 20 euro...
Can you propagate without digging the tuber/root system? -as it is so far down in the ground.Peltantra Virginica(eastern U.S) arrow arum...is it an arum?
This is the same plant cadáver ?
Thanks for the info! You’re a natural on camera!
Hello … a very interesting video. I have what I think is Amorphophallus konjac. I’ve grown it for several years and this morning when I went to take it from the paper bag it was stored in it had already grown a huge flower spike…so I’ve just potted it up…. Can anyone tell me what to expect once the flower dies?
5:18 looks like the leaf of a crocosmia, can be wrong though.
I just got one that was sick took a couple leaves buit should have watfched this first, do you think they can prop just from the leaf itself, as I took the ones that fell off and put em in water.
Thank you! This was really helpful!!
I usually keep a layer of sphagnum moss on my plants and noticed that corms tend to form between the soil and moss pretty readily.
Thank you for literally showing and explaining how to use and what it is.
Do you add any water on the white terrain for the pops to sit on??
Hi I just ordered a Worm Cafe' worms will do best in warmer temperatures if the temp gets below 59 - 60 degrees Fahrenheit they will start to slow down and become inactive For best results, most small to medium-sized worm bins should be kept indoors since climate control greatly assists with the effectiveness and consistency of your vermicomposting process. Still, it is perfectly fine to keep bins outside during certain times of year. Just keep in mind that smaller bins (especially anything made of plastic) should be kept out of direct sunlight, ideally in a location protected from precipitation. Also note that the vermicomposting process can slow down significantly when temps drop down below 15 Celsius, and worm bins should never be left outside for very long once temps start to go below the freezing mark. The water in the bottom tray is called worm tea and is and excellent plant food,
Hiya I just ordered a tuber from eBay, as and it has arrived as 2 tiny bulbs already planted in a pot of soil. Do I take them out and wait for the spike to start growing and then plant once flowered as in your videos? I ask cos I also bought what was advertised as a Dracanculus last year but must of been one of these, as I left that in soil and it died… thanks for any help!
Did you already have roots on those cuttings or was they new cuttings. Ive got the chance to buy one of these so interested to know. Thank you.
There great evev thevones without the lights
Neat! Today I've learned. thanks for compiling this into a brief and well-understadable video
Thanks for all the useful video, very specific info which is not easy to find! I have a couple questions, if you find the time: can this plant be kept completely out of soil while it blooms, like a Sauromatum venosum? And if it needs to be in soil, do you water at all, or keep it dry? And second question, do you water it in the time interval between when the flower goes down and the leaf is sent out, or do you just wait for it to start whenever ready and water it after? Thanks again for the info!
This is available in Andhra pradesh
Good 👍
why can't you plant them deeper? shouldn't they be deep where the roots don't show?
Calathea have tubers, can it be used to propagate the same? Please do let me know.
Great video thank you Hi from a sygnioum lover from Australia
damn, that some decent handiwork!
Hey mate, i have been looking at some pre mixes from sybotanica. What mix do u think would suit the best for my Amorphophallus bulbifers?😅 Im a tad confused...
Where do you get your white pots and black pots from please?? Thank you I’m in UK too.
Where did you getting your racking shelving unit from please
Just had one bought for Christmas so thank you for this very understanding video
Missed out on the premiere😅. Awesome video, full of information as always. Keep up the good work!👍
Next video I get to put my new microscope to the test.
What is that fantastic creature behind Rupert?
That’s a creature I sculpted for an anatomy class last year. It was called ‘Deer hunter’ and was basically a centaur but heavily influenced by Deer anatomy. I work in TV and film in my day job so I get to sculpt and draw crazy creatures and plants most weeks.
Belas
It would be so nice if you could mix 2 or 3 different kinds of alocacias in one flower pot and grow them in leca all together! 😂 is just a crazy experiment!!❤
While rewatching some of of your videos, i was thinking about something, i would think alot of people would like to hear about: what soil mix you uses for different species, fertilizers and pot sizes. Im so scared to rot mine away, but i now know i should first start with the watering when the leaf is coming up.😅
