    So I tried this, BUT I used all essential oils. Lemongrass, eucalyptus, tea tree, cinnamon, peppermint, and citronella. I put 4oz of EACH in 5 gallons, did about 4.5 gal of water, and 16 oz vinegar, and 8 oz of soap and olive oil. And when I tell you this stuff is STRONG I ain't lying. It BURNED my skin!!! Essential oils I have learned are very potent. So I have a 2 gal pump sprayer, I filled it up to the 2 gal mark with clean water, and put 16oz of the mixture in it. And I sprayed it on my leg to see if it burned after a while, and it doesn't now. This mixture I have made is going to last FOREVER. If you do a DIY fly spray test it on yourself FIRST. Because if your spray is too potent and burns your skin, what do you think it'll do to your horse? My horse was extremely itchy when I used my trainers spray, she says it never bothers her horses or on her skin, and she uses way way less oils and only mixes it in her sprayer which are 1-2 gals. BUT it still could have been affecting him. Please be careful and test your product before you douse your animals in this stuff!!!

    Hi, I'm back with another question 🤣 We grow Aloe Vera in our garden, do you think it's alright if I just mixed it in the blender (without the spikes of course)? We use it as a healing cream for our horses when they're injured and since it's 100% natural it should work too right? I also can't find mineral oil anywhere 😩 Is it part of the actual fly repellent part or just so the mixture sticks together more because in that case I could replace it with coconut oil too? Thanks again, this recipe is so helpful! :)

    I've got the same bale basket. I don't see how your hitch can possibly work once you start baling. When the basket is full you have a bale sitting right on top of the hitch and its compressed and won[t want to budge. We stick a pin in from the BOTTOM of the hitch and then put a stay pin on top. To unhitch you pull the stay or keeper pin and pull the main pin down and out. One or maybe two bales fall out the chute but you just toss them on the bottom rack on the basket. I don't see how your method can work at all. Good luck, bale baskets are a great help for the small farmer.

    • @yesterdayfarm5273
      @yesterdayfarm5273 Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, you are 100% correct; and I should really do a video of this. The way this works: I use a scrap steel post from a broken road sign (you could use a 2x4 also) and use it as leverage to lift the tongue of the bale basket. Works perfectly, and takes just a couple of seconds; then, as you say, one or two bales drop down on the ground, which can just be placed on the little triangle area in the front of the bale basket. Maybe I need to make another video to show the whole process....this really was a fantastic addition to the two bale baskets I have: once you hook up a full bale basket with a hitch like shown in @3:12 in this video, it's hard to think how cumbersome this was with a pin. Many thanks for your good comment and insight.
