We have a very expensive German-made Mafell Z5Ec Portable Band Saw that was designed [very well] to cut heavy wood timbers up to 12" x 12" in size. As it isn't getting used very much these days, I was thinking that it might make a good candidate for a vertical bandsaw -- for both metal and wood -- but your video seems to exclude it from the metal cutting category. Do you happen to have any thoughts on modifying a wood cutting bandsaw for use as a metal cutter? I've both liked and subscribed, so please keep on making these informative videos.

Wow, that must be a big saw!
I looked into converting a wood saw into a metal saw and kind if came to a dead end (within my skill set atleast). You need to drastically slow them down as wood saws spin roughly 10X faster than metal saws. Some people do this with gear reduction and others have done it with VFDs. I believe VFDs work with 3 phase, not sure sorry? Im not experience with VFDs to know what im doing anyways and modifying a gearset to work on a saw seemed like a challenge as well.
If you can get a VFD to work, that is probably your best bet as you can control the speed.

Hopefully that helped some! Sorry i cant provide much more help. I was kind of stuck too!
Other solution is to sell it and use those funds to buy another saw that will do both.
Thanks for the sub and like!
This video is outside my normal content. The channel revolves around my truck project. I just needed to make this work to continue!

Thanks! Been looking for someone to confirm this would work. How do you like the WEN so far?

It has been working pretty good for me! The 5" throat has gotten me a few times. Wish it was a bit bigger but I've just had to work around it. For the price, I can't complain too much.
I have had blades break on me a few times. Not entirely sure why that is. I don't believe I am putting too much pressure tightening or pushing material through. I just swapped blade manufacturers and this blade seems to be holding up well. Let me know if you have any questions!
