This should be the thought process of all those who can't figure out or decide the GOAT debate... Michael Jordan is the GOAT for these reasons... he has become the standard that everyone that has been compared to him has been chasing, has aspired to, and wants to be in the conversation for. When you eclipse the expectations and become the standard that all others are compared to there is no one above you or close to you. Michael Jordan changed the way the game was and is played. His influence was and is on a global level. The way he played the game layed the foundation for ALL the comparisons that came after him. There's no talk of Magic or Bird or Kareem or Dr J or any other player that came before MJ. I'm not denouncing any of those players and because Michael Jordan has gone way beyond those names in the recognition of how he played the game nothing compares to him.

Different teams historically would match up differently. The 96 Bulls are a bad matchup for the 17 Warriors. The "Small Ball" line up of MJ, Pip, Harper, Rodman, and Kukoc, is BETTER than the Small ball line up the 17 Warriors used to win. Plus even in today's era, the Bulls had some sharpshooters who could take advantage of the 3, coming off the bench. Kukoc's game was built for today's rules with less contact, and more skill. Plus the Bulls were great defensively, among other reasons, because they jumped passing lanes. Free flowing ball movement by the Warriors would make the Bulls defense even more deadly. Just as a match-up the Warriors would lose. Then there is Jordan. Enough said. That being said, there are some other historically great teams the 17 Warriors would destroy. And historically great teams the 96 Bulls would struggle against. It's all about match ups.
