Chris Stuckmann reviews the trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener. Directed by Todd Phillips.
Folie a Duex is a psychiatric condition where two individuals become psychotic around each other but if they are separate they actually improve mentally. Tells you a lot about the relationship dynamic in this film

@@finaltouchstudio_ Yea, I'm tired of that gray "filter" where many movies are so bland. Grading is really important to make a movie attractive, I noticed in the american cinema history grading has its time flow.
When I saw Gaga cast as Harley, I thought to myself, "That is damn perfect casting." So much so that such a long time has passed now, that I have forgotten whether she was my dream castings even before that or not. Underrated actress. I think she is like a Scarjo type, but can go even darker and more insane in her performances. Can play the broken characters perfectly.
Might be an acquired taste. I liked a couple of her songs from the 2000s, and loved her songs in "A Star Is Born", along with her performance in it also. Thought she was really good in American Horror story too, though, I didn't love the episode. I think Joker 2 will be a turning point for her in the public eye, as an actress.
I don't think so personally. Sounds like some sort of hate campaign against her or female characters. I haven't seen it, so I can't confirm. The thing about the Joker is that he has garnered this sigma male audience that usually has problems with women, so it's difficult to trust any negative rumours spread about her and her character. It's a classic that people think the woman will overpower the man in the movie, and end up being the lead because "feminism". I think it's going to be an equal story.
Was it though? I cringed so hard. The trailer would be so much better if they just cut out all the "drawing a smile with lipstick" shots. This movie could easily veer into "two cringey emo teenagers who think they are edgy"
That last shot where Arthur is smiling through Harley’s lipstick through the mirror at the end of the trailer is superb, I really hope this movie gets nominated for Best Cinematography
I really wish they kept Harley being his psychiatrist rather than a fellow inmate. I feel like Harley's fall into madness, from a psychiatrist with a morbid fascination for her psychotic patient to a flat out psychopath in her own right, would have been so much more interesting in the context of this dark and brutal take on the villainous duo.
“It’s totally its own original vision” It also looks a lot like New York, New York: a 1970s musical that blended the grit of then-contemporary New Hollywood with 1950s artifice… about a volatile relationship between Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli… that was a Martin Scorsese movie… that was his follow-up to Taxi Driver. Movie looks pretty cool!
I hope the musical parts will be like Joker and Harleys own thing, like how these two freaking psychos experience love. While they burn the whole world down in utterly chaos. But from their point of view, they are just in love and have these nice moments.. setting shit on fire 🔥❤️😂
Thats exactly what it is. The trailers shows it with them all dressed up in fancy clothes dancing on a rooftop under the moonlight and then quickly changing to reality with them in their normal clothes dancing in the middle of the street with a building on fire behind them
Given that folie a deux essentially means shared madness, it might not just be his delusion, but also hers too. Which, seems fitting, wouldn't you say?

Bjork played a blind woman who kills a cop to save her son in Dancer in the Dark. It was a musical but it was mostly a movie with musical numbers. Anytime something hard was happening around her, she would retreat into her head and deal with her emotions with a musical number. One of her songs in that musical was nominated for an Oscar, which was when she wore the iconic swan dress that’s actually pretty cool but she was, of course, ridiculed for it back then.

Star Wars took the sci-fi/serial style of Flash Gordon and some inspiration from great directors like Kurosawa to create something audiences had not yet seen. Joker took the gritty, psycho-drama cynicism of 70s cinema and inspiration from Scorsese to create Joker. For Empire Strikes Back, something even more different had to be done, something darker with more at stake, and while there’s plenty of Harley Quinn/Joker material out there, here’s to hoping that Todd Phillips can make his Empire Strikes Back. I don't think there was a need for a sequel. The 1st one was so well done and what I took away after reading all the reviews from the 1st one, is that Phoenix Joker is the person who inspired the actual Joker. Especially because Batman is still only a kid. Hence why I don't think there was a need for a sequel..... But anyway I'll still watch it
As someone who's never seen taxi driver or the other movie that the first Joker was referencing, and as someone who generally likes comic book movies but doesn't have a super long history with them, I loved the first Joker movie. It broke my heart and I thought it had a lot of really important things to say. I know people get upset because in the comics he's supposed to be evil and chaotic for no reason, with no tragedy about him, but this was a much more interesting character to me and much more engaging story - I don't think you can tell much of a story from that comic book Joker's perspective, because that character never changes or grows. There's no arc there. It'd be just watching a very evil guy do insane evil things for two hours - and that's not really a story, thats the set up for a gore fest horror movie. Whatever the criticism levelled at it, i thought the first movie was an excellent tragedy. The outcome is inevitable from the start, but you're still hoping something will change. I cared about Arthur and that made it so much more awful when he still becomes someone who can only be called a villain. I loved that, even though it was emotionally devastating lol. I feel sure this second one will do likewise, so I'm very on board!
I've seen it speculated that the musical numbers will be used in the manner of "Moulin Rouge". I'm getting some serious "Pennies From Heaven" (Steve Martin) vibes myself.

This movie is gonna be awesome. We get to see how crazy these two will be both physical and mentally and I can’t wait
Got a feeling that this movie is actually about Harley and everything is in her mind instead of Arthur's.
I'm personally hyped for this!
It’s been unfortunately a while since I’ve visited your channel Chris but I’m very curious what happened with your movie and where I can view it
Chris, where is Shelby Oaks?
I've seen it speculated that the musical numbers will be used in the manner of "Moulin Rouge". I'm getting some serious "Pennies From Heaven" (Steve Martin) vibes myself.
I can't wait to see it
Loved the first one. Loved this trailer.
Brendan Gleeson though! F**king yes!
Good thoughts Chris
trailer looks like a piece of art.
