I Have tried most of the big Fish and Chip Shops in Whitby but had to try one that I have missed and its been in business since 1937 that's 87 years trading but hardly gets a mention , is it as good as the others ?

Wow! what a beautiful meal and all for the fantastic price of £20. Good luck to the pub and kitchen Cassop they deserve to be booked up solid, lovely staff and surroundings to. You sure enjoyed that meal, great review keep them coming all the best Kevin.

Hiya Kevin, it's true. Nowt so funny as folks. A Pencil Museum😂😂 only we British 🏴 A handy, helpful little video ( what was the cake like??) The river is crystal clear, but for me. Settle down for a bit on the bank, and the sound of the water. Bang, away with breeze. When next up in Darlington you should go try the Japanese place called T.A.O in the town centre. The ramen 🍜 is great! Last year I went to the one in NYC 🗽 when visiting, both great 👍🏽 love ur vids mate 😊

BUT IS IT LOCALLY CAUGHT COD? ON MY LAST VISIT TO WHITBY I ASKED AND WAS TOLD “NO, THE FISH WAS FROM ICELAND AND ARRIVED FROZEN”. I HOPE YOUR ONE WAS BOUGHT BY A LOCAL TRAWLER. MOST USE FROZEN ICELANDIC CAUGHT FISH THESE DAYS. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
Hi Roy and thanks for your comment , i cannot honestly say where it came from but next time i do a vlog i will remember to ask although when i was in Tenerife they did tell me they used Cod from Norwegian waters .
Same for me, I asked at my local fish and chip shop if cod was caught local and even if it was a line caught cod. They started to swear at me and said there's no cod in the river seven.
Great scenic video, food looks amazing, tartare sauce looked very green! I've been a pro chef and college lecturer since the 60's and have made most batters, beer batter, salt and vinegar batter, tempura, cornflour, corn meal etc etc, and that batter looks the business, crisp, hot ,and that big flakey cod/ haddock?,....amazing. Worked at a restaurant in Glos, and we used 'gurnard' fillets, deep fried with a cider, rice flour and cornflour batter,......the result,....wonderful.

That needed loading onto the plate add the veg and splatter the gravy over the lot add loads of salt & pepper and commence the demolition 😂 Wasn’t that impressed with the look of veg or chips tbh although you enjoyed the chips Would like to have seen a full Pie in all its glory

Speaking as an American... WTF if a cow pie?
Hi John thanks for your comments, I’m guessing it’s a take on a comic character called Desperate Dan ( it should come up on google ) and he used to eat enormous pies with horns sticking out and it was called cow pie , I’m pretty sure the pie I had wasn’t cow meat but standard beef steak .
It's just a beef stew in pastry. That's actually an Ashet pie because of the time it's cooked in.
I love savory foods that are in pie form...so comforting

That looked pretty damned good mate. There's a certain irony going on though with the sign outside mentioning plumbago and then you being served the cow pie in an enamel dish , early enamel cookware actually contained lead.

Hello Dan, ooooops sorry Kevin. A bloomin belting pie🥧. A massive pie for one, tadge short for two. Have a wee problem with meat pies. 😮I simply love 'em with chips.Salt'n'vinegar. Maybe squeeze of tomato ketchup on the side. I also think that mashed potatoes and vegetables, lashing of meaty gravy is a real meal deal 🥕🥔🫛🥦. Now have said this to many a vloger,and I know it's a North/South debate. Should gravy go on fish'n'chips /just chips /and don't get me started on curry sauce 😡😠🤬. It looked a proper pie, and your expression said it all. My thoughts, bit mean with the chips 😋(greedy me) Now, good mix of vegetables, we say down South, Swede & not turnips ( wife and I still argue about that). Having an audience whilst eating is a right pain in the bum 🙄. But you carried it off very well. Again my choice, would have served it on the plate. Each to their own. Hi... quite regular in keswick but not been there ..live carlisle.. Box to tick me thinks 🤔.....watched your whitby didn't no the endeavour was a chippie...ps although co Durham born bred last time I was there was for poppy walk...and again not been in any cafes in city good job well done for showing these places...👏👏👏👏👌👌

@thedurhamvlogger hi at the end of bassenthwaite Lake just after dual road going west" bassenthwaite Station cafe and restaurant" its actually a full train used as a prop in johnny depps 'murder on the orient express' film...carriges are restaurant and old station is cafe....booking required...if you already know of it apologies....but I've never seen any food utubers..do a visit ..atb ...

Only just found your channel. Loving your down to earth food reviews. Looked really nice. Not really a pie though as only pastry on top, which should have been double egg washed. Nice to see some proper fresh veg. Pity the chips were skin on imho. Bet you itvwas tasty though.

Wonderful stuff. When I was serving in the RAF in the 1970s, spam fritters were frequently on the menu in the airman's mess and they were damned good.
Hi and thanks for your comments and also for your service, I think spam fritters have a bad press and some people won’t even try them but was interesting to hear they served them up regularly for you in the airman’s mess , to date I have only found two fish and chip shops that cook them perfectly some overcook them but the ones in the video were perfect , Thanks for watching.
If you’d ignored the skin on chips that you didn’t like, there would have been plenty of room for that beautiful piece of fish, great review, new sub. 👍
