- In which I come across as overly stern for some reason, spend too much time complaining about Alien Biospheres, and say "like I said" a lot.

The fact that Alien Biosphere is more focused on the learning is what make it so awesome, for both the learning and the speculative zoology designs part
Exactly, it's so rare to see a world being built, and explaining every step of the way makes it all the more fascinating, despite how broad it is.
Im learning so much about biology from this series!
Yeah, bib stans like Random Evo times and ElectricCadet take it too seriously
I swear, the more i know about the refugium the more curious i get.
It truly says a lot about the quality of your world and presentation that you got us all so interested about the world without even telling us "the main part". Or maybe the mystery is a part of it?

Yes, there really wasn't any good content on the subject before his work.
I've been watching Alien Biospheres since pretty much the beginning (episode 2 or 3 or something), and am only just now learning that it's inspired a whole spec evo genre on CZcams. Any recommendations?

One small comment about your "monotone voice": I love it. Really, dude, I like your accent and the clear manner in which you speak. I'm pretty sure other people feel the same, so don't stress over it.
I like it too. It’s clear and distinctive. I know immediately who I’m listening to. I have a monotone voice too, so I understand stressing over sounding like Ben Stein from the Clear Eyes commercials.
I agree. It sounds so nice and clear, and I honestly wouldn’t call it monotone at all. However it’s pretty much universal for people to hate the way their own voice sounds on a recording, so I’m not surprised he feels this way
I agree too, I really like how he talks

I think we could totally found a "people who love biology, languages and history" community. I have never ever met anyone who's like me in that way who lives in a good 2000 km radius from here a live and suddenly there's this incredibly brilliant British guy and this awesome comment section...
EDIT: I'm very proud to be in your video, even if it's just for a second haha
There's a mysterious "Them" in The Refugium, who cannot be elaborated further on without spoilers?
Even if you aren't going to spoil anything, colour me highly interested - because that is something I do not see often.
Maybe they have something to do with those symbols that keep appearing across the Refugium videos (and even this one)
@w ne Or a precursor civilization
Watchers in the dark...
Guardians from the Nightlands...
Black sentinels...
Random thought: what if they keep the Refugium in a time loop? I have absolutely no evidence for this but it would explain why the fate of this world is so mysterious, as the end doesn't exist
That's definitely one interesting possibility.
The Refugium just keeps sounding cooler and cooler.
He might even make this into a book series after he finishes fleshing out the worldbuliding and conlangs, and after he writes an actual story. Like Tolkien did with Lord Of The Rings.
@@eybaza6018 I imagine it will end up as something like that, however I don’t think we can expect that any time in the next few years.
Fun fact: "omnipredicativity" is an ambiguous cover term for two completely different types of languages: Salish-style languages where all lexical roots are lexically specified as syntactic predicates, and Nahuatl / Samoan-style languages, where any lexical part of speech can be placed in a predicative position despite not being lexically specified for that use.
Hey um sorry but can I get this in simpler English? I’m having difficulty understanding some of these words. Can you define Nahuatl and Salish please?
@@UWU-x Nahuatl = the native language of the Aztec empire
Salish = a family of native American languages spoken in the Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia.
In Salish languages, pretty much everything is a verb. I.e., you don't have a word for "dog", you have a word for "to be a dog", and various ways of nominalizing it if you don't want it to be a verb. Thus, omnipredicative = everything is a verb.
In Nahuatl, Samoan, Khoe-khoe, and various other languages from a variety of families, you can use just about anything as if it were a verb, even it basically isn't. So, you'll have a word for "dog" which acts a lot like an English noun, but if you want to you can go ahead and use it like "he dogs" or in some cases even "he the dogs" without doing anything special to derive a verb from it. Thus, omnipredicative = anything can be used in place of a verb.
They are both "omnipredicative", but there are very different kinds of systems, at completely opposite ends of the spectrum of part of speech systems.
Congratulations 🎉 you deserved and deserve much more, you can't imagine how much you've helped us. Without you I wouldn't have discovered the passion I have for conlanging and worlbuilding!

