    Ya might wanna read 1 or more of his books. Interviews may be excellent, but his books are well-structured, clearly presented, and properly edited. Hard books to put down. Next, I'll get "DYNAMITE book#2". Book #1 even lends further insights, from cover to cover.... literally! A soldier 5'7" at 130 lbs humping 145 lbs of gear, is staggering to just imagine. Am delighted Col. Thompson came forward, to share the richness of his experience; both in Viet Nam, back in 'the world', academia, and corporate applications. Col. Ed Wolcoff also composed a book, which has become a Green Beret textbook for strategic tradecraft. Col. Thompson's book is a series of actual AO sensations that help me satisfy adrenaline addiction. Another SOG survivor deserves my respect, for coming forward as another, very team-oriented asset---- PFC John Stryker-Meyer. I was the same rank on discharge; (Proud F^#¿€n Civilian!) God bless these great men for seeing-through all their missions AND make it back home! Am grateful for such interviews.... Thanks!👍

    My great grandfather served with E company 2nd Battalion 509th PIR in North Africa in WWII. He made either 5 or 6 combat jumps in the war: Tafaroui Airfield, Youks-les-Bains, the El Djem Bridge Raid (possibly) with the 509. He later jumped with the first wave into Sicily with the 505th PIR. He also jumped into Normandy and Holland with the 101st and fought in Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge. He passed in 2006 just before I was born.

    I believe any real mensch can suffer PTS... even not having Honorably served.... as me concede to Dynamite Dick..... PTS can happen on any normal day shopping (por ex.), if caught crossing street while a motor vehicle racing at a pedestrian crossing it. PTSDeath happens when pedestrian "freezes" as if to watch (or exercise supposed kinesthetic mind control of rogue vehicle😮). Between this & Jocko, I'd pay for the quality-viewing presented here. Have seen our 'boys' in action. Once (or twice) type-specific blood was required for a wounded infantryman. The fellow soldiers from his unit were collected almost instantaneously, at "drop of hat".... n proceeded to help him survive surgery. The more I know.... da more I love my people.

      Everything was wrong with the Ebay solid beech stock. I mean everything. The action would not fit without extensive hand fitting. The exterior metal would not fit without extensive hand-fitting. The stock was overall 10% too big. I left a review on the item and the seller asked for me to remove my review. My uncle, Bill Price, was a charter member of 509th PIB who was with them through Anzio, after which time he was rotated home. He had already been a sergeant for a few years in the regular army when he volunteered for the paratroopers in 1941. He eventually made sergeant again in the 509th, but was busted back down to corporal for "fighting" with an officer. He died in 2010 at the age of 90, and while he would discuss his service, he would not talk about combat. He was in E company (later B company), which, as you're familiar with the unit, know that was the company that was decimated at Carano (Anzio) on Feb. 29, 1944. My uncle was one of the handful of survivors -- and was also one of the survivors of Venafro. He told me that the flight from England to North Africa was so long that by the time they got there, they couldn't wait to get out of the plane. In his case, they didn't jump, as the plane he was in had been shot down and crashed. He also told me that he was alone, behind enemy lines for three days after the night jump at Avelino. I asked him what he did, and he told me he went up on the mountain, as the Germans were down in the valley, until he and others from his unit were linked up, at which time they started cutting lines of communication, blowing up bridges, sniping patrols, etc. He said Italian civilians gave him some American rations which had been air dropped and they collected. He also had a rifle shot out of his hand twice during that time by the Germans, once while up a pole cutting a line. That story was recounted in our local newspaper at the time. I have a photo of him with his company in North Africa (probably 1943). When I look at the photo I realize that before the end of the year, three quarters of the men in that photo would be dead -- then three months later, three quarters of restructured company also dead.

    • @jimalexander687
      @jimalexander687 Před 9 měsíci

      When I asked him about the lowest altitude mass parachute drop, he laughed and said, "You no sooner left the plane, and you were on the ground. Boom!!" I asked if he got hurt. He said, no, that the ground was boggy and soft. He also fondly remembered his unit *twice* breaking the record for completing the British commando assault course at Woolacombe. He also told me that he never once attended a reunion of his unit -- and I imagine, dying in 2010, he was probably the last survivor of 509 PIB from its inception who was in combat (there was one man in the HQ unit still alive at the time who contacted me in late 2009, remembered my uncle, and wanted to talk to him, but my uncle was very sick at the time -- and he died in February 2010. When I asked him in March 2007 if he wanted to say anything at all about his service or his unit, my uncle only replied that they were all "men" in his unit, and he was proud to have served with them. When I told my uncle about an offer by a paratrooper re-enactment group for him to participate in a free, all expense-paid trip back to Anzio (for April 2008), he responded, "I've seen enough of Anzio." He told me in 2007 that he never once watched anything about the war on TV. I find that remarkable, but understandable, given what he experienced.

Why would they hurry an load all the steel from the towers and ship it to china, why not a local scrapyard. If the enemy had a pilot captured and televised how they lit him on fire to die, why wouldnt they admit to the towers? Afraid? Think that burnt pilot speaks otherwise. Let's be clear, 'Silently Proud' is the mantra all Tier 1 should live and majority do live. Unfortunately, in recent years, a number of individuals have broken cover, not for historical perspective reasonings, but for self-gratification. The words, Special, Secret, simply means to remain Special, it has to remain Secretive. The more that break cover, the less Secretive and less Special that Unit is viewed. If an individual wants recognition while serving or post service, then please don't try to become part of Tier 1, as its a contradiction (Recognition vs Tier 1). Without Equal (Sine Pari) - Who Dares Wins

    Here are some facts, that might help... The first 'ever' 2x Americans post WW2 that did an exchange trip with the British SAS were an Officer, Bud Sydnor & NCO Dick Meadows in 1960. Dick Meadows married the British SAS, RSM's daughter, Pamela (Read the 2 books written about Dick Meadows, the best and most accurate being by the author Alan Hoe, 'The Quiet Professional'). Point being, Beckwith, as stated on this Podcast wrongly, was not the first American on exchange with 22SAS. It was alluded in this podcast about Beckwith firing & hiring within days. The unfortunate reality is that Beckwith was an Alcoholic (Known by all, overlooked by many, often missed-out in conversations when talking about Beckwith) and is the main reasoning why he couldn't remember firing guys, as alluded to in this podcast. It is one of the key reasons arguably Dick Meadows and Beckwith never got-on, because of Beckwith often being drunk. Beckwith & Meadows managed a professional acceptance when forced to work together, as directed by the higher ranking US Military Officers/Command when formal permission was granted, for the creation of 'Delta'. Dick Meadows, was assigned the task to set-up & run the first ever selection(s) of individuals & subsequent training. In Meadows own words, 'Delta comes from two distinct foundations, 22SAS and the Son Tay Raid. It just happened Dick Meadows was involved with both. Maybe, it is why there is a 8ft statue to Dick Meadows on Fort Bragg, yet no such memorisation of Beckwith? That in itself maybe tells a tale and unfortunately all of Beckwith's good and legacy of founding father of Delta, was blighted by alcoholism at the time and later-on in life.
