- The Silver Satin Pothos is a beautiful easy-care houseplant that thrives in homes while purifying indoor air. The Silver Satin Pothos is a difference species from the golden pothos, marble queen pothos, N'joy pothos, and Jade & Pearl Pothos.
The Silver Satin Pothos turned out to be easier to propagate than other pothos and philodendrons. The Silver Satin Pothos purifies the air of harmful toxins.
My Silver Satin Pothos was thriving from the Eastern exposure began to struggle and suffer, so I had to investigate and rescue this plant. Now, the plant is thriving.
I was wondering if this was a different plant, but... I have learned that this is not a Pothos. It is actually a Scindapsus. It is absolutely beautiful.
You are correct but for some reason that is how some people classify it. I have never seen on that large. I purchased a cutting and that thing is still small. It does hang in there though.

You are correct about easy propagation I was a little weary about the short stems but when you spoke about the sand, o used it and it stabilized the tiny cuttingsand now the cuttings are reaching higher. Thanks for that golden nugget.

Watching this video helped me feel better about my own dilemma . I mistakenly murdered my spider plant and her keiki😭😭 couldn't save her but replaced her , bought a new plant at xeriscape wish me luck I'm getting better with my plants thanks to your videos

Mine suffered the same fate from poor soil and not enough drainage. I only have three cuttings left from two full, bushy and gorgeous plants. Thankfully their roots are very healthy for propagation, fingures crossed 🤞🤞. I'm glad yours bounced back.

I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging year. I hope you are doing well. How did your propagations go? I've neglected my garden for over a year as I got things situated. My silver satin pothos survived, but they are struggling. I'm currently water propagating a few just in case. This plant was hard to find. I hope yours bounced back.

Perfect size pot for the cuttings since they grow better being a little pot bound. Too much soil doesn't dry out very fast and can be a growing place for root rot bacteria. When you de-potted the original plant you could see there were too few plants for that size of pot. The drain hole being partially plugged was only part of the problem.
You're correct. I de-potted another plant, and the roots weren't taking up the pot. I rather the plant be bigger than the pot. I wanted a lush plant, but I guess I have to go in stages... I must be patient.

I was able to save it, now is trailing, slowly but I can see the grow, I have it next to an east facing window. I love the big and thick leaves. This plant is REALLY pretty in person. You can really see the silver shimmers. Videos and images did not do it justice to how beautiful the shimmering leaves are. I saw it at Green Acre near my house and it was stunning! Now I got one too. 😁

That plant is Scindapsus Pictus EXOTICA. Rare and expensive. Silver Satin has a different variegated leaves similar to Exotica.

Did you say that you're on your 7th plant? I'm sorry to hear that. Without knowing what happened. Make sure it's not in direct light, in front of a fan, or watered too much.

Plants are my Therapy...your so sweet and wayyy to busy to worry about my plant woes. It might be the overwatering and I may have purchased some sick plants. It’s hard to tell but I do believe they cut off all the yellow and dying leaves n the store, so I had no idea when I purchased it. And it just continued to go down hill.

Just the same issue with my silver satin, only a month in my life tho. What I did was remove it from the plastic pot it was in that was soggy and too much soil filled to the top rim, cleaned all the roots of the slime and soil goo then gave a fresh clip on the stems that needed it. Divided them in jars of water in a well lit south facing indirect morning sun. I’ll give it a week or two (changing water, of course) to see if new strong roots grow before I repot in a terra cotta pot. Miss seeing your videos. Stay safe. 🌱🌿🧤

I'm having the same problem again, but I don't have the time to investigate. I had wonderful success with propagating, but I put these new plants outside to get a boost from the sun, and they were attacked by snails and slugs.
Now I'm afraid to being them back into the house.

Great video! Try disinfecting the soil next time! I too try to be more financially responsible so, I disinfect the stinky soil by spreading it onto a plastic bag or clean surface and allowing it to dry in the sun for a few days. I also use a little peroxide to water the plant that I use the soil for. I do this for a few waterings and eventually use water as my watering agent. Doing this has saved the plants that had root rot and saved the soil. HTH!
Great tip! the sun is a good source to decrease the unwanted anaerobic microorganisms. I'm focused on saving money these days.

