How Good Is Auston Matthews Actually?

- With 327 Goals in just 512 games played, Auston Matthews has emerged as the most dangerous shooter in the world, reshaping the NHL landscape with his unique brand of hockey. His journey in the league is not just about goals and assists; it's about revolutionizing the art of scoring. But what is it about Matthews that makes him a modern-day sniper? How has he redefined the boundaries of scoring in the NHL? This is the story of Auston Matthews - a player who hasn't just played the game, he's changed it forever.
Matthews' journey to NHL stardom is as unique as his on-ice play. Born on September 17, 1997, in San Ramon, California, his path was unconventional. Unlike most NHL stars who come from traditional hockey hotbeds, Matthews developed his skills in a region where ice hockey is not popular. His journey to NHL supremacy began under the scorching Arizona sun. Matthews' parents, Brian and Ema, played crucial roles in his development. His passion for hockey was nurtured by his mother, a native of Mexico, and his father, an American college baseball player. - Sport
Thanks for watching everyone. Sorry if you've seen this before, had to chop out some stuff for copyright reasons. Also thank you everyone for supporting the channel. Every video, I try to improve the editing and scripting. This one was made a while ago. Can't wait for you to see future stuff I'm putting out :D
A video on mariolemieux would be awesome
He scored 40 goals in his rookie season. Just the other day, he scored his 40th goal - before the All-Star break. This guy is something else.

63 and counting, 7 games remaining

69 and counting. 2 games to go
My favorite matthews moment is last year he had an off year due to injury and still scored more than 40 goals. And people tried to be like "see? He's over rated, he only scored 40 goals" only? Most players don't have a 40 goal season in their career.
I remember people saying Cole cauifield was a better goal scorer 😂😂😂
The easiest thing for Leafs haters to do is to talk crap about Mathews. Don't be fooled, it wouldn't happen if he wasn't playing in Toronto. If he was on any other team he would get far less crap. Goals, blocked shots, takeaways, he even hits... the guy is an amazing player.

As Good as they get. The title is an unasked question, even those of us who hate the Leafs know how good he is.
Hoping he can hit 70 this year!
69 bro
The Leafs will go as far as Austin Matthews will take them. There's only so far a single player can put a team on his back and take them to the promise land.
The leafs haven't had much luck in the playoffs but same could be said about Alex Ovechkin but eventually they will break through that curse.
GO LEAFS GO!!
He is a MAGICIAN!!! He literally DISAPEARS in the playoffs!!!!
He is fortunate to be on a team with the players it has. Not to say hes not great, but he thrives in the environment of finishing. He is so good at finding room to bury the puck and take quality shots, its insane. and his shot is unreal. literally game changing.
Every time the Avs are on the ice in this it's not AM scoring a goal, but rather the Avs taking possession or shooting. I'm thinking someone's an Avs fan. Excellent videos!
When your on a list and the only other 2 are Gretzky and Lemieux I’d say you’re good at hockey
Let’s just say on a better coached team, he’d be a super, super star. Alas.
The problem is everyone starts watching him and forgets to play their game 😅
And this year he has 66 and 4 more games🎉
Imagine this guy with kucherov
Drai-mcdavid-Matthews
As a pure goal scorer, he's the best in the league and it's REALLY not even close. When all is said and done, there will be an argument for him being the best scorer of all time, up there with Lemieux and Gretzky. He's just the kind of player where ANYWHERE on the ice is a potential danger zone for him to be in, and that's terrifying to go up against.
Is he the best player in the league? You can certainly argue that other players excel in areas where Matthews doesn't (McDavid is the best skater and general playmaker, and MacKinnon is just really good at everything he does, it's actually kinda ridiculous), so there's certainly a solid argument to be made that he isn't. But in terms of personally delivering a puck to the back of the net, Matthews takes it. Hell, he got 40+ goals last year, and it turned out he was playing with an injured hand for a lot of it. If 40+ goals is what a HURT Matthews is capable of, then this season is showing what he's capable of in his prime.
Give me Nathan McKinnon to start my team. He’s the real MVP!
He scored 3x Goals in 2 consecutive games!
Twice. Lol
As a leafs fan, he makes me excited to watch them. Concern? His lack of ability to play a full season. I am worried he is a ticking time bomb to a large injury that will reduce his effectiveness for the team. When I think of that that way, all I can think of is Eric Lindros. I hope he can stay healthy.
maybe he will eventually do something in the playoffs tho i doubt it
He is going to be the best American player ever
The mini 8
Sam Reinhart was 2 goals behind Matthews two weeks ago now he is 13 goals behind Matthews.
see hw he does in the play offs this year! thats where it counts
Mitch Mariner’s ability to find him with tape to tape passes seems to be overlooked here. Yes, he has an excellent shot but if someone doesn’t get him the puck, it’s not happening! Playoff success is the real measure of a superstar. So far not good.
Exactly. Hockey is a team game, Matthews in incredible but I think its pretty obvious these last two games he hasn't been the same because he's missing out on marner. The chemistry those two have is insane and they both rely on each other to make good plays
He is the consumate goal scorer + a bit more. Unlike Ovechkin, who is primarily a shooter and needs someone to set him up, Matthews is a good puck handler. He is not at the same level of McDavid but McDavid is a playmaker. McDavid strength is his ability to control the game. Imagine Matthews playing with McDavid. We see the lethalness of this type of combination when McDavid and Draisaitl play together.
The day that happens we will see 100+ goals in a single season.
The net might as well be empty
He sucks in the playoffs, look it up.When the level goes up in the afterseason,he goes invisible, scarred of the consequences.
Good actually? He's good, otherwise everybody would be performing like him since day one.
Now imagine if he played on a real team. If he and mcdavid moved south they would already have a couple cups instead they ain’t getting shit.
In Toronto for spring break right now. Went to a Leafs game last night and finally got to watch Matthews. He’s pretty f-ing good, sick hand eye coordination, ridiculous hands, hustles hard on both ends of the ice, easy future hall of famer.
Pls post more leaf content
Glassthews in playoffs
He's probably the best 2 way forward in the NHL.
Marner really enjoys his line driving.
He is the next Ovechkin and everything shows it. Same height 6'3, extremely good slap shot/one timer and is a great goal scorer if not elite. He really needs to be more physical though much like Ovi. Back when Vegas first got in the league there is that clip of Ovi just bodying a Vegas player over the boards (Vegas is a strong tough team) and so much more clips of Ovi being very physical which is what Matthews needs. As far as I know prime Ovi was strong as heck but I honestly think Matthews is stronger and could be more physical and get in more scraps. He is very tough. Not physical. Don't get that mixed up. He is overall elite especially in the league within past 6 years with the likes of McDavid, Mackinnon, Draisaitl, Crosby (He only gets maybe a bit worse in speed and all that after every year due to getting older and even Ovechkin (This year has just been a downfall year mainly for goals though. He has some of the most assists on the team which hey is a great thing. My point is Matthews is elite much like those guys who there are even more that can go there but I won't get into that.
Eric staal next
TACO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine how good he would be if his line mates played to the level they are being paid.
they are
Have you seen Marners' stats??? Dude is dancing out there. Playing some unreal hockey as well. Maybe not scoring a Lot but the passes, assists and plays the guy can make is incredible if you look at the details in his game....
So currently.... They are playing too his level.
@@Otis43155 Def not playing too his level. They cant, he is so much better. Many guys with more assists than Marner, none of them have a linemate with 50 goals.
@@5Cdarkwing Marner is one of the best Passers/playmakers in the league. As a tandem they have combined for the most goals of ANY pairing. How much better does the guy need to be there??

