- In this week's Lanzarote news, we talk about protest March (The Canaries have a limit,) which took place last weekend, a brilliant new "Urban library" idea, Lanzarote wines and the cheese that has been named the best in Spain.
We also answer the "Tourist tax" question, and the bus driver's strike.

Love the weekly news updates, have subscribed. Looking forward to our visit in September
I own a home on a RESIDENTIAL complex , however some owners advertise their homes as holiday let’s for more money , It’s been an argument for years here that this is illegal as we are not a TOURIST complex . Long term rentals for local families/workers are accepted ,so the cabildo need to take action against such owners instead of doing nothing .
Thanks Mike, very informative and well arranged, keep up the good work.
Thank you!
I agree once over built on they ruin the islands. Affordable housing for locals is essential. Love the local wine & cheese.
Thanks Mike
Enjoying this channel...thanks
My wife and I love the local wine and food. Yes lanzarote is not anti tourist its just the lack of affordable housing for the people who work in the service sector.
Regard chis uk.
Fantastic and extremely informative commentary of what's happening in Lanzarote. Keep it coming❤
We also chuckle every time we see a Lanzarote Intercity bus!
This is a failure of the government to provide for the people there. Usual story. Now the tourists are the convenient scapegoat. I love Lanzarote. I'm not a drinker (I'm an eater though😂). I go long walks away from the beaten path and find the island absolutely breathtaking. I hope this is the kick up the arse needed to provide for local families. ❤
Love from the UK.. I just like to listen to your news…
Love the passion it comes through 😊
Grate vlog
Thanks for the informative update as always Mike 🤣😊
Appreciate your videos and the work you put into them..question…3G 4G 5G very poor in the north , north eastern part of the island…why??…and is it likely to change any time soon?
Currently in Costa Teguise, our hotel has a book case absolutely crammed with books on a help yourself basis, must be similar in all resorts.
Tourist tax, the Balearic Islands have been charging a tax for years with little impact on numbers holidaying there, hopefully the tax revenue is used correctly.
Affordable housing is a problem in the UK too, particularly in tourist areas like Cornwall and Devon,
👍👍👍
Wonder how many work in the tourism industry?
Most of them.
Why don't the government buy up the run down building outside costa tequise and make it local only accommodation
They have to wait until the court cases regarding those plots have run their course, and then they can.
The British press are still saying dint go cancel your hols your not welcome Mike .i tell you the British media are pure scum ,we are coming out on 20 may for 2 weeks to Costa teguise .a beautiful island with beautiful people we adore Lanzarote
Totally agree anti British news media spreading bs ,to suit their agenda . BBC and SKY news biggest culprits.
The Tourist Tax will end up the same as Road Tax over here i,e after a very short while only a tiny percentage of the tax will actually be spent on the ecosystem. Never trust a government or politicians no matter what pat of the globe they are from.
As I said in the video, there are no plans to introduce a tourist tax here.
@@LanzaroteInformation fingers crossed that this is the case Mike. Love your Saturday videos, by the way. Always enjoy watching them with a mug of coffee on a Saturday morning
The whole tourism thing is utter rubbish
