  • Scindapsus pictus - Saving my Scindapsus Silvery Ann
Scindapsus is an incredibly popular genus of plants in the Araceae family which of course makes in an Aroid. One popular species in this genus is the Scindapsus pictus and that is furth sub-divided into an every-growing number of varieties. One of my favourites is the Silvery Ann. Known for its large patches of silver on the broad leaves it can make an incredible show piece plant but is often over looked.
Mine had a problem! This video shows you what it was and how we sorted it all out and saved the plant.
Most Scindapsus can grow upwards of 4m in the right conditions with leaves up to 15cm and they can get huge when allowed to climb. Water moderately as with most aroids, allowing the top of the soil to dry out between waterings. This plant grows best with increased humidity but isn’t that fussy. Bright, indirect light of course and it can tolerate lower light levels. Prefers a soil that is quite free draining and that is where I went wrong here!

Oh great video. I am so happy that I found your channel :) I got this plant around 2 weeks ago and the person told me that it just needs watering (curled leaves). I checked for root rot, there was nothing bad with roots but some leaves were almost black, so not sure what is wrong with it. I think I made a mistake by cutting those dead leaves? But I did it. I repotted to the very airy mix (coarse pumice, coco chips, perlite, bark), I watered it and I am waiting.. Not sure how long shall I wait for any sign of life in this plant 😅 leaves are still curled.

Hi there. I do mist most of mine but I think it is more for me than for them. I don’t think misting makes any difference to scindapsus as long as the other conditions are all good. I keep a few scindapsus in a huge terrarium and they are misted all the time and do really well. But the plant I have owned the longest is a Scindapsus exotica and it has never been misted in its life and it looks awesome. Get the soil and light right and it’s up to you.

@@aroid_artist nicely observed, thanks for brief and useful explanation on it.definetly helps me lot. I love scindapsus more than the way i love my other plants 😊.we leave in row houses and sadly not getting enough sunlight to maintain some sun feeding plants so pothos and some indoor variety works in this.i drop my comment here cause my scindapsus are suffers by curling leave i have to look forward by changing its soil media . their may be no issue with lights

@@sunny-vx1pe the curling is protecting itself and usually when it’s under watered but its a fine balance. I do have a silvery Anne that does that but it always recovers.