Question: How did you get so handsome? :) Also 49:45 , Trust me when I say that, the reason why I love watching your videos is because they are of such high quality. Sure, having more would be nice. But I would have very little problem waiting 4-5 months for an episode, as long as it as good as always. I don`t want you to TIRE yourself from this project, and for your memories of making it to turn sour. Take your time, ignore the impatient haters, and be yourself. God gave your own life to live the way YOU want it, not the way others do.
Yes, bib do be looking kinda HOT
When you remake "How to make a conlang" I would love to see more on branshing and clauses, as it's what I struggle the most with.
"I think I need to make a video about... them" O_o
When you mentioned having an overarching grand story in the background, one thing immediately popped into my mind - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (also known as "DS9"). That series executed this kind of narrative structure brilliantly. The current state of the overarching storyline affects every single episode and occasionally an episode will focus on progressing it, but generally the episodes revolve around smaller stories and/or personal events which occur to and among the characters with the main grand story serving as background. I have no idea if Star Trek is even up your alley, but if you haven't already I can not recommend watching this series strongly enough if you're interested in seeing how this style of storytelling can be done well and effectively.
Babylon 5 did overarching plots very well, and was planned as a single 5-year arc from the very beginning.
You certainly got me interested in seeing more Refugium content. I'm looking forward to that
Bib can you make a video about a more drastic metamorphosis? I just wanna know how that evolve.
37:32 the cheekiness 🤣 that's a side of Biblaridion I wish we'd see more of
For many CZcamsrs, they often have some other types of videos they produce, (Conlang stuff for Biblaridion) and they have fun making those, however the fans like one thing better which is often annoying for said CZcamsr. Some "fans" go as far as to go to those other videos and say something along the lines of this "dO mORe (Insert type of content which is less enjoyable/just harder to make). Example if you watch HermitCraft you'll see how much fun the Hermits had with Third Life because it was a break even if Third Life wasn't quite as popular. Even if you enjoy both types of content, don't let your viewers push you around this goes for anyone who reads this, Biblaridion, anyone else, all of you. Okay I'm done now my fingers are starting to hurt.
Ironic, the last episode of ABS is one of my favorites, I love those Tiran penguins.
Everything about Alien Biospheres is perfect. Thank you Biblaridion!
Dont worry.
Its your spec evo project.
And I still love it.
Hey man, funnily enough the last Biospheres video struck me as having a uniquely *relaxed* feel; I felt like you allowed the concepts you chose to cover to “breathe”, and to deeply explore them, see where they’d naturally wind and wend, etc. I adore your vids but felt I should chime in and say that FAR more so, I enjoy the spirit of the person driving them. It makes my skin crawl to see comments on your vids like “When is the deep sea video slated”; you don’t owe anyone anything, and what you’re producing naturally, without cowing you your (admittedly burgeoning) following, is among the best edu-tainment of all time. ALL TIME, seriously!
congrats on 100k subs
Do an overhaul planet Tira lifeforms tier list pls???
I cannot believe you have no formal linguistics training! Your conlang descriptions are so linguistically detailed that although I have many years of "passive" exposure to linguistics I sometimes have trouble following your presentations due to the level of complexity involved. That can only mean that you have a very sharp and penetrating mind and are able to absorb and retain vast amounts of knowledge. I have always admired and enjoyed your CZcams work. I do now even more.
Damn, 43 seconds ago… haven’t been this early since the earth formed.
I too have "can't stand to listen to recordings of my own voice" disease, and I know that insecurity is always its own beast, but I actually find your more even vocal tone to be immensely soothing/pleasant to listen to! Up until about episode 8 of alien biospheres, whenever a new one dropped I would actually re-watch the entire series and just let myself feel like I was totally immersed in the world, and your voice is a big reason why I find that pleasant enough to do for H O U R S. TL;DR, don't be so hard on yourself, because sometimes the things you don't like about yourself, other people can get a lot of joy out of, even if it's not the """right""" way to Do Vlogging, or whatever.
Alien Biosphere and your channel in general is one of the best thing to come out of CZcams.
Don't diss Top 10 Languages. That video was one of the first introductions I had of linguistics in actual languages and the sort of wonderful strangeness that makes languages so incredible. I rewatch it every so often and I still get excited about the "sheer badassery that is Navajo"
OMG my questions are included! You made my day

Alien Biospheres is such a fun series. I have always been interested in speculative xenobiology since I was in college back in the late 90s, and the series has given me the impetus to go back to some of my own alien designs and revisit them and see how they may be improved with these additional concepts.
I'm really excited to see what you make about the refugium. It's such an interesting world and I wanna know where the story goes!
It's slowly becoming Lord Of The Rings 2.0
I found this channel about 3 weeks ago and I’ve gotta say, this and Artifexian are getting me back into conlanging
I love the way that Bill McGrath does his diegetic worldbuilding (or WorldBilling, as Edgar calls it), and I'm glad that I'm not alone in appreciating that approach.
There's another symbol at 28:59 related to the refugium and _"them"_ for anyone wondering.
I can relate with the audio process. I run a spec-evo project of my own and I found it really difficult to talk over each video once I started doing so.
Oh hey there shark boi
I totally relate to what you've said around 04:55! I have a bunch of interest, and for any given moment I'm almost predominantly interested in one of them, then it would just spontaneously switch to another after a period of time, from about a few days to a few weeks.
yeah, that's probably adhd mate
you made me obsessed with ecology from the moment i started watching the series, i love your videos so much,
oh and btw, everytime i wake up i run to my computer to work on linguistics and stuff like that including worldbuilding and ecology!
im glad you addressed the educational aspect of biology. i never would have thought leaves and trunks evolved symbiotically
Honestly, Alien Biospheres has inspired me to make my own speculative evolution project. I have now become a person who sees work as fun.
Omg yes the house centipeds THAT ! Exactly that gosh
i remember the 10th subscriber qna, its amazing how fast your channel| has grown
It’s so funny to me how you made your “how to make a conlang” video series basically on a whim, because that’s where I started with my first true conlangs that I’d ever made 😂
honestly, you have a really nice voice. It makes it really easy to listen to you and understand you
I'm not too sure about if it was your intention but one thing I really like about the Refugium is how it seems to be an exploration of what a confined flat and young earth world would really feel like and what the implication would be for humanity. There is this idea often put forth by religions that we need to be in the dead center of time and space to be special and not feel insignificant and lost. But the Refugium feels more terrifying to me than the real universe despite being a "god's fish tank" set, so it seems, for a finite duration.
yer voice sounds cool man, its half the reason i watch your videos
its relaxing
the monotone isnt a problem ahah, i dont mind it at all
I'm excited to find out about "Them"
Do you think you could do an alternative future of the English language conlanging project?
To me it seems like it would be similar to both alien biospheres and your conlang case study series,
and I’d personally be super interested in a series like that.
You are amazing bro, keep doing what you do❤️
I wish I knew there was a Q&A, I would have asked about conlang fonts and if you planned to make a video on fonts for logographies, syllabaries, all that jazz, maybe even syllabaries with consonant endings slapped on as ligatures?
I actually was inspired to make my own series out of frustration as to how surface level everything in alien biospheres is do to I being a tutorial
I at least find that vaguely interesting as to what he said about multiple questions there
I am extremely excited for more information on the Refugium.
After seeing your scariest species, I agree tbh. Thankfully, there are no fast-moving, uncomfortably long-limbed and dysfunctional looking creatures in alien biospheres, it would make no sense to make clades you yourself are scared of. **cough** **cough** _trichopods_ **cough** **cough**
Oddly enough, I used to be extremely unsettled by raptors. Something about their stare always intimidated me.

