Capturing Rainy Landscapes: Nikon Z8 and Nikon 20mm F1.8 Lens | 1 Lens 1 Location | ASMR
I'm out in the field today capturing rainy landscapes with the Nikon Z8 and Nikon 20mm f1.8 lens. Bit of a challenge using 1 lens in 1 location, but the 20mm worked a treat.

For something so big, they're just so gentle. This was shot April 2023 on Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia. Nikon Z9 Landscape Photography | Photographing The First Sunrise of 2024

Today I'm out in the field using the Nikon Z9 for some landscape photography and capturing the first sunrise of 2024. Every year I aim to photograph the first sunrise of a new year. It’s less about taking a photo and more about setting the tone for the rest of the year. If I can do this, why can’t I do it for the rest of the year? It was a bit of a struggle to get up for this one. I fought thro...

Here is my 2023 year in review. A very busy 12 months, with lots of travel and amazing experiences. I started off the year photographing the total solar eclipse in Western Australia, then capped it off aurora watching in Tasmania. Along the way there were also bugs n birds and other critters. Unfortunately there was a real lack of time lapses this year, which I aim to fix in 2024. No time for t...

Have you used adapted Canon EF zoom lenses on the OM1? If so how do they perform (with or without a TC)? I have a LUMIX G9 and 70-200mm f2.8L IS and 1.4TC. Obviously the G9 isn’t fantastic for AF and I only have a speed booster adapter, not a plain electronic / smart adapter. I’m interested to know how the PDAF MFT cameras perform with adapted lenses.
Superb Results
@@Mr09260 thank you!
I have the 20mm f1.8 S and Z8 for Milky Way
@@Mr09260 that’s why I originally got it, but it’s great for landscape photography too
No they're not. Says who?
I Approve
Great video boss straightforward explanation. But I already have far to many shots to wade through at 9 fps. I also recon I could and do get these shots with a prehistoric 850. But my images will of course be raw and at least of equal quality (some say better). The method I use is two eyes open. So the shot is set up and I then go to live view silent mode. Then I use a trigger release and a good old saying from my army days "watch and shoot" Yes on occasions I miss the first shot but hey we have to have something to come back for next time. If I set it to mode 2 I can get 30 fps jpeg! I guess the advantage of the Z9 and 8 is the focusing?
Cheers! Advantage of the Z8/9 is the focus and no blackout of the viewfinder when shooting at high speeds. But in the end it’s whatever works and lets you get the shot, even if it’s with “vintage” tech!
@@Blinsaff You are absolutely spot on, and sooner or later I will take the plunge and get the Z9 just for the focus system.
Gorgeous footage!
Thank you!
I finally got mine last week after a very long wait. Can't wait to use it with my Z8. Nice video!
Oh nice! I’ve read the wait list has been insane. Enjoy! Thanks for watching
Awesome, beautiful, funny, special.......they have loads of personality and you can easily make friends with them by offering water and worms.
Thanks for watching 🙂 spoiling them like that and they’ll never leave! haha
I like the review. I just ordered a 180-600. should be here in a couple days. What is your tripod set up? I am looking for something like that were a can just sit and snap shots. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! Tripod I use is a Benro mach 3 carbon fibre and the gimbal head is the Benro GH5C carbon fibre. Also use a generic $10 camping chair lol.. Congrats on the 180-600!
I have a CANON 60D with an EFS 18-200 mm lens ! I’m in Ethiopia and I need your help to tell me if I can be able to use the adaptor for my gear ! Thanks in advance
Yes! You will need a 67mm reverse adapter ring for EF-Mount (canon cameras). You can google “FotodioX 67mm Reverse Mount Macro Adapter Ring for Canon EF-Mount” to give you an idea of what’s out there. Good luck!
@@Blinsaff thanks so much
@@brookzera218 no problem
Good vid, thanks. When using in-camera focus bracketing/stacking with flash, should I be using electronic or manual shutter? How does the flash keep up with the incremental bracketing shots? Many thanks in advance for your valued response.
Can I used this adapter nikon d3400?
Yes you can use the reverse lens adapter, just not the FTZ adapter
They merely find a better way of life.
Not strictly a filter, rather a reverse lens adaptor.
Very clear explanation of how to set this up.
I have this lens and most of the time it's blurry in most spots. I have gotten some good portrait shots though. Most stuff I see online is shilling this lens, probably because they're paid for it.
I have had that issue on occasion. Try switching off VR and see how it goes. Doesn’t happen that often, but enough to annoy
One man from the state of Melbourne had a answer for these birds. He tried too eat it.
And there’s the urban myth of a health inspector finding beaks in the dumpster behind a popular restaurant.. that’s good eat’n
Why use F/11.... ?.... too much diffraction. You should try it as a telescope for Astrophotography... thanks for share.
I am using Nikon Z6 with this lens to shoot a flying bee like this, but I have a hard time to get the focus right. It seems the auto focus is pretty slow, maybe because nikon z6?
