- In 2025, visitors from outside the EU, will need a visa waiver called ETIAS to come on holiday to Lanzarote, or any other country in the Schengen area.
We explain how it all works, why it's being done, how much it costs, and everything else you need to know.

hey Mike very helpful info would love more of these type of videos very well explained in Plain English ;-)
Thank you, and we're on it!
Useful video. Thanks Mike
Thanks for explaining that. Useful to know.
Cheers Mike. It’s just another layer of bureaucracy as airlines know passengers passport details, names, addresses and contact information etc. Would make more sense to agree to share this with border control and ultimately create ‘tourist channels’ to clear immigration at both EU and UK airports. ACE also need to allow families to use the electronic gates rather than queuing unnecessarily.
I see it as reducing the bureaucracy. We visited India in November and immigration took hours while they checked criminal databases, fingerprints and goodness knows what else before we were allowed in. The Visa waiver system does all that background stuff beforehand and then grants you three years of being able to come and go as you please. UK is coming up with a very similar scheme called ETA.
@@LanzaroteInformation All I’m saying Mike is that the airlines could work with border control to share the information they already hold. On the upside if they are going to potentially stop certain people with criminal records, Tenerife should be much quieter 🤣
Thanks Mike, read in the UK press that fingerprints will be taken from autumn this year for non Schengen visitors in addition to the EES, is this just another load of ‘click bait’?
We were n Lanzarote last week, went through the EES terminals on the way in, on the way out our passports were scanned by the border officers, no hold up though.
Thanks for info
Hi , when we went to Lanzarote last month, we saw the EES scanners but , like a lot of familys with kids, we had queue up and pass through the old fashioned way and say hi to the 2 members of lanzarotes border control as they manually checked our passports. You can imagine the queue was quite long . we were told that children under 18 could not use the scanners? However on the way out, there was no such restriction and my 14 year old used the scanner and again when we arrived in the UK she was able to use the scanner at Gatwick. Do you know if there is any good reason why she couldn't use the EES scanner going into the island?
There's no age limit on the scanners - I can only think there was something like a software update going on the day you came through.
Agree. We have never been allowed to use the EES scanners since they were first installed and our two are teenagers.
@@LanzaroteInformation Hi Again, I have done a little research and it seems that there are indeed age limits on the eGates. In the UK it has recently been changed from 12 to 10 but in spain it is actually 18. Different countries have different age limits. Looks like I will be queuing for Lanzarote for another 4 years unless Spain changes the law.
@@mickjefford1285 The reality is, with everyone without children using the E Gates, the immigration desks should be able to process those with kids very quickly.
How does it work flying from Northern Ireland with an Irish passport?
You don't need a visa waiver if you are travelling on an Irish passport.
Big problem with the ETIAS is that they are not giving an exact start date. I'm reading sometime in May of 2025. Sources are saying to get your ETIAS approval before booking your trip. A lot of people book their trips about a year in advance before flights and/or hotels get sold out. May of 2025 is one year away, and applications are not even being accepted yet. Too risky to book your trip without the ETIAS approval first. Book your trip, get denied ETIAS approval and not get a full refund, if any refund at all. And ETIAS is good for 3 years? If you book your trip 9 months ahead of time after getting approved, it's more like 2+ years, instead of a full 3 years. And so many people are unaware of ETIAS. Word needs to get out, or a lot of people are going to be sad at the airport check-in. I've heard about a grace period. But, I don't understand it. And why is ETIAS needed? Unless I'm mistaken, you can't legally have a US Passport if you're a convicted felon.
For the vast majority of visitors to Lanzarote there won't be any issue getting an ETIAS, and even if, for some reason, they are denied, then just like the ESTA for visitors to the US, they will be able to apply for a visa. Realistically, the only people who are likely to be denied both are serial criminals and terrorists.
Will you need ETIAS if you are on a cruise?
well i would say yes as on cruises to US you needed the ESTA in certain stop offs
Yes, if you're calling into European ports.
What’s happens to over 70 year olds regarding the ETIAS?
My undertanding is that if your over 70 registering for ETIAS is free.
It's in the video. Those under 18 and over 70 still need to complete the form and obtain an ETIAS, but it will be free of charge.
It's a shame Britain doesn't stop undesirables arriving. In going abroad for 35 years have never had my passport stamped.
You can’t have travelled far. Our British passports are full of stamps. The UK is following suit with the EU on this. Theirs is going to be called an ETA.
@@LanzaroteInformation Algarve, Canaries and spain approx 3 times a year. Always wanted them to have stamps. Didn't travel 2021 and 2022.
