Bryce Dallas Howard is beautiful and it's the only reason why I remember this movie, seeing her face on the DVD case at retail
Drawing godzilla in the Kingdom hall where you werent suppose to draw....my dide are we the same person?
Sorry but I hated this movie! I had such high expectations from watching the previous trilogy. This did NOT hold up... I nearly walked out. :(
You know how kids in the 80s in 90s talked about “Temple of Doom.” As “The Bad One!” That was “Dead Man’s Chest” for me.
GPT-4o is HER. Scary world we've entered
One of my favorite action movies ever. The prison scene I thought was a great homage to Raid Redemption 2 as well.
What's it like being part of the "hate Hayden" crowd? How well did that age?
the movie is so aesthetically pleasing
Owen should answer, "I am a male leabian"-Eddie izzard
More to Indian 'The Raid' than Indian 'John Wick' for me..
🥱 I thought the message/themes of the movie were pretty clear and that i was being beaten over the head with them while i watched a bare bones plot unfold. Beautifully filmed, but it would have been nice to see an investing narrative that actually had real supernatural events play out while getting the same message across.
You know, despite how pointless this video is, you gotta respect him for keeping the comments open even though they're all dragging him lmao
I see the three characters as each can't live without the other two.
People talk about cinema being creatively bankrupt nowadays... This movie is a great representation that we can get a film so personal to the filmmaker but yet can also be so unique and compelling in its execution
Maybe this is the point. Sociopaths think it is about a pissing competition between sociopaths. At the next level, "You want to wipe out all evolutionary possibilities at this level so you are in control of the next level?" "L" Losers... Another take, sociopaths think that they prove they own this biosphere and humanity's consciousness and are the "winners" or there is "nothing"?
Hey Chris! In the future, Jane Schoenbrun doesn’t go by “they,” she goes by “she.” :)
Oh boy. This looks like something that would hit me hard. "The Pink Opaque" is an album by The Cocteau Twins from 1985, which makes me curious as to the implications for we 80s teens and our perception of the story. I'm intrigued, and a little afraid. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you for putting into words what I could not after watching this movie.
Chris, You can add the 3 members of our household to the list of 'Signs" fans. We watch films from the entire history of cinema. We also don't look at any critical analysis until AFTER we've watched a film for ourselves and decide what we think of it. I enjoy your insights into movies. i never thought of the aliens as a rag tag group of slightly disorganized pirates, but it's an amusing thought. Thanks again, Jim Mexico
How is the CGI when it comes to the apes' faces? Seemed like they mastered everything in War, but the trailer for this looks like the CGI quality went backwards.
What a fantastic voice Chris Stuckmann has. A perfect presence and clarity for podcasting. Also... hearing these two passionate gentlemen talking about films and hearing about master Flanagan's origins is inspiring!
My mum wanted to watch Once Upon A Time In America, but we didnt have Disney+ and she didnt know when she would watch it and didnt want to buy a sub. She wanted to watch it whenever she wanted and numerous times, not hope it stayed online forever. I tracked a dvd down for her birthday and she was SO happy. She and I are big movie and cinema fans, and love our home physical collections. Also, we dont want to rely on the internet quality delivery.
I didn't like it 6/10 narrative and pacing. 10/10 vfx, sound, acting. Man I messed up, I went in there thinking we were gunna follow up with Maurice and rocket. Not get a full out series reboot for another trilogy. When I made peace with that, I still didn't connect with the narrative much. Meh... Wasn't a fan. Recommend wait for prime drop.
They billed this as the best one yet 😂😂 I left the cinema feeling conned. I expect proximus and noah to have a battle or at least a scuffle and nothing. Don't make anymore please.
chris!! watch "the iron claw" i promise you itll hit you harder than mike tyson
Look I really liked this show people take this franchise way too seriously. It’s literally people having laser sword battles. So once that happens all reality is lost so why is your line when palatine comes back or when leia hides under the coat it’s literally called fucking STAR WARS if you want something grounded in realism watch how it’s made
I'm not homophobe but this formulaic transgender crap in movies should calm down a bit...
I got the whole thing and its symbolism on the first try.
Physical media all the way.. but I am wondering who the hell still buys dvds.. I bought my last dvd 20 years ago.
