Saw Gervin go for over 50 against the Lakers and he never took the same shot or made the same move twice!
That’s amazing really? Didn’t do the same shot 2 incredible🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️🏀
@nickwalker2043 Yeah man I remember busting my azz to watch The Iceman when I could. He was a genius with that basketball on that court.... Geez no one could guard him!
Hell of a compliment💪🏽💯
He gave the Lakers fits...but could never beat them Lakers when it counts!
The elegance, the ability to float and hang. The sharp shooter . He was Poetry. Thanks for this one, BTM
That finger roll tho!
Gervin was a badass for sure
When MJ speaks you know Gervin was underrated
What about the players MJ chose when he was in the front office.
@@DIAHAINE what does that have to do with Gervin? MJ was showing his respect
@DIAHAINE your point is what Einstein?
@@tommydavidwalker2445 Figure it out.
One of the most underrated players ever!
He is only underrated when talking about the top-50 all-time. He’s under-ranked.
@@DeCurtaRicanGervin is top 50 so what are you saying
George Gervin underrated are you crazy
BS, he is not underrated, what planet are you from?
There was Never anyone like the Great Ice Man, George Gervin. No One.
Exactly Amen!!🔥
Word
Stop. How many times did he score over 50 pts?
Man, he was smooth, and deadly from deep
ONE of a kind, Ice🏀
George Gervin definitely a top 10 player
George Iceman Gervin greatest Spurs ever my favorite player
I am 58 yrs old. I grew up watching the best era in the history of the NBA. This man was a huge part of it, MR. GEORGE"THE ICEMAN"GERVIN!!!❤
At times, "Ice" was UNSTOPPABLE!!
The finger rolls of Gervin and Drexler were insane
Very underrated! Along with Alex English!
I grew up 30 miles south of San Antonio and had the chance to watch George and Alex play against each other in the original Spurs arena in the early 80s. Two of the silkiest offensive players ever on the court. They looked like superheroes in person.
And Adrian Dantley
ALEX ENGLISH PURE SHOOTER…SAW HIM IN DENVER POP 40 POINTS…NO PROBLEM…SOOOO SMOOTH AND EFFICIENT!!DR.BRYANT LANE…
He was so much fun to watch…. One of the GOATS…. Ice Man!!!! He was deadly cold!!!
Best nickname ever!
Lucky to be a San Antonio native and graced with the Ice Man’s presence.
As we used to say them finger rolls were just absolutely nasty.
I had the opportunity to watch him in person when he was in High School. They’re all from the neighborhood and we know them all. We support them.
One of the greatest scoring days in basketball history was David Thompson versus George Gervin for the NBA scoring title
Kids have no concept of how unique and effortlessly smooth the Iceman was. One of a kind, never to be duplicated.
I had that bada*s ICEMAN poster on my wall back in '82. The one with him palming the two ice basketballs. Before MJ, Gervin was the Man!
Had it also, in '80 or '81, it was on wall in my closet. And it was STILL there until she passed in 2019!!
Thanks for this clip. One of the greats that’s often overlooked under appreciated and not spoken of enough
A different breed of man .
Very elegant and lethal scorer.
One of the players I truly miss. We would do try to do the finger roll like him in the school yard all the time..
Jerry West said he was one of the few players he'd pay to see. Julius Erving said Ice told him how much he appreciated watching him play. Dr J said "let me tell you I'm just as big a fan of him."
Growing up in San Antonio in the 80s, the Iceman was IT! My hero, watching him play is like art, jazz, a thing of beauty. Coolest, smoothest man in basketball.
People talk about how the league was hanging on by a thread before Magic and Larry; well....The Iceman (along with Dr J) was that thread. Absolute LEGEND! 🙌🏻
Pete Maravich and David Thompson, too.
Greatness flowed from him
I SAW HIM LIVE..MY US ARMY DAYS…EARLY 70 S…SAN ANTONIO TEXAS…AWESOME SMOOTH SILKY SMOOTH PLAYING….I WAS 19…NOW 68 STILL REMEMBER THIS TIME…
Dr. J keeps it smooth no matter what age. That guy is amazing!
The Iceman had a feel for the game and touch that was truly special. Great video!
I vividly recall George Gervin when he played for the Virginia Squires. But he was unstoppable when he was in his prime with San Antonio. My two favorite teams at that time were the Lakers and Washington Bullets. He destroyed them! I thought, is this guy ever gonna miss? Even when he missed, he barely missed! Love me some Ice Man Gervin! What a tremendous player!
the original ICE man
Kudos to you for finding our Spurs ABA guy. So much fun to watch here in the 70s. Ask him and Robert Parrish what they think of Michael Jordan.
