New horizons is a doll house. You decorate it and place animals/items around but can't interact with anything. The animals are shells, the events/holidays are lamer, just boring. It's for Uber casuals at this point. Would be great if animal crossing GCN source code got leaked and people could just improve on it.

New Horizons just feels... fake. I'm not sure how better to describe it, but it just doesn't FEEL good.

great video and glad to see you mention how acnh kind of loses the point of the other games because its super personal to me *because* it gets that feeling of being in a new place with no friends or real control down so well while still being lighthearted. the fact that you are put into an already established place with no control and then are able to connect with the people who live there and see the town grow is what makes it good to me. but in new horizons everyone is in this new place, nothing pre established, and you are put in full control of everything almost right away. which could have been a good opportunity to have some upgrades for long term gameplay but there was just.. nothing. you're given everything right away and all the focus gets taken away from the point of the og games by having uninteresting characters who are in just as new of a situation as you are. okay sorry for yapping animal crossing is so personal to me and i'm very passionate about it. awesome video

you're absolutely spot on with describing the game as a sandbox. i've always said it feels like the sims with an animal crossing appearance, build and decorate however you want but that's it really. and me personally, ive never really been interested with decorating, so being limited to a house was fine for me in older games. now idk what the fuck to do on my island, it's all just eh . it feels so empty and lonely with nothing around you too - just an island in the middle of nowhere

It sucks. I really want to go back to NL but I just can't get acclimated to the old gameplay (plus the lack of online now)... Like, both of these games have features that I want in the other, lol. For example: New Leaf has the better furniture, but New Horizons has the better decorating options. Or New Leaf has the better Gyroids (don't @ me) but New Horizons allows us to put them on stools and hang them on walls (literally one of my biggest dreams lol)

Trivia. *Ninja Master's* the last fighting made by Alpha Denshi/ADK, was originally going to be a spin off of World Heroes. With an aging Hanzo Hattori as the protagonist. Kotaro Fuuma was also going to appear. Ranmaru and Nobunaga were still going to be the bosses. Sasuke Sarutobi and Yukimura Sanada were going to be secret bosses. What a shame that Ninja Master's wasn't a success. It was released in 1996, it ended up in the shadow of The King of Fighters 96 and Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 2 😔 I would have liked to see Ninja Master's characters in Samurai Shodown. My favorite characters were Karasu, Natsume and Kasumi.

There is one thing really interesting is that the character Ryoko Izumo was also rip-offed to create a "Fighter's History"s character named Ryoko Kano, both of which are based on Olympic gold medalist Ryoko Tani.

The year is 2042, the newest installment in the animal crossing series has just been released! "Ugly" villagers have been removed from the game. You have complete control over what villagers live in your town, no villager can move in or out of your town without your permission. All villagers have the same "nice" personality. Weeds no longer exist. Zero consequence for aggressive time travel or long absence. Turnips are only ever profitable, no chance of losing money. I was really excited for NH when it got announced, but hearing more about it and watching other people play i decided not to buy it, it doesn't seem like Animal Crossing to me. I thought the dialogue was pretty bad in NL I can't believe NH is worse, i swear ive had my current town for nearly 2 years and my villagers tell me about bell rocks and stacking fruit. And I constantly get the same dialogue.

probably a way to cope, but i always liked to think the acnh villagers are all so nice to you just because you're the one put in charge and have power over everything about them (where they live, whether they can leave). basically they're sucking up and talking shit behind ur back