The movie had a few good scenes but it was a 4 out of 10
watched it yesterday, really enjoyed it.
I think the problem with modern movies is that they can make anything now, but they have it down to such a formula, and conduct surveys to say, "You don't need a plot, just jump scares, or just loud action sequences..." "Audiences are dumb, they don't need a story." That's why the movies look great, but they're just so cookie cutter anymore. I actually love the Annabelle series, but it's sad that they fall into a cliche of film. I think audiences can handle more, they just dumb it down for everyone, and it really lowers the bar. (Warner Bros. was worried the Matrix was too much to think about for audiences. But films like American Psycho force you to watch them again, because they're meticulously set up. Even though it was a flop at the box office, it's still an incredible film, and I wish there were more like it today)
Chris used to be my favorite movie reviewer. Now that he wont actually criticize movies hes just a hollywood shill. How can you trust someones opinion if there is no critical analysis. Just close the channel dude, youre a filmaker now this is beneath you isnt it?
Try watching the movie INFESTED (2023) Chris.
You should go back to being a film critic it's more important to have an honest opinion about a movie and let someone decide if it's worth seeing. What's going to happen to you when someone goes to criticize one of your movies, it's not an attack it's an option.
I miss these lol
How is no one talking about the fact that 300 years after most humans died, there is a girl wearing make-up, wearing normal clothes, acting like everything happened yesterday? She knew the vault like she saw it many times before.
identity how in this guy watching the tv glow as from the poster become as a purple in this movie how they staring at the tv glow
Man, this sucks. I just don't understand why studios do this with trailers.
Congrats, Chris! This is terrific. I hope you'll get good feedback and am looking forward to seeing Shelby Oaks at somepoint in the future :)
Dude, you can’t send all the Jedi because the Sith would go into hiding again, they said this in the council meeting!
Coldest take of this review is that the vfx look dated. They look dated because we didn’t know the direction cinema was going to go in during the MCU era
I've fallen asleep with every Hunger Games film. They're so boring to me. They're not movies I'd wanna watch again. The story is just bad. It's not exciting or entertaining.
Well if you like being stupid I get not caring about the science.
Just saw it and I loved it! Darkly beautiful and compelling! Definitely didn’t expect it to be as good as this! I am so impressed!
First movie I’ve ever walked out of the theater for. It was boring, the characters were stale, this wasn’t for me.
Horrible sound track for this movie
Psychological horror for sure. There was a sense of dread, and a claustrophobia that permeated the movie. The temporal structure was interesting as it was linear, but there were scenes missing (as shown by particular flashbacks), and so it was sort of disorienting. Further, towards the end of the movie, Maddy refers to them being at camp, and it sort of anchored the scene when Owen was at a campfire, but I'm not sure if that even happened, or if this was a way to relate them to the TV show. During the 80s there was a view of TV that argued it was a drug, and that was the vibe you could sense. The depth of their interest in the show wasn't healthy. The show invites the viewer to question: what if the paranormal is real. And then, the notion of reality becomes unstable during the movie. And it seems to hint that maybe there is something occult occurring. There wasn't anything paranormal in the movie per se, but you could sense that "weird stuff" was happening. Or was it? In any case, Maddy's interpretation of the TV show became a bit...literal. And it seems like she goes off the deep end, questioning the what's real, or normal, which can relate to the ideas of gender identity as discussed as gender norms. (As an aside, she sort of takes on the role of Morpheus in the Matrix, asking Owen to believe her view of the world. This isn't a dig at the movie, and I'm not sure if Schoenbrun intended it, but the trans reading of the Matrix connects with this movie. Unlike Neo, Owen doesn't seem to break free) The one thing that kind sort of bothered me is how coy many of the reviews are about Maddy's disappearance. The sequence of events clearly indicate what led up to it. But we're unsure what happened to her. Put another way, one can surmise why she disappeared, but we don't know what happened to her (until later). I was in college during the 90s, so I was worried if the movie was even for someone like me. At any rate, visually it was so good, and this is what piqued my interest. Just found out this movie was produced by Emma Stone, which is interesting.
I’m so here for the “So Weird…” love!
In truth the racist guys on bikes would be BLM and they would be gunning down white people