One of the many names we called out growing up playing basketball .
Im 57 and from Detroit where Gervin is from as well. My jr high math teacher was an old coach of Ice. 1 summer he took the whole class to see Ice play in a closed gym game against some pros and streetball legends of Detroit. Mannnn Ice put on a show! Usually in games like this the small guards show out. But Ice is 6'7 and put on a million moves. Dunks, sweet ass reverse layups, pump fake shots, finger rolls from anywhere, turn around jumpers etc...
Philly respects hoopers from the D. They cut different.
That’s dope I got family in Detroit but they never seen him play ‼️
High praise from Jerry West
Great point. One of the top 3-5 most knowledgeable BB minds in history.
He was incredible. He even is even a member of the X Men and flew with Maverick in Top Gun.
Legend.
Thanks SD.
I remember when Ice and David Thompson had a race for the scoring title Thompson scored like 70 points and later that night Ice scored like 65 to win the title /
Man the nba used to be so much better and more entertaining
I got to see George Gervin in Atlanta vs the Hawks! Probably one of the smoothest players I’ve seen on the courts! The finger roll is & was legendary!
No one has done it better!
"Ice" Nike poster was on my wall as a youth. He was an amazing scorer and so smooth. I remember George girvin and David Thompson going to the last game for the scoring title and they both lit it up. That is a long gone day for the league, unfortunately.
Growing up watching late night basketball I have to favorite players, Dr. J. and the Iceman. I spent so many nights watching the late games. Great memories.
My dad and uncle took their younger brother my younger brother and me to see the Virginia Squires regularly. The Iceman was special!
Ice, Dr. J, and Larry Kenon was all that back then with the Virgina Squires. Many people didn't know that these 3 ABA Greats played on the same team.
..... he didn't even have his name on the back of his jersey..... it just said ICE.........
Kenon never played for Virginia Squires. He played with the N.Y.Nets (w/Dr. J) and the S.A. Spurs (w/Gervin).
@@citizenscapital2458 YOUR RIGHT, l MET CHARLIE SCOTT.
I saw Gervin play against the Mavs in the 1980s. There is only one Iceman!
I saw him play against Dr J and the New York Nets back in 73. That was quite the show.
Wow! I never saw his highlights. Looked him up 👀👀 Led league in scoring 4 years with nice shooting % 🎉🎉
Magic said Iceman was the best pickup basketball player who ever lived
An odd qualifier
@@KB8Killa Magic was famous for playing pick up basketball games at UCLA when he was with the Lakers. He did that when he was growing up too

Love the iceman.
He 🥶
Show Bob Love!! Mic'2024 😊!!
Yes Indeed . Was Bless to see him play.
Hearing my brother and brother in law ( Bubbles Hawkins R.I.P) get mentioned is an indescribable feeling!!!
Minus the finger roll, Victor Wembanyama's game reminds you of George Gervin.
George Gervin was DEFINITELY a once-in-a-lifetime, one-of-a-kind player!!! I’m a diehard Boston Celtics fan and the first poster I’d get if they still made it wouldn’t be of Bob Cousy or Bill Russell or John Havlicek or Dave Cowens or Larry Bird or Kevin McHale or Robert Parish. It would be of the “Iceman” sitting all in white on that block of ice dribbling those two white basketball. You wanna talk cool? You don’t ge no cooler than “Ice!"
School is in session. Time to learn more about another Legend from the past.
Glad to see he's still alive. They were talking about him in the past tense.
Truthfully I never wattched George Geriving but I heard on his talents and skill through NBA talk show. He was so smooth moving and shooting very different from another superstars, his fingers roll was amazing
One of the Greatest every he was really unreal 🏀🙏🏾
4 time scoring champ
My man, Travis Grant of Kentucky State University, hung 69 on Ice in college. He inducted Travis into the College Basketball HOF and told the story.
Am glad I had the pleasure to enjoy his career as a kid and teenager 🏀🏀
Saw him play 1978 or 79. He was huge and had an incredible wing span. One of the greatest
This was badass I really liked this video, thanks!
Excellent video! Thanks for reminding us about the great George "Iceman" Gervin.
