- The difference between a 3-way and 3 terminal socket is the interior. In this video we demonstrate 2 lamps with different lamp sockets. 1 lamp has a 3-way socket and 3-way bulb. The other lamp has a 3 terminal socket with bottom light.

Great! Clear and Concise in Less Than 2 Minutes! 3 Terminal Is Exactly What I Was Researching, Did One a Few Years Ago And Here I Am On You Tube Again. Thanks For Sharing!
Thank you! I didn't know the correct terminology. A 3 terminal lamp socket is what I need to control 2 light bulbs independently using one lamp switch.
Thank you! Just what I needed to know!
Really helpful for me, now I know how to search and order it. Thank you very much!!!!!
Like the rest of the people commenting in this video, I am pretty confused too so I don’t feel so bad ☺️. I thought about taking my antique lamps to a small appliance repair shop but they don’t bother repairing small stuff like lamps or toaster ovens but only washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. Knowing me (70 year old grandma), I’ll probably short-circuit myself trying to fix the lamps on my own, lol 😆. Thank you for the video because I did learn that there’s different kinds of sockets. Greetings from west Texas 🌞🌻🌵
We are replacing a 3 terminal lamp switch need directions on the how to on this. TY
Thanks! But how to change it?? Install it?? 😕🤔
Show how to wire!!
Great video thanks for explaining difference as I need a 3 terminal for a hurricane lamp now I know what to order
Thank you - needed to now this for a project.
Can you do a clear, concise video of replacing wires and sockets for a 3 way lamp and a 3 terminal lamp, please? I need to learn this as in my local light store closed shop. I wanted to learn anyway. Thanks!!
Thanks! Nicely done
Thank you!!
Did you ever make a video on how to wire a 3 terminal switch? Can't find one. Everyone only does 3 way switches.
Thank you!
Now my question about the 3 terminal: Is there a way to use a 12v light for one of the lights? Creating something and can only get a hold 12v as the 2nd(night light)
Is the 3 terminal also referred to as a 2 circuit switch.
Now if you had a video on which terminals the 4 wires connect to to make it work that way! Someone disassembled it before I could look at the connections, and I've tried every combination I can think of (even tripping a breaker with a combo I KNEW was wrong!) One position turns the bottom on, and the other 2 only turn on the top. Mine has two black and 2 brown wires.
Wich terminal takes the 2 wires ? The darker screw ?
Does a 3 TERMINAL lamp need a 3 way bulb to work? I have a lamp where only the base light (terminal 1) turns on. Everything looks good. Should I just replace the socket?
Did you ever get an answer to your question? I have a almost similar problem .....only the top light turns on, base light doesnt.
So how do you change it why no instruction
Any instruction on 3 terminal?
How do i install a 3 terminal socket?
Similar to a regular socket: loop the wires around the screw terminal. Since there are 4 wires and 3 screw terminals, the 2 ribbed wires (sometimes white) connect to the slightly larger screw. The bottom light smooth wire connects to the black screw and the plug smooth wire connects to the brass plated screw.
@@Antiquelampsupply - The white wire on my lamp looks smooth, not ribbed, and my lamp plug in wire looks ribbed... I'm so confused.
@@Antiquelampsupply sounds complicated. Great videos!
@@Antiquelampsupply Hi ALS, thank you for the vid...in my research, you are the ONLY one I have found so far that gives "any" kind of directions on 3 terminal set-up. Have you considered doing a video for that? The reason I'm asking is I have a antique light similar to the one in this video w/night light at bottom. So of course I have 4 wires. The dilemma is the night light wires are both smooth black and white wires and then the other two wires for the top main light are both smooth same color wires. I think I have to put the black wire on one screw, the white wire on one screw and twist the remaining two wires together and put on screw terminal?
NAME NAME I have a similar lamp as well and the white wire, and the ribbed wire go onto the neutral silver screw. The black smooth wire will go onto the black screw and the last remaining smooth wire goes on the brass screw.
what's the wiring diagram's
Your example on the right is INCORRECT. It is a lamp with a 3-way switch and 2 standard sockets.
Do you know where you can buy one, I have this same issue
@@SpeedBump153 i think you are replying to me. if so, what are you looking for?
i am unable to know what "one" is in you thoughts.
I'm sorry but this was phenomenally unhelpful. i need to know what to do with the 3 terminal socket.