Hello Gerald. I want to thank you for this video. One of my marble queen is looking a little weak and sick too. Pothos love to dry out between watering and I made a mistake and watered it twice in a week. I forget to jot it down in my plant journal. My hubby propagate it this weekend. He didn't record it. This recently happened to one of my golden pothos... no drainage and too much watering. You probably should have thrown out the stinky soil. But I did the same thing. Hopefully it works out well for both of our pothos plants!!

I thought of throwing away the stinky soil, but I am trying to save money. I figured the microflora would equalize after a few days, but it was taking a chance.
My pothos are doing well. I have my satin pothos hanging under a tree in my garden to get more bright indirect light and a little wind.
My "mother golden pothos" (Mother of all my pothos) is suffering:
It recently got very hot and humid in Hawaii, so I put a fan in the window. I liked how it blew on my " mother golden pothos" as I laid in bed. The gentle movement of the plants and breeze of the fan was nice, but in three weeks, the plant developed brown edges and was droopy, so I currently have it recovering under the same tree.
Thank goodness these plants are tough.

I use Alaskan Fish Fertilizer now. It's organic and it doesn't seem to be harsh on the plants, but it sure does smell horrible! The smell dissipates within a day.

I recently bought a rooted cutting of scindapsus pictus for 3 dollars (convertedfrom Philippine pesos which is 150 pesos) that has 3 leaves, so i cut the two out of the same stem and i put it in water. I hope my propagation will be successful.

How funny you made that discovery when at the same time my full and beautiful Bolivian Jew hanging plant started looking crushed or dying on one side only. I did like you and took it out of the original pot and low and behold it was water logged and the opening blocked and root bound. Before I repotted with fresh soil mixed with compost, I squeezed some of the water out of the main root ball, removed the surrounding soggy soil (to repurpose later)then repotted with fresh soil and mostly compost and perlite. Its amazing to know Scindapsus Pictus rooted for 2 weeks in water propagation, same method for me, but I need more than 5-6 weeks to get my exotica showing their tiny white root from the stems.

When I first found the Silver Satin, I thought it was going to be as fragile as the Marble Queen, but it seems to be more hardy than the Golden Pothos. I don't know why roots form fast/slow, I think it may have something to do with the season or if the plant is normally growing fast. I do notice a change in growth during different parts of the year. I don't pay attention, I'm happy it grows.

Talking about Scindapsus. Has just realize that Scindapsus Pictus native in Southeast Asia, and I'm living in Lombok, Indonesia.
I was struggled with my Scindapsus, but now I know, in Indonesia, they live and so happy in shade (low to medium) area, not bright indirect light.
That's why when I placed in bright area, the leaves are always curling and wrinkled, looks a like their thirsty, but 1-2 days after watering, the leaves turn yellow as sign as overwatered.

Thank you for the informative video. I am in a similar situation I bought this beautiful and lush satin exotica last week and found out today it’s not rooted fully, it had started wilting probably cause of improper watering. So- I have propagated a few in water and keep the rest in soil. However I see a lot of the long vines have no aerial roots, can I still propagate them in water?

I noticed that if the soil of this plant remains wet for too long, the stems would rot of its roots. The good news is that the rootless branch/tendril can be propagated and will form roots under the right conditions. Don't give up on this plant, it is a very attractive plant that is very forgiving.

I bought a cheap soldering iron to make holes in my plastic pots. At one time I used a drill but I ended up with too many cracks. Now I just melt a hole. It goes so much quicker

@@PlantsaremyTherapy Yes but can actually get very cold here. A WET cold. We are going to have another night at 32 this coming Tuesday and last week we had a frost. So yes we have cold weather that can affect our tender plants
I know this is an old video, however, yes it was overwatered, and not just the hole blocked but also not enough drainage holes. Curious to know years later how did this plant do?
It did great! I hung it under a tree in front, then it was knocked over. I was planning to propagate it, and I still am, but after it was knocked down, it has been struggling.
My propagations have all been successful and have been given away. I was making more, but then came the attack of the slugs and snails. It's been a rough year all over!
