- With the advent of the Boss Challenge mode in KOF XV, a lot of people were excited to get bosses on the same level as the classic Neo Geo quarter pinchers. Rugal was criticized for being too easy, but how does Goenitz fare?

Rugal was boring asf. I beat him with Ryo before he became really good. It took me 3 tries to beat him. But at least he matched his strength like he did in the lore.

In-lore, he's the one who gave Rugal the Orochi power and why he only has one eye, and keep in mind, Goenitz was just a young adult then.
It was Goenitz who plucked out Rugal's eyes.
He was a fresh 18 year old I believe...

Hey, it's just faithful to the original Goenitz fight; nigh-impossible legitimately, but you can cheese him with a character!
You can also win legitimately, but you have to react really fast.

The original Goenitz wasn't so hard, at least in my experience. The trick was surprisingly easy: take characters with good movility and air strong kick and sweep of good reach both (Leona, Kim...) and keep jumping with kick and sweeping him, trying not to fall behind him if he dashes forward, because then he would Yamidoukoku you (grab you with the DM).

No. That's classic coin-eatig Goenitz Boss Syndrom. Right in KoF'96, his first appearance he could do the Yamidoukoku (the grab DM) without any meter. And nowaday SNK decided to keep it to its roots to our despair.

I actually ended up getting luck with my initial team of Heidern/Shingo/Vanessa, and then again with Ash/Leona/Rock. There were some key things that I noticed where it makes it easier to get hits on him.
-His level ones, command grab included, are beatable with charge reversals on reaction. Leona, Heidern, and Ash can turtle and get consistent damage against those, his overhead, and jump-ins.
-He gets hit with projectiles about 50% of the time, and faster ones can punish his turning multislash.
-At the end of blocking his rekka, you can punish with most characters' standing HP, leading to a pretty standard combo. I was able to get pretty consistent HP => f.LP => Special => Lvl 1 => Lvl 3 with Rock and Vanessa.
-Raw level 3 will actually work a lot of the times if you input it during the screen freeze. You can anticipate it because he goes for his command grab super after his command dash most of the time.
-That unblockable super eats your health, but you can get out of his range for it most of the time if you roll backwards as soon as it starts. The projectile afterwards can always be rolled through, just make sure you roll forwards. It goes fast enough to where you actually have a pretty good sized window.
He's definitely a hard boss, but I don't think he's quite as insurmountable as a lot of people initially thought. In the event that you change your mind and come back to him, I hope you have fun!

From what I have seen in my poor attempts against him:
He has unlimited meter like he does in KOF96.
He uses less projectiles attacks like he did in KOF98 UM.
His special moves have some priority or are invincible.
Has a vaccum super that is unblockable and can be dodge when it is thrown.
His AI is more of a combo rushdown fiend.

The vacuum super being his "Boss super" obviously and if you avoid the vacuum but block the followup... youre eating a guaranteed guard break

In Japanese his name is indeed pronounced Geh-nitz, but the "oe" spelling suggests that the dev might have intended for that part to represent the German "oe" (or ö), which is also always transliterated as an "eh" sound in Japanese

I used Heidern, Leona and Shermie...and cheesed the fact he loves to use jump ins so I could score free hits with their V Slasher specials...but sometimes he won't do that and do other things that I won by the skin of my teeth with Shermie had a magic pixel of life and he jsut knock me down...luckily he tried to approach me on wake up to try and poke me...luckily he can't win against a command grab, so one Ex Command Grab into a low kick follow up and I won...yeah never playing that again

I eventually beat him after like 50 tries with Shermie, Clark, and Rugal. I basically figured out that he doesn't like command grabs, and then Rugal full-screen punishes all of his ranged attacks with his Level 1 super. Took a while, but it felt REALLY good when I finally beat him.
First off.... Sorry you had to suffer through that.
Also, I have to admit that this is great. It would seem that SNK was insulted when people complained that O.Rugal was too easy, and took that as a challenge.

If the game will bring Bosses in order the next one will be Orochi, and he should be easier. Although if they are gonna follow the story, the next one will be Krizalid(hopefully).
Orochi should be harder, not easier.
Krizalid is the start of the NEST saga so orochi will come first but definitely will be the next one

27 years ago, he effortlessly destroyed me & my friends and PTSD remains to this day!
I beat him with Haohmaru, Terry and Rugal and again with Haoh, Terry and King. I played defense the entire time. Wasn't foolproof but he hates DP's and Supers that hit low.
I guess I'll try again sometime using lots of DPs. He did seem to fall for power geyser a few times

Don't feel bad man, I had to cheese him too. But it was no where near as easy at that. I learned he doesn't move when you charge Kyo s punch. So I had to somehow get his health low enough with just enough gauge to do five charge punches
Geonitz is a pretty powerful character lore wise so its definitely making sense

Now all they have to do is make the trials harder and we are back in business boys!
As someone who probably contributed 10 cents worth of views to your channel, here is my 10 cents worth of opinion: the fact that Iori & Leona don't have their riot forms in boss challenge yet is a missed opportunity. Also they should buff Rugal's AI to match this energy.

