Codes are a PITA... It's not rocket science to install this. As a home owner I do whatever I want. I own several homes and rent them out, when I buy another. I don't have to deal with this code enforcement and hassle of permits.

My high school electrical class head was on the NEC committee. He wrote (helped) the code book. “Work shall be done in a neat and workman like manner” practically from day 1 for three years. It drives me crazy when some tradesman leaves a mess behind, especially if it’s an electrician.

@@jeffwinkelman6574 you measured it? you do know the osha spec right, for long term noise exposure right...I've worked in many, many many places over my 46 years of servicing lab equipment, in production facility. Over the years they have improved the requirements to keep high noise levels from damaging hearing, with this constant exposure like this place, and the lack of guards etc. this place looks not very well set up in so many things, just from causal observation here. I've been in some of the most nasty steel mills, to some of the best steel mills, and everything in between in all kinds of industry, pharma, mfg., chemical hazards, electrical hazards, physical personal injury hazards. this place looks bad. The guys cutting stuff, no eye protection, is so obviously not up to spec.

I enjoy watching your content. If I was not close to retirement I would recommend going into some kind of Trade like becoming an Electrician. I really think just my take on it is to first when one graduates is to get some form of Trade then decide if you want to go further than working in a trade. I have great respect for those in the trades. If I had to do it again I would become a licensed Electrician then gone into Telecom. I find both of these interesting, but I am about 4 years then I retire from the IT Industry, so this is just something I would recommend is all as a path for anyone going into and what an option is for kids these days. I just think it gives one more options. I just think having a trad and some kind of higher education is a good option as well. I will be 64 in about 4 years. I find the information very valuable though I do some of my electrical in the way that I do the running of the lines, and will connect things up. I will once it is done have someone who is licensed come and verify things as I do not trust everything I have done.

@@plandl1 One thing I can say is that if you're a budding electrician, learn words and meanings and NEVER think that words have equivalence until you really check it out. Physical != Mechanical != Electrical.. Just be careful. My engineering responsibilities force me to do that...else I'd be considered a fool and would engineer things that don't make sense.

Hope they preserve those push button switches. The example there looks like it needs the plate tightened or a spacer behind the mounting tab. I have some of those switches that are almost 100 years old and they work fine. The other stuff is telephone lightening arrestors. Probably still good, not really a hazard. I've preserved a number of fuse panels, fixtures, switches, etc. over the years from rewiring guts. My electrician buddy hands the stuff over in exchange for a few cold ones.

Thanks for your time. I have a few questions that will help me determine my tub placement. Is there a reference for the type of wire to be used in conduit from the Hot Tub to the GFCI breaker? If I have to go, 75 ft to the house from the GFCI breaker can I also install a quick disconnect between the GFCI and the house main panel? If the conduit from the house to the GFCI breaker is under a deck, can I attach the conduit to the underside of the deck?

    1. Hole through stud is way too close to the edge without a nail plate. 2. Using an unapproved method for entering the box (drilled in the side). 3. Double tapped Neutral. 4. Used both screws on neutral and hot side. (To my knowledge I think you are only allowed to do this if you break the tab and it is then used for switching applications. I’m not sure if that is true but I want to say I’ve been told this.) 5.the spacers are permitted as long as you put a coffin to keep the energized parts from touching anything combustible. 6. NM cable is cut outside of the box.
