    Arrived on the 17th, came just to watch and photograph the Ironman. Staying in Matagorda so a perfect view of the marathon. Also went to the beach to see the swimming. Weather has been glorious so far I have to say. I know you've done the Ironman Mike, having seen it for myself, wow that is some achievement. Crazy amount of fitness and dedication required. Sorry, your article about holiday lets is a little misleading & disingenuous as you are advertising holiday villa rentals on your own website. This in itself is not in support of local residents who are unable to find / rent local affordable housing as holiday rentals take these properties off the market & drives up the prices.. it’s difficult to support a channel that’s not transparent

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation Před 13 dny

      Not sure what you mean when you say our article about holiday lets. Let me know which article you mean, and I'll have a look at it to see what's misleading about it, and of course, we'll change it. But to your general point, if you follow our channel and read our website, you'll see that I agree with you. The issue we have with over tourism has been caused by the massive increase in properties being holiday let on the island since 2017 - a time when the number of hotel beds has actually fallen. I'm fully supportive of a sensible letting law which limits holiday rentals to no more than 10% of the housing stock in the resorts, and that's the plan with the legislation currently in draft, which also needs to address the issue of all the illegal holiday lets here. We're perfectly transparent - we've been allowing owners to advertise their properties for years and will continue to do so, for those who are legal. And in the same way, we also have a travel agency and sell package holidays in hotels here and elsewhere.

    • @user-cw2kk7kh4s
      @user-cw2kk7kh4s Před 10 dny

      With all due respect Mike, your own sister channel has Holiday rentals advertising, this clearly carries a revenue for you. How ever, any holiday rental takes property off the open market, this drives up prices and reduces homes available to rent for local residents.. ALL the Holiday rental companies have an excuse & claim it’s the others that need to stop doing it. But you can not on the one hand, claim to support locals in reducing holiday rentals, and on the other hand advertising Holiday rentals 🤷🏼‍♂️ leave the holiday rentals to the Hotels and Holiday complexes like it always used to be….its just greedy people trying to make a fast buck.. Having spent the last 3 weeks in Lanzarote it’s very clear who’s to blame for the problems the island is suffering, greedy Hotel owners who don’t want to pay a decent wage, and corrupt government officials on the take. After all, who in their right mind lets a developer build another hotel when there’s so much derelict building sites around.. 💁🏻‍♂️

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation Před 10 dny

      We don't have a "Sister channel." You're a bit all over the place. The issue is "Greedy hotel owners?" Or is it "Corrupt government officials?" Perhaps it's "ALL the Holiday rental companies?" I disagree with you, based on 24 years experience of living here and running businesses here - I don't think our politicians these days are corrupt, but I'd welcome any evidence you have. None of the hotel owners I know are greedy, and many are still paying back eye watering loans from the pandemic. As I said in my first reply, we have fewer hotel beds here than we had in 2017, and yet we have had a massive increase in tourism. That's obviously come from holiday lets - some illegal and some legal. We can solve several problems by removing the illegal ones and putting a cap on the numbers of legal ones. Reducing the number of beds in holiday lets by 10% would get us back to 2017 numbers, and release property for long letting or for others to purchase as a home. Does that make sense? The suggestion that we, or any other advertising platform should unilaterally stop allowing legally registered property owners to advertise is ridiculous, Kim, especially as the numbers we have are a drop in the ocean compared to the big platforms. The problem is that too many have been given VV licences in the the last few years - another 252 was registered LAST MONTH alone. This is something that needs to be changed by legislation, not by me pulling the rug out from the people doing something they are legally allowed to. Where I stand at the moment is that I do support reducing the overall number of tourists on the island, because I think it will make life better for both those of us who live here, but also for our tourists. We currently have just over 100 properties advertised by owners on our website, and we also run a travel agency. I'm sure if numbers do go down, we'll lose revenue from both. It's a price I'm more than happy to pay.

      ‘ LANZAROTE NEWS ‘ CZcams & LANZAROTE INFORMATION website ( sister site ) . Your last paragraph confirms my comments regarding double standards. And as I have already mentioned, every home owner villa owner apartment owner will have their own excuse as to why he / she should continue letting and it’s everyone else’s fault.. 35 years ago when we started visiting Lanzarote there was virtually no private rentals, it was a lovely place to visit, wow how it’s changed 😱 Government corruption is in every country without exception, and what’s going on in the canary’s proves that very point, it’s also the opinion of all ( without exception ) every indigenous person we speak to while visiting the island every year..
