No, you need to select items in just those staves for it to affect playback. Or make a new layout for just those instruments in Setup mode (not as quick as the filters though).

I think rather that the colour option we'd need a 'highlight' option that highlights the background of some items. At the moment I think people use the Dorico iPad option with the apple pencil (or in ForScore) or do it manually on the printout. I don' know of a 'published' standard for this. You can suggest it on the Dorico.com/forum

I think you have some non-standard issues here. Pressing enter turns on the caret by default (unless another item is selected), it doesn't move to the next bar or enter other notes. Hovering the mouse doesn't do anything unless you click and dragging notes is normally possible with a mouse.

@@dorico Thanks for your reply. I have installed a brand new copy of Dorico on a brand new W11 pc. I'm using the free version, not the Pro version. I find it an absolute nightmare. Whoever programmed this has never played an instrument. It's also beyond my understanding why the output volume on both Dorico and Cubase is so extremely low. You have to crank up your speakers to 70% or so to hear the notes, and if you close the program and forget to turn the volume down you can suffer permanent hearing loss when watching a CZcams video or anything else that's played at a normal volume. What really puzzles me is that the volume issue has been around for as long as Cubase exists, everyone keeps complaining about it, yet Steinberg never did anything to fix it. How can you not fix such an obvious bug, not even after 20 years?

​@@jacquesmertens3369 it can depend on various things including the dynamics and how many instruments. If you are writing for a full orchestra at ff then that would be loud, but the default playback for just a few instruments at mf would be quieter. You can also set your own default output level in the Dorico Preferences if you wish.

@@dorico Thanks for the hint. I have followed your advice, but it still sounds very very quiet. In all Cubase forums I read the same comments from users who can't understand why the Cubase/Dorico volume is so extremely low, much lower than any other DAW.

As I said in my other comment I think you have some non-standard things happening on your system. I suggest you get in touch with support or put a video of what's happening on the FB group or Dorico.com/forum

There's a system requirements section on www.steinberg.net/dorico/se/ but basically you'll need macOS Ventura or later, a mid 2013 or later i5 and minimum 4GB (8GB recommended) with around 6GB of free hard drive space.

@@said1949 I think your latest OS is 10.13 so you'd have to go back to Dorico 3.5, but the elicenser licensing system for v3.5 is being discontinued next year. If you can run OS 10.14 you could run Dorico 4.

@@JanKleinSwormink it depends which possibilities you mean. You can use a MIDI keyboard for step time or live (e.g. with a metronome) recording as well as using it to trigger shortcuts and if you have other knobs and faders they can record MIDI CC options too

Yes there will be sections that aren't for everybody, but that's ok

Feel free to suggest other options. I've not tried that one myself, just know others that have and there were many more options in this session too.

@@dorico we've been slowly moving over to SoundFlow for our Dorico, Cubase, Wavelab and even PT setup for some stems prep stuff. Not an easy transition since we have 1000s of macros but endless possibilities with incredible support.

You probably can use your DrumKat with Dorico or GrooveAgent, especially if the DrumKat pads are sending 'standard kit' MIDI notes already.

The German and English sessions are quite out of sync as the English ones started much earlier so the content has always been different. Also for sessions like this one not all the same content/manuals e.g. for ConsoleTools are available in other languages yet.

You can set a shortcut for Edit > Remove Rests already, and that then sets the starts/ends voice properties. Otherwise, yes you could record a macro for that and have ConsoleTools trigger your macro.

The simplest way to make these properties available through ConsoleTools would be to create tools directly from Dorico command strings. Just paste the following four lines into your user tool setup file; when ConsoleTools is initialised the next time, the tools will be part of your collection. addTool("Start voice", [[UI.InvokePropertyChangeValue?Type=kNoteOrRestStartsVoice&Value=null: ]]) addTool("End voice immediately", [[UI.InvokePropertyChangeValue?Type=kNoteOrRestEndsVoice&Value=string: "kEndImmediately"]]) addTool("End voice after barline", [[UI.InvokePropertyChangeValue?Type=kNoteOrRestEndsVoice&Value=string: "kEndAfterBarline"]]) addTool("Disable 'End voice' property", [[UI.InvokePropertyEnableSwitch?Type=kNoteOrRestEndsVoice&Value=false]]) Mind you, there are more sophisticated solutions possible, and with not much effort. Appendix C in the full documentation can give you an idea of how to improve on this.
