I see beautiful oil lamps in vintage stores all the time. I had no idea it was so easy to convert to electric. Thank you for the video! I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye open for oil lamps now.

No no no; I have a 3 way bulb and a 3 way lamp but I'm STILL only getting ONE setting working properly; actually I have 3 floor standing lamps that, after a year, defaulted to this BS condition: NOW WHAT?

Now my question about the 3 terminal: Is there a way to use a 12v light for one of the lights? Creating something and can only get a hold 12v as the 2nd(night light)

Confusing. You say black connects to smooth which is hot. Then you say red connects to hot. Then you say connecting the hot wire to red will short out the switch. You might want to clarify.

Is the 3 terminal also referred to as a 2 circuit switch.

I have a Dietz Monarch that does not have a ring on top to pull, it has a spring tab in top cover. How does those work to get out globe?

Can you make a video how to select the right burner to a base? I acquired the base with nothing else. I believe what I have is a #2 anchor and Hocking Beacon Hill... I would like to think of about outside options then original.

I bought a pair that were converted many years ago. I rewired them completely from plug to socket, look really neat when they are lit up. They had a heavy patina on both which I left and just polished to a smooth finish.

And here all along I had been thinking I was going to have to drill through the bottom of the oil fount to run the cord through to the bottom of the lamp! I had no idea they made adapters that let the cord run off the side! You have made my day, no, my whole month!

Like the rest of the people commenting in this video, I am pretty confused too so I don’t feel so bad ☺️. I thought about taking my antique lamps to a small appliance repair shop but they don’t bother repairing small stuff like lamps or toaster ovens but only washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. Knowing me (70 year old grandma), I’ll probably short-circuit myself trying to fix the lamps on my own, lol 😆. I was expecting a more technical explaination. Measuring the spring ring holder was good advice to determine the base diameter of the chimney but how does using a taller and different shaped chimney affect the efficiency of the burner and light emitted? 🙏

Do you have a video for how to remove the base or cup part of the socket? The threads on that potion of the socket are what have cracked and broken off on my lamp.

Your example on the right is INCORRECT. It is a lamp with a 3-way switch and 2 standard sockets.

What if your oil lamp doesn't have a collar? Can you still convert it?

Without telling you the brand and model of the dimmer switch, this video is useless, because there are a variety of them and where a particular colour of wire gets connected to can vary between dimmer units. The chinese dont even put a proper wiring diagram on the units they sell on Ebay. Its like their is a conspiracy going on to make sure you cant find out how to wire them in!