Might be easier to try it with manual focus, as it gives you a bit more control when shooting a smaller subject
I wanted the lens dimentions Length and Diameter, on Nikons website the say 85mm D x 140mm L are your measurements correct. I need these for a Macro Diffuser I'm ordering and they need to be spot on. Cheers
Canon offers in Raw mode . Why Nikon can’t offer.
I stumbled across your tutorials on macro. My shots have been nothing short of poor... some of the tips you've given me have elevated my images instantly. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Awesome! Glad to have helped 🙂
Good job dude - I watched the whole thing and then subscribed to your channel
Thanks man, appreciate it!
Whoever hates the ibis is a bogan
Well done, thank you for making this one! New sub here !!!
"Drive mode" continuous for quick multiple shots for stacking, or to just capture a properly focuse image among the others?
Why did I get a commercial for a Chic-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich before this video?
lmao 😆
This is the very best video I have come across with the presenter explaining and understanding the 60mm Olympus lens.
Thanks very much, glad to help
Wow is this a terrible macro lens. I'm taking better photos with my 150-600 sigma and my 50mm prime. Collosal waste of money with that setup if that's the best it's delivering. Time to try a sigma.
Hmm not sure I agree, but I’m glad your setup is working for you. That 150-600 is an absolutely amazing lens. One of the greats. I find the Laowa lenses are better for macro but the 105 here is great for video
Have you seen the reviews and spectacular photos this lense makes! I do a photographie course mate.
All my pics with this lens get blur 😣
Maybe turn off your VR/stabilisation. I have had this issue occasionally
But it is so expensive.. I stick to F 105 + FTZ adaptor
I bought same pack today
Thanks
I came here cuz of a song about birds
I'm thinking about buying this lens to use with my Z6II. But is this diffuser and flash always necessary to obtain good results?
No not all. That setup is because I’m shooting at f/11. This lens is really versatile and takes beautiful images at f/2.8 as well
Love the video! We have a nest on our front loan with 4 adorable fluffy chicks and two very controlling parents 😂 We've been reading a lot about masked lapwing now that we're forced to be flatmates! I'll show this video to my kids, they will love it!
Nice! Would be awesome to be able to watch them all grow up. Just don't get too close! 😆
It is so awesome ❤
Thx for the review. Hope i have this lens someday so that i could shoot birds and animals. Do u think its possible using this lens with handhold?
Yes, I do it often. Easy to do
Do you custom set your flash when using, or will TTL work?
I use custom flash settings, just to have complete control. I’m sure TTL would work well too though
When plovers catch you going near the nest during their swooping season you know you’re fucked
It’s true. Its the stuff of nightmares
Thanks for your review. It is a convenient lens but alas I sold mine because I found it too soft outside the DX zone, especially in the corners for landscape at the long end. My AF-P 70-300E f4.5-5.6 VR is sharper across the frame and goes to 300mm. Need to use the FTZ adapter unfortunately but it's a great travel and landscape lens if you need to go light and get to 200 or 300mm..
Excellent, concise real life explanation of using this amazing pre capture software. Thanks for uploading.
Great review, thank you. I have this lens too and considering the price to what you get it's tremendous value. I love it too.
Good review thanks. yes I have this lens and it's really sharp right across the frame and renders beautiful colours and image quality. I actually thought the price wasn't too bad for what you get. Weather-sealing, auto-focus specially adapted for macro with limit switch, great VR and optical excellence. I love this lens.
Excellent video. Thanks. Why ISO 200 and not the lowest the camera can handle .. like ISO64 on the Z8?
Thank you, thanks for watching. ISO 200 seems to be the sweet spot with aperture/shutter speed for most situations.
The bird said: *"AH"*
Great video! Wish that you had given some advice on settings...

@@Blinsaff, thank you! I've been watching CZcams and reading. My head is spinning. It's not like we get a practice run at it. I live in Maine and have until Monday 4/8/24 to study and try to remember it all. Hopefully, instinct will kick in. If not, it'll still be an amazing thing to see. Thanks for the link!!!
@@lindacunningham3005 no worries! It’s an amazing experience, very surreal. Good luck!! 😎
I've never used flash doing macro, how powerful of a flash do you recommend with a difusser like that. Thanks
Any camera flash will do. I use a cheap Godox TT600 to give you an idea
Z8 got insect tracking like Sony A93?
No dedicated insect tracking, but it’s not too bad using animal detect. Bees are recognised and track pretty well
Was this done with Version 2 of Z8? Btw, what the JGP file size of pre capture? Thanks
This was done with the 1.01 firmware (shot in December last year). Average jpg size for the pre capture shots is around 2.5 MB
