  • There are 2 types of touch control switches: on/off and 3 way (low, medium, high). The both look the same and are wired the same. Touch control switches started hitting the market decades ago and tend to stop working. The touch sensitive switch is not repairable but can be replaced with some simple instruction.

Thank you for the video! Will this work with an led strip? I have ordered one that looks just like this off of amazon but it does not work. I know that I wired it correctly.

Can I use a dimmable led light globe with this type of touch lamp?

So my lamp works, but if you touch the cord it skips through the dimmer cycles. Do I simply need to replace the electrical cord or is this a different type of issue?

I changed out the touch control box on a lamp...and then I found that it didn't allow the lamp to work as a 3 way (low, medium, high) on its own until I plugged it in to a dimmer box that plugs into the wall outlet. The only problem now is that it turns on by itself...and runs thru the 3 way (low, medium, high)...continuously without anyone having to touch it. It will turn off for a while and remain dark...but after a while it will turn on by itself and run thru the cycle. Can you tell me what might be causing this?

So the white wire also feeds the bulb and the switch, is what I gather from the description. But you didn't really say.

I have a custom Bare metal base, and I’m thinking of painting it with hammered finish spray paint. Probably 2 coats, and maybe one clear coat. Dose anyone know if the 3 way dimmer will still operate with the base Being painted? Or will this make it, non-conducive to human touch?

Mine is painted and it works. I did have it grounded and that caused it to not work. I disconnected the ground and it works.

Confusing. You say black connects to smooth which is hot. Then you say red connects to hot. Then you say connecting the hot wire to red will short out the switch. You might want to clarify.

Without telling you the brand and model of the dimmer switch, this video is useless, because there are a variety of them and where a particular colour of wire gets connected to can vary between dimmer units. The chinese dont even put a proper wiring diagram on the units they sell on Ebay. Its like their is a conspiracy going on to make sure you cant find out how to wire them in!
