  • Sauromatum Venosum Life Cycle - The flower spike is getting bigger by the day! Hardy Aroid progress
This is the December 2023 update and Rupert is growing well in the Ikea cabinet. Putting on lots of inflorescence height but losing tuber weight as expected.
    -------------------
This species emerges from a tuber and develops into an inflorescence with a purple spadix and a yellowish spathe speckled with big purple dots. The inflorescence grows before the green leaf emerges. Its 9-11 leaflets, each measuring up to 40 centimetres, are borne atop a towering petiole. Mature flowers give off a smell that has been called "putrid" and likened to decaying meat. Insects like flies are drawn to the smell and help pollinate the plant. This plant produces heat on its own, just like certain other aroids.

More updates with this Sauromatum venosum. This is a month after starting the project and the flower spike is growing rapidly.

And a happy new year and amazing 2024 to you to my friend. I'm certainly not the best but the comments are well received. I've got loads planned for next year and as long as I'm learning and building my Aroid collection i’ll have loads to share. One of my goals is to get more folks keeping and sharing Hardy Aroids

@@aroid_artist thx! I will for sure give sarumatums away since they grow like weeds preety much. Started with 6, and now i have over 20 of them, and that is only from the first year of keeping them. Only problem i have with them is their giant leaf tend to fall over or break , if we had bad weather. Amorphophallus leaf seems to be way stronger for some reason.
