There Will Never Be Another Gordie Howe
#hockey #nhl #gordiehowe
Gordie Howe, is one of the greatest players in hockey history, a man who cheated father time to play in the NHL in five decades, a man who won 4 stanley cup championships, had 23 NHL all-star appearances, won 6 hart trophies and 6 art Ross trophies, as the NHL’s most valuable player and top point-scorer. A man who had 22 consecutive NHL seasons of scoring on at least 23 goals… And whats crazy is that this list of achievements barely scratches the surface on how Mr. Hockey has left an impact on the game we see today.
Born March 31, 1928 in Floral, Saskatchewan as one of nine children, Gordie Howe’s pro hockey career got off on a bad foot. Not for Howe necessarily, but for the New York Rangers and Lester Patrick, who famously told a 14-year-old Howe at their tryout camp in Winnipeg that he “might as well go home” because he’d “never be a hockey player.”

What in my opinion is also great about Gretzky is, that he isnt full of himself like other greats like in the NFL and NBA which always say they would dominate in todays game. Gretzky once admitted that its way more difficult to score in todays NHL since the goalies are way more athletic than they were during his time playing.

  • @muchidromedary.7368

Mcdavid is the best there is now, he’s been in the league for 9 years and has 982 pts, if you give him another 9 years at his current production, he’d still 1000 pts short of Gretzky. It’s almost laughable how good he was.

  • @trevorwhatever2050

Honestly, with his combination of absolute peak, elite skill, talent, and hockey IQ, it's not so crazy to say he just might be the best we've ever seen on the ice. I know it's brought up a ton, but the overall talent of the League now is lightyears ahead of where it was decades ago, not to mention just how much better goalies are in general. I think the argument could be made that you could put Mcdavid literally any era of hockey and he would still completely dominate in the same way, while I'm not sure the same can be said for other legends of the game.

Roy and Brodeur were so good because they perfected the butterfly style in an era when players weren't really used to it yet. They basically paved the way for the goaltending strategy that is still unanimous to this day. The dead-puck era that started in the 90s is totally because of their revolutionary changes to the position.

  • @christopher19894

Gretzky was kind of average in terms of his individual skills, and he definitely was small; but his positional awareness was insane. He played like he was watching from the stands, plus he had a strange psychic ability to always be in the right spot at the perfect time. He had so many tap ins because of this sixth sense, and he set up even more tap ins with his genius passing plays.

Two players hit 100 assist this year's which makes 5 players in nhl history to Crack 100 assist in a single season. Gretzky is the only one to have done it more than once how about 11 time more 100 assist seasons than anyone has had in 100 point season. Nhl record 163 assist & holds the top 7 spots to himself. Only player to hit 200 points in a season & did it 4 times. 1963 assist is more assist than anyone has points.

Incorrect. In Gretzky se and season he recorded 55 goals 109 assist & 164 points breaking orrs assist record & Phil Esposito point record of 152 points. It wasn't until his 3rd season that he recorded 92 goals & 120 assist & 212 points. If I did understand it correct then you need to educate yourself better before putting false information out there because there is already enough of it out there.

My first time seeing 'the Great One' was in Philadelphia, 1983, when the Flyers were still the Broad Street Bullies. Gretzky made a goal from behind the back line, No deflection and not off the goalie, truly unbelievable! Still have no idea how it went in. Saw him every time after that when the Oilers came to Philly. Amazing to watch how smooth and fast he was, not to mention the ability to see everything on the ice.

Without a doubt, the most naturally gifted Hockey Player the world has ever known. Mario could roll out of bed and score 2 Gs/4 Assts. What people forget is how much he totally dominated with an extreme lack of talent around him during his first 5/6 years. Gretzky always had amazing talent around him; a traffic cone could score 40 Goals playing with Mario (see Rob Brown).

25-30 goals per year? The guy averaged more than a goal a game for a four year span and outscored the whole league by over 400 points over a five year span. He also has more 100 assist seasons than Mario has 100 point seasons. Mario needed a ton of power plays or he couldn't hit big numbers, Wayne didn't have that problem. Wayne led the league in assists 16 times, 13 outright. Mario led the league three times in assists, but never outright. He only ever tied for the lead. (twice with Wayne) Wayne always rained on Mario's parade.