I'm good at ranting about things I don't like so time to list probably a good amount of the things I don't like in the game and most of them being stuff that's already been said. 1: the villagers are boring as hell. like you said they feel like a decoration and it doesn't motivate you to interact with them at all and it's sad because this is supposed to be a life simulator / social game and the NPCs you get are boring as hell to interact with and repetitive. and like plenty of people have said online that in New leaf they could spend a week a week talking to NPCs or one day talking to one NPC and not get repetitive dialogue meanwhile in ACNH dear God you'll talk to one of your Islanders and there's a good chance they're going to say something you already heard yesterday. and speaking of Islanders this then leads to the second one. 2: the villagers personalities have been boiled down significantly. I really liked how all of the villagers in New leaf is how they all felt very different from one another in how they acted and spoke and in acnh all of them feel really similar and like you said to instantly like the player even when they've just met and also I've heard people say that cranky rude villagers are still instantly nice to the player even though that contradicts how their personality was in the previous games. 3: you can't upgrade shops. this was already mentioned but I really hate this since you only get five furniture slots at nook's cranny and most of the time the furniture they have is really repetitive. 4: the lack of shops and shop owners. it just feels more dull and less homey feeling that there's barely any shops and shop owners and all the other shops and owners are just stuck at Harv's Island and get a camper and that's it and it's also annoying because you have to completely drop what you're doing and go fly over there to maybe do one thing instead of it just being on your Island AND ALSO HOW YOU HAVE TO PAY $100,000 TO OPEN EACH ONE. 5: so many furniture sets have been removed or completely replaced with crafted knock-offs. this really infuriates me since from when I first started the game I was absolutely obsessed with the regal and rococo furniture set aren't in the game which made me really upset but also annoyed because now I have to completely improvise using the elegant series which just doesn't feel the same. it's just annoying since I wasn't expecting so many furniture series to be just removed or replaced and also the same goes for wallpaper and flooring too. 6: crafting and cooking. I honestly feel neutral about it but it's annoying as hell trying to gather resources for crafting especially early game and also especially once you start decorating your Island and you don't have a whole lot of open space for sticks or rocks to naturally spawn and also how for crafting and cooking you can't just select how many you want to make based on the resources you have you have to make them all individually which is extremely time consuming and boring. oh yeah and like how you said really the only way you get DIY recipes is from other villagers DEPENDING ON THE VILLAGERS YOU HAVE WHICH IS REALLY ANNOYING. 7: Island designer. I really like the freedom that creative designer gives us but it's also insanely time-consuming and also quite annoying. also the cleanup feature sucks since unless it's in your immediate radius it won't do anything and it only works on trees and fences.... (might just be me) 8: how museum displays work. I absolutely hate how if you want to know about a certain bug or fish and etc you have to have it on you and take it to blathers and not on a plaque like they did in New leaf and probably games before it and it's annoying because they do that for art and for fossils I think but not for bugs and fish. (might just be me) 9: how more rarer bugs and fish are basically impossible to find now. like Jesus I'll be looking around my Island for probably an hour looking for a emperor butterfly and only find one if I'm lucky and maybe it's so people can't exploit it but it's just annoying how more of the rare bugs and fish are basically impossible to find now. also I wish you could release them in your house since that would be cool or be able to customize their container and give them a habitat or something. 10: in my opinion everything is too reliant on Miles. I hate how so many things and features have to be purchased with miles which obviously get much and much harder to get as you progress in the game. 11: the tropical island and mini games to get medals aren't in the game. instead kappn or whoever is just demoted to being some Island tour guy that let's be honest how often do players use ? and also how mermaid furniture is insanely hard to craft and even get the recipe for I think. 12: shooting stars and zodiac furniture. first shooting stars..... they're quite rare and you just have to stand there looking at the sky for minutes and hours before you maybe even see one and also how old is zodiac furniture relies on you being able to see and make a wish on a shooting stars to get star fragments which is hard enough and then you also have to get gold... WHICH YOU RARELY EVER GET and it's annoying that if you don't check your Beach the coming morning you wished on shooting stars to get star fragments they instantly despawn and there's your time wasted... 13: you're in control of basically everything but you're not the mayor and how it's a little bit much. like you said it doesn't make it feel like a life simulator anymore and more like a sandbox and it just gives me this unsettling feeling that I can control and dictate everything that happens and all of it just feels like a little bit too much for it being still in the animal crossing series and not a type of spin-off and I liked how your Island would never exactly be perfect and you would always have a villager or two you didn't really care for and etc but it was still fun and your home and you couldn't bulldoze it to build and mold it in your image and in this one it encourages you to completely bulldoze destroy and kick out everyone and everything you don't like to build it in your image. 14: the lack of events or events being much more dulled down and boring. the bug off and fish off feel more boring in my opinion and I have a feeling holiday events like April fools Christmas Halloween and etc aren't the same either and also how you'd have random events like Isabel celebrating the summer solstice aren't there anymore. 15: the villagers just being one-dimensional. they're repetitive boring and uninteresting. I've only played New leaf but the villagers in New leaf actually had requests wanted to come over to your house and you could set a time and had very specific dialogue that was unique to them and they were just generally more interesting to learn about and talk to as where the villagers in acnh you can basically take one look at them or one interaction with them and instantly know everything about them. like one of my Islanders cookie and one look and interaction with her and you already know her whole character is a very one-dimensional lively pop girl and it's just sad since now so many players have just become uninterested in their favorite villagers because of this and one of my favorite villagers is Diana the deer and fuchsia the deer and it makes me sad now knowing they're both watered down dull and uninteresting. and also the letters they send you are like this too and you just find yourself instantly throwing them out. and time for some smaller nitpicks. the hourly change in music isn't really there anymore and doesn't fit the mood and feels nostalgic and that was one thing I really loved about New leaf meanwhile in acnh you just kind of have the same music 24/7 but slightly different and also more annoying and boring to listen to as it goes on in my opinion. the villagers just barging into your house at the worst times since I'm about to decorate my house or leave and they just run in uninvited and interrupt what I'm doing but at least after 20 seconds it does give you the option to ask them to leave. you can only order five items on the catalog which I find annoying. the villagers constantly running up to you or sending you the most random stuff in the mail. I find it slightly annoying how I'm just minding my business and then tumbra or Whitney or cookie or Celia just run up or send me some random thing in the mail. I'm pretty sure they did this in New leaf but they do it a lot more frequently in acnh. and the final one. you only get like 10 or 12 color slots when you're making a custom design which is really annoying and I think New leaf had more than acnh does. and I do believe that is it and like I said I'm good at ranting. I wouldn't say the game is bad I still feel like it's good and it was just a surprise for the players that were expecting the more nostalgic legacy aspects and feelings to it and I feel like those of us who were expecting animal crossing New horizons to be like that would have liked a remaster of new leaf or something like that. and also how it feels like the game probably had some cash grab aspect factored into it considering how a lot of things just aren't in the game or have been watered down. and also I just really miss the nostalgic feeling of New leaf and comfort as where this one feels more like an empty shell of what animal crossing is to a degree.

