    11:46 How come the islands (besides Pyronesia) weren’t initially populated by their own invasions of land? They were around in the time period covered in part 4 Quote at 11:46 : "None of the mainland clades will have had any presence on these landmasses, since they evolved after these islands were already separated, so everything that comes to live there will have had to disperse there from elsewhere"

    I think it's important to talk about one specific idea that was suggested in this video, around 1:31:04. racism is NOT natural, at least for the modern understanding of "racism". racism is not mere ethnically motivated prejudice, racism is a huge social structure that was very much invented by, and is maintained by, a select group of people for economic reasons. it exists as a way to divide people and target a specific group that can be exploited for profit without huge backlash. racism towards black people in particular was invented because slave owners needed to find a reason to explain to the general public that what they were doing was moral and not insanely evil, since slavery was so profitable. yes, that's right, racism came after slavery. today, racism is used primarily to justify inequality and distract people from real issues with real culprits. medieval and older societies didn't have the concept of racism. people might have been afraid of the unknown and a few would mistreat others based on skin color, but most of them were actually really curious and would love to hear the stories from foreigners' lands, since that would be entirely new to them. if anything, historical and current evidence shows that humans have a very natural tendency to cooperate, and empathy towards even those who look different is a big part of that.

    I have the theory that classic grey aliens arent actually aliens, but humans of some lost but advanced human civilization that at one point left earth and adapted to zero g. Kind of like the asteromorphs. That would at least explain why every supposed ufo encounter where one of them was tested mentions they have nearly human dna.

    I'd live to see an April fool's episode of this series in which you explain the bizarrely contrived environmental changes that lead one or more species to 'evolve' into being indistinguishable from humans, thereby 'completing' evolution on the planet.

    Watching this last episode I had to come to term with two things: The first is how different the Paleotectons are from us. I know it would be boring if the "final" sapient species was too humanoid. But the Paleotecton is not only not humanoid, but it also not the prettiest, cutest and not even the coolest species we saw in this planet. The arms near the face is actually quite nightmarish! But I guess they would think the same thing about me, if they were real. The second thing is how culturally similar to us they already are. Biblaridion acknowledges this isn't the only way their culture could have developed, but maybe just like our anthropocentric biases makes us expect for sapient species to be more humanoid, Biblaridion's own anthropocentric biases made him speculate a culture much like human culture. Of course this is a very early stage of cultural development and most of their behavior in this episode is explained based on biology and not psychology. But the fact their biology is leading them to conflicts, racism and a overall violent behavior much like our own, makes me sad. I guess deep down I was hoping this series to show us a planet where evolution selected the biological and behavioral features I think are the best humans have to offer, but I'm not at all disappointed or surprised it didn't. Definetly one of the best things I ever watched on CZcams, excited for what comes next.

    a couple ideas for your next series, you have figured out a way to design there auditory production structures, the ones on the side of the head, if you figure out the range of sounds it produces, then you can create a phonetic alphabet, and create a basic proto-language, you could then evolve it to create 5 distinct languages, and assign them to 5 different cultures across the world, from there, you can use those 5 cultures in all future episodes to explore different aspects of civilization, and use it to distinguish out how different cultures would view different aspects of culture, such as architecture, religion, agriculture, etc.

  • @target0330
    @target0330 Před 3 dny

    do female neotectons not make art? that seems so bleak :( and, like, if neotecton art evolved from mating displays made by males only, and neotecton intelligence developed in part because of the art, is there an implication that females are less intelligent? :/ how much dimorphism is there between individuals typified as belonging to different sexes? if there is significant dimorphism, i'm not saying it would be unrealistic or wrong. neotectons are not humans. BUT, their society as described brings up uncomfortable human social/cultural questions and baggage. i can easily imagine someone making a misogynist, incel-power-fantasy sort of story where the ~intellectual, artistic males~ revolt and overthrow the ~evil, stupid, only-good-for-breeding females~. obviously if neotectons were real they wouldn't have the same gender prejudices as humans, and their stories wouldn't have the same implications. but, humans are the ones interacting with this story, not neotectons, so i think we need to be careful about the choices we make in telling their stories and keep our real world in mind.

    • @laurentiuvladutmanea3622
      @laurentiuvladutmanea3622 Před dnem

      There are some things that should be noted on the other hand. First, as Biblaridion mentioned, Neotectons are organisms with sequencial hermaphroditism, so it is possible that many females keep some parts of their old male personality. For how it goes, this might depend on the culture. Some where art is considered unwomanly, and immature, and something that women should grow beyond, to some where art is something women are expected to do, and were art criticism is considered a respectable job for a female neotecton. Secondly, the female neotecton did evolved in a genus of highly social organisms, and did evolved from organisms were critiquing the art and buildings of their mates and rulling over the pack and planning hunts was something females did. And in a clade were males commonly became female as they reached a new stage of their life. Making it unlikely for there to be significant dimorphism between the sexes.
