Synopsis:
Anybody catch the wardrobe change?!
Autel gave us another EV Charger, this time for Prime Day, so we thought we’d show y’all how to route this one through conduit instead of through the building structure. This can simplify some of the installation process when considering what protection levels certain types of wire are rated for. If you’re looking a simple, reliable charger, and want to know what goes into such an installation, we hope this video is helpful to you.

Love working with totes but what you need is a push cart-table you don't have to work on the floor once you go cart you don't want to go back
You probably missed it from where you were standing but when you put the red wire into the Autel, it looks like you didn't get all the wires in, some of them bent down as you pushed it in. You will see it at 30:40 in the video.
Nice install Joel ... Thx
I recently hardwired an Emporia with similar circuit board screw connectors at the charger. Similar to the Autel connectors, the torque value was low compared to a standard breaker lug. The 14-50P pigtail had ferrule crimped ends so I ferrule crimp (square profile) and soldered the crimp.
Your red into the charging terminal had split.... I guess you corrected it off camera....
Hi, love your video why have to wire neutrall when we don't needed?
Another excellent video Joel! I believe the wire in the underground conduit is required to be THWN. With the PVC hot blanket, why do you use pre-form 90's? Use expandable plugs and you won't kink it.
Ah very good! The wire is multi-rated THWN-2 as well! I typically use pre-made elbows and 22's and what not, but wanted to mix it up for the video. The plugs are a great idea! I don't currently have any. Thanks for the constructive input!
You're pretty cool. I wish you can come over here but I live in Illinois.
I don't know where you live, but too 4 probably.
Nice work nice video..
You love it.
Kindly can you help ? Where I can find an adaptor from US plug to EU plug? .
nice!
You changed your torque screwdriver?
I've heard mixed reports on nolox. It's not required anymore and I've heard it can cause resistance because it is an insulator. But all the older electricians use it always because it used to be required. But all aluminum conductors since 1980ish have antiox in the metal.
Anti ox in the metal?
It's now an alloy that solves all of the old oxidation issues.
as with anything code related, your ahj has the final say
I have to ask and be honest. Do you edit the part where you look up the codes or do you actually have that whole code book memorized. Lol you always quoting the code book down to the numbers.
note, that was not a Sawzall reciprocating saw, it is a Dewalt reciprocating saw. 3:42.
Kleenex, Channellocks, Google, Band-Aid, Chap Stick, Escalator, Dumpster, etc. Props to Milwaukee for creating the first tool of its kind such that the industry recognizes its product name as the tool name.
@@ElectricProAcademy What are you trying to say? If everyone says it wrong you should to? If everyone jumped off a skyscraper would you do it to?
Well the jump would be much better cushioned by all those who jumped before...
@@ElectricProAcademy the results would be the same.
30:40 to 30:50 The Red wire is pissed it got bent just to let you know
No GFCI protection since it’s an exterior outlet less than 50 amps? Just curious on your take. Another great video and explanation! Love the channel!
Lots of the forums have been saying that the EV charger has to be GFCI. Is it built in?
Forum posts often don't tell the whole story. Per the 2023 NEC, all dedicated EV charging receptacles need to be GFCI. This is a hard-wired EV charger so the code doesn't require GFCI, however, some manufacturers require their EV charger to be GFCI so that would be the only exception.
At 23:30, should't there be a conduit Bell on the end that sits in the ground? Why did it get cut off?
You left a loop in the green but not the black and the red
Shorting out L2 and the Ground wire.. thats what ferruls are for.. so that does not happen.
Joel, hope your son doesn’t try cutting off his siblings finger with that pvc cutter he’s playing with😝
40 above 80 below, did the code change?
What a spaghetti mess of conduit.
So, Joel, what is stopping your neighbors or vagrants from stealing your electricity and possibly destroying your set up? I mean all those lights? The cord and charger right outside with more lights?? In my part of the world that seems to invite dishonesty? Of course, I am much older, and more scarred.... so apologies to you.
With the Autel charger there are a few ways to stop people stealing electricity - app control, scheduled charging and rfid being the main ones. As for destroying the set up, I dunno, the same laws that stop people breaking your windows or spray painting your house?
Why did you run the white wire? Totally unnecessary.
You didn’t tie the breakers together. Code violator. Such a poor example. Just thank goodness you didn’t let a little kid put a plastic bag over their head. Oh. Right.
That is a double pole breaker already tied together
@@dd6892 he flipped one on and then the other. Not together.
So, your question and incorrect judgment make you "the" poor example.
However, you are trying. Keep trying, and JMHO, the plastic bag bothered me too, but he has 4 kids there watching each other alongside him.
@@jspafford No, the breakers are tied. He first hard reset them and then turned them to on. They are clearly tied.