my mom bought me and my sister animal crossing New horizons after seeing a lot of marketing priding itself in being multiplayer and stuff like that just for all of us to find out the multiplayer online feature sucks. it restricts you from doing literally everything and and the two most stupid ones I've seen is that you can't change a custom design or order off the catalog while someone's there. it's annoying as hell because not only would it drive players away from using multiplayer and online services but it really sucks for those of us who would like help customizing and building their Island or helping pick up furniture and other items. like Jesus at this point I'm surprised it even allows my sister to go into my house considering she basically can't do anything besides just walk around and again if it insanely restricts the host and a guest from basically doing anything at all what's the point in even using it ?

I played all the localized Animal Crossing games when they came out and Wild World was extremely formative to me with it being portable and having Wifi connectivity. I agree with all your points. Man, one day I leveled my NH town and started building some plans I had and it took 9 hours with little to show for it. I think that broke me. I was enjoying the social aspect because quarantine, but terraforming tedium was the straw that broke the camel's back. Your footage is so lush and gorgeous, it's truly one of the best looking Switch games. But I have no desire to open it ever again. Is it a bad game? No. But it doesn't have anything for me.

I would like to see a next video about "WTF is Samurai Shodown" or "WTF is Art of Fighting" It would be interesting to see.

I started playing the Animal Crossing series for the first time last month with New Horizons. Compared to the older games, it feels a bit synthetic, like many newer versions of long-running franchises, trying to appeal to everyone. The dialogue seems heartless and robotic, as if the creators are just going through the motions to meet a quota. Depressing.

There’s something intimate about the older games, for me new leaf, where I don’t feel like I have to make my town “look good” or compare with other people’s. There was something private and genuinely joyful about logging on and seeing your community. It felt like a second life. New horizons is great for creativity, but it has none of the soul and coziness of the old games. It’s just never going to compare in that respect.

I started Animal Crossing with the Gamecube, played WW and then came back for New Horizons, and I have to say I found it unfulfilling. It's cute and there's a lot to enjoy, but the main appeal for Animal Crossing for me was that feeling of being a stranger and integrating into a new place that kept going with or without you. The fact that I arrive on this island and almost immediately am named God-Emperor of the island kind of put me off, especially since the world is effectively static (aside from weeds and cockroaches) without my intervention. I liked how being absent for a while meant you could come back to new faces and a shift in the layout of the town's homes. It had that feeling of coming back to your childhood home after living away for so long and seeing how everything had changed (or one of the other places I used to live; I'm a bit of a rolling stone), but that feeling was replaced by full control, and dreamies, and enacting eugenics on your populace. Not that I think the people who enjoy the games as they are now are wrong (except the eugenics, please do less eugenics), and I don't think a new entry should alienate them, but it doesn't scratch the same itch as the older games, which is a shame. It'd be nice if we could have a choice of the level of control we're given.

Insane enough, I met my husband through NH! I poured thousands of hours into my island during quarantine, and it's how I meet the most important friends I still have to this day. For all of it's weird, quicky, boring faults, this game will always have a special place in my heart. I haven't played in years at this point and I'm not sure I ever really will, but my husband and I plan on growing turnips in our old age <3

Very good video, I felt totally identified. I'm glad veteran new leaf players are thinking about this and somehow reviving the game. The same thing happened to me with New Horizons, at first I thought that I just couldn't get used to it because I couldn't leave behind the nostalgia that New Leaf had left me and I simply left the game out for 3 years, now I played it again and it interested me more since I lost my game of new leaf a while ago and I'm enjoying the game, but you no longer feel that emotional connection that you had with your neighbors in new leaf. Thank you, you made my day.

The reason why the New horizon villagers have such a flat personality. is because people were upset that the GameCube villagers were so mean.

The thing is, I don’t think New Horizons is necessarily a *bad* game. It’s just a completely different game from the others, which is what makes it a little odd
