Special Forces historian Bud Gibson joins the MMH Podcast to prove how MACV-SOG directly led to the creation of Delta Force. In Part 1, we discussed Col. Charlie Beckwith and Major Richard J. Meadows who were both founding figures of Delta who had served with SOG in Vietnam. In Part 2, we tell the stories of MSgt. William ”Country” Grimes, SGM Walter L. Great show brother, was happy to carry on the family legacy formed by my Grandfather in MACV-SOG.

Toward the end of my tour with SOG, the rumors of Delta were common. Many folks were talking up moving to whatever "Delta" might be. Also, some folks were talking about heading to Bangaladesh and whatever mercenary action that offered. A quote one guy said regarding Vietnam *This is our only war, and we're screwing it up."
    Good job Bud.
Hatchet forces were also a place to put some new bodies for exposure. RT and ST had to have combat experienced folks. A hatchet force I was first put with was a "S&D" but also a practice run for a few new bodies.(me for example.) Figuring a new person would have less effect on the overall mission. But one inexperienced guy was 10% of the RT. A screw up there could lose the whole team.

Let's be clear, 'Silently Proud' is the mantra all Tier 1 should live and majority do live. Unfortunately, in recent years, a number of individuals have broken cover, not for historical perspective reasonings, but for self-gratification. The words, Special, Secret, simply means to remain Special, it has to remain Secretive. The more that break cover, the less Secretive and less Special that Unit is viewed.
If an individual wants recognition while serving or post service, then please don't try to become part of Tier 1, as its a contradiction (Recognition vs Tier 1).