21:43 imagine if you get to learn Proto-World language and it turns out to be just Basque
I was considering asking about the possibility of Alien Biospheres going into the languages spoken (or produced with the local equivalent of speech) by some of that world's inhabitants, should they ever reach a human-like level of society - maybe even designing a fully alien conlang. However, it went against that rule. And since you mention the project having a definite endpoint, I'm guessing this would be off the cards anyway as it would draw out the project for considerably longer than the time you planned for it, not to mention it being a considerable deviation from the series' original format.
If you were however to create a fully alien conlang (either as a sequel of sorts to Alien Biospheres or something in its own distinct world) combined with alien culture building, then I could definitely see myself watching and loving an entire series about it, and I don't think I'd be the only one. Not many people have the skillset to combine linguistics with speculative evolution to the depth that such a project would require, and also have the skill of making CZcams videos.
Only do it if you want to do it, of course, though it sounds from the way you describe it like Alien Biospheres would have never got started without the encouragement from your audience. So consider this the encouragement you'd need in order to justify a project like this to yourself. Because like I said in another thread, to learn about the society and languages that these alien creatures build would be the next best thing to actual first contact.
I think it would be cool to see a bee-like organism that stores it’s “honey” in triangles or squares rather than hexagons
annoyingly, the hexes pop up from circles being compressed by their neighbors (bees deposit wax by walking backwards in a circle as thata the easiest way for a tiny brain to program behaviour like that).
not saying squares or triangles are impossible, itll just take some serious finnagling to figure out how they would arise

I guess my question on alien hands and how similar would they have to be to not inhibit scientifical research and space exploration is just a topic that will naturally come up later in alien biospheres.
Love this topic. Would really love to see more people exploring manipulative appendages that don’t resemble human hands but with extra fingers.
When Biblaridion mentioned "them", my mind immediately went "aliens"
History channel moment.
not sure how much Chinese you've done, but as I've gotten further into learning it, I've found that tone is essential for how I've come to remember new words i.e. yesterday I learned the word 忽略 (hu1lüe4 to neglect) and earlier today I forgot how to say it, but remembered that it's tone was 1+4. Furthermore, I just feel like it has a really nice interplay with the other parts of the language. Tone distinctions allow for Mandarin's small sound inventory + (C)V(N) phonotactics + single syllable morphemes which in turn really jive with the character system.
I also happen to like the phonosthetics of mandarin, love listening to Chinese rock music, and have spent five years with this language, so I that's my bias.
tldr I think your mandarin slander is unjust - when I make a conlang, tone will absolutely play a key role
All hail fan art!!!!
That's a whole lot of work! Stay sane.

If you used omnipredicativity with the triconsonental root system, it would probably be destinct by having both in the same package.
Can you ever make a video about the deepest parts of the oceans? It would be really cool to see how life Can develop even under the hardest evolutionary pressures, and would be good teaching

I've always felt the same way about the triconsonantal root system. It's already so perfect, I wouldn't know how to add an interesting twist to it in a conlang. I don't want to be like 'hey here's my cool language, it's just like Arabic but with different sounds'

Thanks Biblaridion alien biospheres has kickstarted me thinking on projects to do in my free time that involve creating alien biospheres.
Me too, i'm gonna explore how life can evolve on a habitable moon of a gas giant, and life on a planet that's slighty too close outside of the habitable zone. Iv'e only starterd doing barebone concepts a week ago, so it's still in progress. But yeah, alien biospheres inspired me to do that.
