Leadership Defined: Creating a sustainable organization through sustainable leadership
What are sustainable organizations?
At Primeast we think of organizations that are looking to be present a hundred years from now, like the ability to sustain an organization beyond the leaders that created it.
We always think of sustainability as environmental, but it's bigger than that.
It's about making sure that we are taking care of our employees, and that we are committed to their success in their lives.
And also making sure that it's not just about the shareholders making their profits, but that all of the people that are behind the company are making their fair share.
And finally, making sure that we're here tomorrow, that we're doing the right thing given the environmental challenges or the business challenges of today.
Companies, in order to compete in the future, will need to create really wonderful cultures. That's what we think sustainable corporations are.

In this video, Beth explains what sustainable organizations are, and how can organizations prepare to compete in the future.

We have so many different generations in the workforce today. So many new technologies, new applications, and new ways of leveraging technology. But, are we, as leaders, having enough conversations about how to leverage technology? At Primeast, we think there's a lot more than just leaving people with it. So we're constantly talking to leaders about setting norms around technology. We coach lea...

We love our next generation of leaders. And there is a lot of backlash that they receive, but we actually think they're part of what's calling this new work environment forward. And I think they also know that they need the support of older generations of people in the workforce that bring real value to them. So our work is to get the generations all talking to each other and valuing what they ...

One of the most important things that work on with all of our clients is supporting a more generative culture. Because, if companies want to retain their people and create opportunities for them in the future, they will need to focus on creating an employee culture that works both for the business, and for the people. And that's not always easy because we don't always get called into those comp...

At Primeast, we believe there is power in leaders modeling. People pick up just by observing a leader model something. When leaders take vulnerable moments to tell their own growth stories, the mistakes that they've made, and the way they've overcome things, and share that with their people, it can shift everything for their team. Because that's modeling something, not just talking about how "y...

When you have really effective leaders, there are a number of things that happen. People grow their own skills, and so they're more productive, more fulfilled, and rewarded on the job. They are intrinsically rewarded because they are given opportunities. So, it's very important to have strong leaders who have good leadership and people skills. The higher you go up in an organization as a leader...

At Primeast, we believe in people's capacity to make change. We think it's about tapping into that motivation and that desire. Sometimes we see something in somebody that they may not see in themselves, and then when we project that back to them, perhaps they can awaken to that possibility. That is why we believe that everybody has the capacity to lead if they want to. We don't fix people. Peop...

In order to understand the way we work today, we need to go back to what is happening in business. Once we grew out of the Industrial Revolution -people on a line producing things- and moved into the age of information, we also moved away from a more command and control leadership style. And now the idea is that we are all working wherever we are working -from home, on our mobile devices- and w...

What are the fundamental skills for 21st-century leaders? At Primeast, we believe there are a number of skills leaders need to navigate the world we live and work in today: 1. Misunderstandings can occur more than once in a single conversation. Simply because we often assume one thing has the same meaning for us and others, and that’s not remotely true. Omitting information just based on assumptions is a common mistake and the main cause for fallout in teams. Everything we do happens in the context of communication. When and how you communicate matters as much as wha...

2020 forever changed the way we communicate. It changed the way we host events, meetings, and gatherings. We drastically reduced the office time and created a new space in our homes to only focus on work. And it worked, for the most part. There was a struggle we were not ready for: Lack of virtual engagement. And how could we? This might be the first time we had to switch and adapt quickly with...

Why is this in the artstyle of those self help videos, where the narrator is some soycuck who is now reformed and has confidence and performs sexual intercourse with women thrice daily, and he's trying to teach you his ways by buying his book?

How about giving feedback to thin-skinned employees who bristle at any hint that they aren't already perfection embodied? I pointed out to a direct care worker that the time she took to prepare the client to go into the nail salon and follow the manicurist's instructions could be counted as pre-vocational training. The worker said, "The office said that's things like when she goes to the office and shreds papers." I said, "It is, but it's also things you've been doing with her like making sure she follows rules and instructions and helping her transition from one activity to the other. Those are actually important pre-vocational skills and it's a shame you're not getting credit for what you're doing with her." The worker CALLED THE OFFICE TO COMPLAIN! "Give yourself credit for all that you do" isn't exactly something I'd count as criticism!

Context is _absolutely_ important. Let me give you guys an example. What would you all think of a 26-year-old man who still lives (and has always lived) at home with his mom, and who had graduated high school at age 20? You don't have context or a backstory.

Todays corporate culture is all about antagonizing those who have developed higher intuition in a field. Chane isn't usually necessary, but used as a weapon against those with an ideology in line with empirical intuition. But if skills and protocols are constantly changed, those with strengths towards the development of intuition are filtered out of the system, in favor of rationalistic types, who have long indulged in what amounts to little more than glorified short term memory skills. Hopefully, in the future, corporations can and should be conservative when it comes to change.