The best poster EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Mr. David. I saw George Gervin play in Rome Italy against Banco di Roma in the early 80's. It was the end of his career but it was still great to see him. He was still very imaginative. All the other players clearly revered him. The Roman crowds seemed pleased and excited. I grew up on the streets of New York and I remember starting to shoot the finger roll, like the big kids and young men who played in tournaments. I played in The Rucker Tournament three summers with three different teams.
Not early 80s, it was late 80s
Great video!❤
One of the few mythical magical players in NBA history. It's almost like it never really happened. His style was way too effortless to be real.
Before his time for sure🙏
WOW! Most likely, he is one of Michael Jordan's inspiration! I just learned about him now. OMG, he is really good!
Airmen basic at Lackland AFB San Antonio Texas 1978 .we had the opportunity to see the spurs play the Knicks. My 2 favorites at the time .Earl the pearl Monroe & George the iceman Gervin . Also flying out got his autograph & Coach Doug Moe's. Good times .
The Iceman is better than anybody playing now he was unbelievable
Thank you The Ice Man one of the most overlooked players that played. A long with Jamal Wilkes both overlooked and the least talked about. Finally no whose the goat conversation. The acknowledgement of greatness and also Hall of Famers.
Went to a bar in the San Antonio airport called Gervins. Many folks had no idea who he was even with his posters all over. The lady who runs it saw I ‘knew so she came over and told me she got him to sign 2 basketballs for auction. The first one sold for $25. She took the other off the auction.
Will I was watching artists at their profession along with his great nickname yes the Iceman George Gervin, was a great man himself. On the basketball court the Iceman was in his element and it was a beautiful thing to watch right on to the Iceman,
This man is like DEADSHOT bro. Sean....keep this heat coming. Beautiful peace on the Iceman bro...content stay 🔥 my gus🤌🏾👌🏾🤙🏾
Thanks for doing GG!!! The Bulls were my lifelong team (from the outer Chicago area) and the Spurs were my "West" team beginning in 1990 when The Admiral was drafted. GG is one of those 'forgotten' players. Shawn (sp), inlight of Brunson's new NYN playoff game scoring record, maybe we can get a Bernard King episode, or maybe Oscar Robertson (he was a BAAAD Man) or Dr. J, another 'forgotten' juggernaut. For those who never saw Dr. J, he was smooth, cool, and strong/showtime on the court, like 'Coffee Black' from 'Semi-Pro', but too cool to be goofy. Keep up the great work!
Super video! What a player! I just subscribed. Your channel is fun!
The Ice Man...
Finally, my Uncle used to say ( The Ice Man was the best player in the NBA.) He diffently one of the best shooters in NBA history.
“This may go…it goes” classic
Saw him torch Phoenix for 44 at San Antonio. Absolute spectacle.
I had that poster too as a kid!
Gervin played with MJ his rookie year with Chicago
I still say he's the best mid-range scorer in NBA history. The guy was like a boneless sea creature...imagine an octopus playing basketball. So smooth. I mean, the finger roll goes without saying, but he also had a way of splitting defenders at the free throw line, like an eel sliding between two rocks for the score. Unreal and unique.
the way thomas say "anybody in the game.." is like saying "anybody in the game. not even mj..". hahahahah
I was named after this man!, my first nickname was baby ice!, had the poster, of the Iceman sitting on giant ice block's, on my wall!, nobody could stop the Iceman!, the coldest finger rolls ever!!!
My all time greatest player.. he's the goat for real
Saw the iceman and David Thompson in San Antonio oh what a night
I was fortunate enough to have seen him from the cheap seats to sitting front and center floor at hemisphere. So many times it would be him against the entire other team. Absolute master.
Cold ass name fr
Never got to see the Iceman play. Pretty touch with the finger roll.
I got to be his ball boy in Tulsa when he was training to make his comeback. Unfortunately he got injured. He was training with Otis Birdsong, Henry Bibby, and Wes Matthews senior. Really cool experience as a kid.
His game was cold....that's why he was called the Ice Man
Smooth
Gervin would bang with anybody. James worthy of the Lakers was always tryin' to get physical in the low post with him, so Iceman just put 3-pointers in his eyes, which drew worthy to the outside, Gervin would catch the ball, gather himself up acting like he was gonna take a 3, he'd head fake worthy into leaping out the building and calmly drive in for two. He hemmed worth up like that 4 times in a row. Worthy got so frustrated he was no good for the rest of the quarter.
🔥🔥🔥
Stevie Smith is the only NBA player I ever met face to face when he played for the Hawks I was about 13. The Hawks use to train at this gym called SportsLife right outside Atlanta