If one were to take the TO media seriously you would hear that Matthews is barely American League material. Leads the team in goals, blocked shots and take-aways in the O-Zone....ya...but..yabbuttt...he never fights....time for the dinosaurs to STFU.
I'm a Sens fan, so im just here to remind the audience: While Auston scored 4 in his debut, the Leafs still lost that game. Another sign of things to come!

He’s a great regular season player but disappears during the playoffs
hes got 44 points in 50 games in the playoffs, has scored massive goals for toronto. without him we dont get by the first round last yr. and thats with all his opponents main objective is to shut down him and marner. and hes only 26 bout to hit prime years lol
@@zLeGeNdArY- Doesn't matter... he's producing less in the playoffs vs in the regular season and you posted stats prove it (in reg season; he's often well over a point per game)...You can say he takes a step back in the playoffs or that he doesn't step up- neither of these statements are incorrect! But to say he's even as good in the playoffs vs the Reg Season is a down right lie!
I think he is a pretty elite scorer, but a fairly soft player. Let's see what a few more years do to him. Of course, in todays NHL, you're not allowed to breathe on the stars.
He’s on pace to be one of the all time great scorers. And yeah he doesn’t hit like a power forward but he’s still one of the best defensive centres in the league
He can score all the goals he wants but He will never win a Cup in Toronto
mid
He's a world class regular season goal scorer that disappears in the playoffs when his team needs him most. Until he proves otherwise, that's all he'll ever be. To be clear, I really hope he does prove otherwise!
20 points in his last 18 playoff games. The hell you getting on with?
@@canadianpoker83 Yah? How many points for Matthews in the Florida series last year? Did he even play? If he did, I didn't notice him. Where was Matthews when the Leafs needed big goals in all those game sevens? He was invisible. As I'm sure you're aware, the Leafs have only won ONE playoff series since Matthews arrived. I don't care if he had 100 points. He's paid to score big goals in the playoffs when it matters most. So far, he has failed.
Roflmfao, good during the regular season but the absolute worst playoff records and stats for players who make 11 digit salaries, how you are all convinced that team breaking contracts for someone who has said he doesn't care about the playoffs is the best player ever is beyond me. I bet he is even close to -100 in the +/- career playoff stats...
Yeah, this video is a complete fanboy jerkoff. Turning everything into a overhyped positive.

A phenomenal goal scorer but leaves more to be desired when it comes to making his teammates better. Its why Kucherov, Mackinnon, Makar, Draisaitl will always be above him.
Mathews is not a center, he is a high scoring winger. He can't drive a line, his playmaking skills are average, defense average. Look at Elite centers like McKinnon, Crosby, McDavid and Kopitar, they have 200 ft game. Mathews is a better version of Tyler Seguin. As soon as Mathews drops a little, he will be a thirdline winger.
How is he average on defense. Most blocks in the NHL from forwards. top 5 in takeaways lol
@@ryanformosa9746 WHY dont AM34 play in PK, why has he very little defensive zone starts compared to other elite centers? Mathews gets away playing like a winger.

Dumbest comment I've read in awhile. Take your head out of your ass, lol.
Mathews is a great goal scorer however he puts up an average of 40 goals a season but hardly cracks 80 points. He put up 60 goals for his first 100+ point season only once. When mcdavid cracked 60 goals he put up 89 assists. Mathews best year ever in the nhl is on par with mcdavids worst. So far anyhow. He could grow and turn into a player that can lift his team mates with him but to call him the best scorer in the league is just wrong. Stats dont lie. hes entertaining as fuck though.
Most overrated player in hockey history.