Absolutely loved the commentary while fighting Goenitz😂😂😂Exactly my reactions when trying to beat him. Finally won with K’, Kim, Maxima.
I couldnt find a way to win for awhile but eventually found iori/rugal/rock could win for me. If you space him out about one jump lengths away and use light fireball he jumps at you about 90% of the time and you can dp it for free damage. I just would loop it for as long as i could until he died
After Goenitz, Orochi himself will be the next boss challenge.
We have the Orochi team Yashiro, Shermie & Chris. We have Omega Rugal, & know Goenitz the four heavenly Kings of Orochi

it took an entire evening, but i manage to beat him with Geese only. For Xst sake... he's insane..
When i booted it up and saw his intro and he hit me with that "The time for confession has passed". I knew i was in trouble. 5 hours later, still havent beaten him🤣
To be honest, I did find a way to "cheese" him, but it was an honest cheese, armored command grabs on react/read will help a ton (any grappler with armored grabs, personally really liked Clarks), being defensive and knowing when/how to slip a sweep, some crouching jabs or a dp (almost any character can do this one), and leaving a character with fullscreen supers in last while saving the 5 bars for them (both Maxima and Rugal work fine, one is mid risk mid reward, the other is high risk high reward, personally went for Rugal), and well, just use them to counter his moves in order to get as much "free" (you still need to make the reads and react) damage, took me about 1 hour and a half to get to this after trying with around 15 different characters and strats, once I got the right team, knew what and how to do it, it was a first try with a perfect with the last character and one extra bar of super, it is definitely "fair" if you invest the time and know enough about the roster, so yeah... I loved it, hope the next one (If there's a next one) has a similar difficulty, ALSO almost forgot to mention, he has an "alternative" version of himself when he wears the red outfit, where... he's kind of even harder to beat and is a lot more rushdown focused, how much he uses his zoner tools depend completely on the character you choose, he will most likely zone you if you pick a zoner, because he can easily outzone you, you can try this using Athena or Ash, they get kokudeska to death (sometimes hitting triple tornados at once)
The big invincible jumping slash can be punished if you block it, as well as the 2nd hit of his rekka on block

To escape the big succ super backdash 1-2 times depending on distance, 3 if you are close but its dangerous then roll through the tornado, be careful tho, he can mix the speed of the final tornado from delay start to immediately just flying out the gate, so you have to react to that

I just developed counterplay to everyone of his moves.

After losing 50 times straight, I gave up lol.
I passed Geonitz! How much joy and pleasure! Two days of sweating and swearing.
I chose Terry first and beat ←↙↓ HK + ↓↘→HK. If the first part of the bundle was successful, it is better to retreat. If the first part went to the block, the second part will just get a counter strike, since the boss will want to hit you.
The second one I chose was Isla. Did a jump ←← ↓↘→ HK. Against this technique, the bos fell, and then started a whirlwind. Then I struck again, continuing the same way (but the boss can start virtuoso, then as lucky).
The third is Omega Scolded, finished off with a super ↓↘→ ↓↘→ HP+HK.

Man, I´ve always been a casual Fighting Games player, and O. Rugal was a Challenge for me (like 8 or 10 times to defeat him), but this is just ridiculous.
I understand that the FGC thought that Rugal was easier than before, they are more competitive and have more experience, but this take the level of 1 to 10 between them.
I love what they did with the man xD
I'd love them them to make even cheaper version, because he is acttually manageable once you learn him. I want a super cheap cheesie version xD
Now I want them to update Rugal up to that level of unfair.
P.S. 96' Goenitz wasn't really a zoning monster people for some reason remember him to be. He was zoning you and was able to combo you with his windshields, but his cheapness came from ridiculous range super grab that he would use on you all the time from rolls, dashes, teleports, on wake and even as you close in to hit him.

I beat Omega Rugal and this guy back to back... haven't played much of 15 since it came out, but have some extensive experience with older KoF games at a mid player level... had not played the game since the Rugal update but never attempted the actual Boss Challenge. Rugal took me about less than 10 fights with B.Jenet, Yamazaki & Sylvie... the team I want to play with long term since Sylvie's release & the cross play patch dropping.
Goenitz tho... took me like 2 hours of malding. My saving grace was Yamazaki's counter, you can sort of get him on a counter hitting loop if you time it right on every single one of his wake ups, don't do it too early because Goenitz will input read you and sit in front of you until the end of your animation to destroy you... also the tornado from a far super you can partially block it and guard cancel roll past it for almost no damage, or just time react roll through it when he sends it out which can vary the timing when Goenitz CPU decides to throw it at you... or I noticed just 2-3 different timings. Well... did it, and never went back. I was thinking of switching teams or look up a strat but stuck to it because of stubbornness and because I started noticing the Yamazaki counter strat working.
Just wait til they bring back Orochi/Murochi I know he’s a pain in the ass with his ranged attacks
I still think Max Igniz was tougher than this

I beat him in a little over 10 tries using grapplers, I lucked out, dealt most damage with Maxima and O.Yashiro, he has a couple of gaps on the AI against them, didn't know or try the Isla method it's much more effective than what I did.
