DIY CNC Plasma Table: Home Built Following JD's Garage Plans
Join me in this video as I construct and test JD's Garage's CNC plasma table using their budget-friendly plans. This table, which can be assembled for approximately $500, offers a work area of around 28"X28" and utilizes AutoDesk Fusion, a free CAD software, for design and GCode generation.
Throughout the video, I document the construction process, share my insights, troubleshoot any challenges I encounter, and finally, put the finished project to the test. Whether you're a seasoned builder or just starting out, this video provides valuable insights and inspiration for your own CNC projects.

    I used a 30"x32" water pan from Vevor ($85) . I had to make the table a bit bigger to accommodate it. Planned that ahead of time. It also has a drain for the water which helps a ton when emptying.

    At the 6:10 mark you are turning an allen key to raise the cantilevered X axis to level it. I think I may be doing this wrong on my JD plasma table. I loosen the 8 bolts on the carriage that rides on Y axis to adjust the X axis level. I am going to have to go back and look at some of the instructions again to see if I am doing this wrong. To be honest this is an area I have struggled with and am very much looking forward to the THC to possibly take the leveling out of the equation.

    • @barnbuiltbeaters
      @barnbuiltbeaters Před 2 měsíci

      I am sure you just saw they just released the THC but it is a pretty expensive option that many people probably dont need....maybe you do though. I think the budget friendly option is to build a duplicate Y axis (without the motor) which would keep everything level. The cantilever design is the worst part about the build...much more to be desired. I spent a good amount of time getting mine adjusted. If you tighten it too much, it wont roll. Go to that point and then back it off some. It will never be perfectly level, atleast not from my experience but has not affected cutting much. If you are like me, I do not need my cuts to be perfect, just close. A CNC plasma I use to speed up my fabrication process, not looking for perfection perfectly. Let me know if you need help, I am happy to try! Thanks for watching!

    Why ram frame ? Cummins ?

    • @barnbuiltbeaters
      @barnbuiltbeaters Před 2 měsíci

      A few reasons actually! 1. Ram was the only truck manufacturer to offer coil springs both front and rear. I am thinking this would aid in ride quality 2. Because of the coil springs, the axles are already 4-linked (using that term as a general statement) 3. The axles are already proven to handle the torque of a diesel and that of modified Cummins. I am planning to build my engine up. Although most heavy duty trucks will. 4. Speaking of an engine, I wanted a 12V Cummins as the power plant and although a 12V was never installed in this year chassis, a 6.7 Cummins was and figured it may help with the installation process as 6.7 and 5.9 are very similar. 5. I never thought I would find this chassis (2018+ Ram 2500) that was affordable honestly. I managed to find this pretty local to me for a very reasonable price delivered. I never have fabricated like this before, and figured if I messed up shortening the wheelbase, at least I have the axles I could use or sell to make up the money I spent on the chassis. I realize some will not like it isn't on a Ford Chassis, and although that may have made it easier, I am pretty happy with how my build is turning out. Turns out a bunch of Dentside guys actually swap onto Dodge/Ram chassis, although typically 2nd gen chassis!

      @glenrock672 Před měsícem

      @@barnbuiltbeaters I put a 1/4 turn PVC valve on the drain hole with a 90 elbow pointing down. I drain the water into a 5 gallon bucket after every day of cutting. I do have to lift the pan a little bit to get some of the water out since there is a lip on the drain plumbing. Works great! I don't know what you would do if you didn't have the drain. I mean trying to dump the water without the drain would be a mess as the pan is fairly thin and weak, you have the supports in there and the X axis would be in the way when trying to lift it to drain it . . . love the drain! LOL HIGHLY recommend putting in a drain if you buy a pan without one. With that said, a bottom drain might be better than a side drain . . .

While lifting bed up place a cinder block in bed sliding it in position to get the correct pitch by altering the center of gravity. Our old metal looks nicer, and seems to have made the trip to two thousand twenty three just fine. I see that Case tractor and Toyota have committed to going with hydrogen for our fuel of choice... good for us who use fuel instead of the push for electric plus way cheaper to drive making fuel companies bring prices down. Oh yeah, we will wind up with a gps mileage tax so the government can keep getting their unfair share of taxation. No reason for fuel to be over a dollar a gallon as I remember paying under twenty cents a gallon for fuel in the sixties. It was only a nickel a gallon for diesel at the bulk plant where we fueled the logging trucks at. rigs that only got a whopping two plus miles to the gallon were just fine. No I don't want a rig that you measure feet per gallon like some race car engines. I do like clean air just as much as the next guy and making hydrogen fuel at home is not so hard to do... making a quart of water go several hundred miles to the gallon. Out of the tailpipe comes oxygen and water... cool beans hu?! I did own and drive many ford trucks from the days when it was Just a F with no extra zeros on the tag. F1 through F3 was the numbers then and around the sixties I am guessing it changed to a few zeros to make it sound better I am just guessing. New subscriber now

    I'm a new subscriber and I like what you're doing, to bad you didn't have the frame mounted on a rotisserie when welding it back together, but I'm sure it will be just as strong as the factory weld! Good job!

      Hey thanks for subscribing! A rotisserie would be awesome for welding/body work. However they take up a good chunk of room when not using. I've never really welded anything vertical or upside down so this was a learning experience for me. Turned out good though! Keep watching the body is almost finished being mounted. Waiting on some body mounts in the mail to finish filming/editing the next video!

      It is a YesWelder Ct2050. It does AC/DC TIG, Plasma with built in compressor, has HF start, Pulse TIG, and dual voltage. Lots of nice features typically found on higher end machines but at a fraction of the price. Took a risk but absolutely love it and have convince a few friends to buy YesWelder's MIG machines as well. Honestly seems almost as nice as my old machine, a Miller 210 Syncrowave that I sold to found my shop build. Check them out!

    • @barnbuiltbeaters
      @barnbuiltbeaters Před rokem

      Do you mean pick up the bed from the side rather than the back? You could do that for sure. However, I dont think my hoist goes up high enough. The size of my shop might make it difficult to move the hoist around that way and if you spun the bed 180 around while lifted it would be in the wrong orientation to set on the frame.

    We have a very expensive German-made Mafell Z5Ec Portable Band Saw that was designed [very well] to cut heavy wood timbers up to 12" x 12" in size. As it isn't getting used very much these days, I was thinking that it might make a good candidate for a vertical bandsaw -- for both metal and wood -- but your video seems to exclude it from the metal cutting category. Do you happen to have any thoughts on modifying a wood cutting bandsaw for use as a metal cutter? I've both liked and subscribed, so please keep on making these informative videos.

    • @barnbuiltbeaters
      @barnbuiltbeaters Před rokem

      Wow, that must be a big saw! I looked into converting a wood saw into a metal saw and kind if came to a dead end (within my skill set atleast). You need to drastically slow them down as wood saws spin roughly 10X faster than metal saws. Some people do this with gear reduction and others have done it with VFDs. I believe VFDs work with 3 phase,not sure sorry? Im not experience with VFDs to know what im doing anyways and modifying a gearset to work on a saw seemed like a challenge as well. If you can get a VFD to work, that is probably your best bet as you can control the speed.

    • @barnbuiltbeaters
      @barnbuiltbeaters Před rokem

      Hopefully that helped some! Sorry i cant provide much more help. I was kind of stuck too! Other solution is to sell it and use those funds to buy another saw that will do both. Thanks for the sub and like! This video is outside my normal content. The channel revolves around my truck project. I just needed to make this work to continue!
